“What an enjoyable 2 weeks it was!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2009

Everybody has different experiences, but overall, Tripadvisor doesn't lie. I think when we booked, Flamingo Beach was 14th out of 43 in Playa Blanca - as I write now, it is in 2nd place (1st is a 5* that costs about 5x as much!). Flamingo Beach deserves it as well - the staff try so hard. As well as the "can do" attitude amongst the staff, there were new beds, a renovated pool area and a new main restaraunt. There was little evidence of delapidation, which is usually a sign of apathy or complacency. Each time I pointed out something minor, it was addressed within the hour.

My wife and I particularly appreciated the work of the maids who went the extra mile cleaning (and tidying) our apartment. The assistant manager is a consumate professional, whose maturity belies his youth: a balance of efficiently sorting things out, and being people and child friendly.

Our children (5,7 and 9) enjoyed everything: the pool(s), the food, the beach - even just the feel of the resort - familiar little walks between restraunt, appartment and playground etc. The resort was big enough to have good facilities, but small enough to recognise faces of staff and guests.

We booked accomodation only, but felt we got good value from the upgrade to all inclusive (a special offer was children could upgrade free when adults paid). Despite having 3 hot meals a day in the same restaraunt, there was a good degree of variety - certainly better than a previous AI experience.

The resort fronts right onto the beach - most of the others in Playa Blanca are sea front but not beach front. There is no road to cross to the beach either. Yes it is small, and yes some of it is stoney. However there is a sandy end which is ample for sand castles and shelves gently into the sheltered bay. Along with the gardens and the view across to Fuetreventura, we found it easy on the eye.

Sometimes a holiday is what you make of it, and maybe we came with low expectations. I suppose if you are really into sunbeds (we're not) then you would get frustrated at the towel on sunbed crew etc. However there is pleanty to do round the pool (reps games, aquarobics) and we just moved towels onto the next bed if we did fancy a lie down!

Overall, a great resort, great people and a lovely holiday.

Dear customers,
Thank you very much for your nice review. Certainlly I am very proud of my staff. From the maids to the waiters, from the cooks to the management we are a very committed team trying to give our customers the best possible service. We have a working philosophy where all employees are 100% guest-orientated. Some of them are trained to give the best service once they join the hotel and some others have been working like this for many years. In Flamingo Beach Resort we offer a perfect location, fantastic facilities for the whole family and couples, great service, excellent food and something difficult to find nowadays anywhere: happiness for our customers. In our hotel, happiness is more important than smile because smile comes from lips but happiness comes from the heart . We try everyday that all our customers get that happiness during their holidays with us and this comes from the everyday ´s effort of our employees and from their hearts. That is the key.
Best regards and hope to see you next year
Angel

We (myself and partner aged 28 & 27) have just returned from a week at this resort. We don't have children and were aware that it was a family club resort so the focus would be on kids. However, we still enjoyed our stay.

The room was a spacious apartment. We were self catering and it had all the amenities that you would expect to have. It was kept clean by the maids who even did the washing up. I think they came 3 or 4 times in the week. It had a lounge area with a TV however didn't watch it so can't comment on the quality! It did not have air con however the bedroom was kept cool by an overhead fan and portable fan which was fine despite it being very hot. It had a large bathroom and the shower had good pressure. There is a safe available at a small cost.

The pools looked clean, however, as many people have mentioned before, there was a lot of sunbed hogging, therefore we did not go in either the main pool or the quiet pool, prefering to go to the beach.

The beach is a small cove/bay which does have sand. It is quite rocky in places so I would recommend beach shoes. There are no sunbeds on the beach but we were quite happy to sit on our towels. The sea was fairly clear and we did a bit of snorkelling, and got to see a few fish. The sea bed does drop quite deep fairly quickly so be careful.

There are a handful of restaurants along the beach front and they all served good quality food. We enjoyed eating in the chinese restaurant, and a couple of them do takeaways until midnight as most close at around 10pm. There was only one bar at the hotel which we found made things a bit limited. This bar (The Blue Moon) is where all the Thompson evening entertainment is held and where all the children gather! There was not a huge choice in drinks and due to the euro was a bit pricey.....around 7.50 euros for a beer and a rum and coke. We did go there in the early evenings but tended to either buy drinks to have in the room, or go to playa blanca town which had a bit more variety. Playa Blanca town is either a 15 minute stroll down the beach front which is pleasant, or a quick taxi ride for about 3 euros. It is not a large town but has some good bars, restaurants and souvenier shops. It also has another small beach.

We did 3 excursions whilst there. Firstly was a submarine dive where we reached depths of 30 metres and saw a 3 metre long sting ray and a shipwreck and was a good experience. Secondly we went over to Feurterventura and saw the sandunes. This was a very long day and involved an hour coach ride and and hour and a bit boat ride. It would probably have been quicker and cheaper to do this independently from playa blanca harbour rather than through the Thompson reps. The final trip was to Timanfaya national park to see the volcanos, drive the lunar route, have a camel ride, visit some vineyards and see the green lakes which we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend doing. All of these trips were good but they are expensive throught the reps (all around 100 euros for 2 adults). If you go into playa blanca town you can probably find trips cheaper.

All in all this was a nice holiday to relax and get a bit of sun, and do a bit of sightseeing. The area is fairly quiet and the resort very family orientated, but we had a nice time and would recommend it (although probably to friends with children!)

AIRPORT TRANSFER AND ARRIVAL.
we were quickly shown to our transfer bus but were still last to embark.this worked in our favour as our cases were loaded last but first off enabling us to be the first to check in ,which was quick and efficient.we were issued our keys with map of the resort and info about the resort.we also decided to hire the safe for 30 euros.
ACCOMODATION
we had room 48a,on the first floor overlooking the pool.(we had e-mailed the manager mr .rivero to request this)their was all the usual amenities and cookware including a microwave.the tv had limited channels including cbeebies andbbc world.for 2euros a day you could request an upgrade on this to include itv,skysports1,sky1 and cartoon network.maids were in 5days out of 7.
RESORT ITSELF
2 pools got quite crowded but not to bad.as many have reported their is not enough sunbeds for the amount of people there.this resulted in a mad dash when the pool area was opened at 8.30a.m. evening entertainment venue(blue moon) opened at 6p.m. and started with childrens entertainment with usually an outside act at 10 p.m.
beach at front of the resort.go furthest away from the steps for the sandiest part of the beach.as others have reported take some bread and watch the fish eat out of your hand!
small shop for essentials (papers arrive about 11a.m.)
we were all inclusive and found the food quite good.maybe more for kids and a wider selection of desserts.you could also eat once a week at the el duque restaraunt on the front as part of your package.next door is the beach club where you can have snacks from 12-3.
DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT
the daytime entertainment was pretty much set in stone.
11.30 aqua aerobics foolowed by games water polo and a quiz.
my son(8) joined the kids club which was 1.30-3.30 and 7.30-9.30. we were given a card which we had to fill in stating where we would be if needed each time he went.
THE REPS
the reps were hard working and cheerful at all times, all seemed to muck in with everything.it is hard to single anyone out but i will anyway.
boogie baz,a latterday frankie howard with a comic aside or facial expression for every innuendo.(i was named freddie mercury!)
EXCURSIONS
we went on the rancho texas evening show .we decided not to go in the day as we have done the sealion ,parrot show etc to death.
we were a little concerned their would not be enough to occupy our 8 year old boy.
no worries,it was absolutely brilliant.
the bus was ambushed when we arrived at rancho texas and all the children were transferred to the entrance in a horse drawn carriage.we were shown to our seats and were supplied with jugs of beer which were replenished with a shout of yee-hah.
their was singing and dancing and a lasso show culminating in everyone taking to the dancefloor to learn a simple line dance.outside was a bouncy castle and pony rides for the kids.the buffet was barbecued chicken and ribs etc,all of a high standard.we left abour 11.15 after having a memorable night out.(110 euros for the 3 of us.)we booked this from the hotel .
we also went on the volcano express tour which we obtained from the booking office at the harbour(go to the front turn left and 10 min. walk).this was very interesting with demonstrations at the volcanos and a busride winding through the volcanic lava fields.
this was from 11.15 to 3.30.(30euros adult 15 kids)
their was an allday trip from the hotel for 49euros but we decided on the shorter one due to the heat.
DEPARTURE
a card was posted to our room the day before we left stating the time of departure.
we were waved off by most of the reps and thomson the dog.
FINAL THOUGHTS
our family had a wonderful holiday because there was plenty to do ,and because of the whole hearted enthusiasm of the entertainment team.
also we met some loveley people
hello dave and jane, and dave and julie.
i would highly recommend this holiday to families with young children.

Accommodation pretty basic, the living room second bed was poor and the showers are useless (couldn’t keep a temperature which made shower time a hassle with the kids).... Couldn't get near the pool as I wasn't prepared to get up at 7.30 to reserve a sunbed...... seen the pool area with sunbeds all taken with towels on at 9.00 and only about quarter of the people there. Kids unable to use the kids club as you have to sign them in at 6.15 in the evening so they can use it the next day. This is ok if you're staying at the complex all day. My husband wouldn't drink in bar as he said the beer wasn't very good. The surrounding area is very nice and there are some nice restaurants to eat at.

In the end the majority of the facilities were ignored by our group as we enjoyed spending time outside the complex. This was an average holiday, but I will not return as I have had much better family holidays.

I don’t understand the rave reviews that some people have given based on my experience. If you enjoy a ‘rat-race’ for facilities like sunbeds etc then you will enjoy this…..I am not prepared to spend my money on this however…..I expect facilities that are in line with the amount of people trying to use them.

Chose this hotel as we had 3 children in our group and thought this would be a great hotel for them. Yes, it would have been if we were All Inclusive and just wanted to sit around a pool all day - that's if you can get a sunbed. As we were self catering we were not around at 6.15 in the evening to sign the kids in which you have to do to ensure they have a space for the next day. Why you cannot sign them in anytime of the day baffles me. We were at the pool areas for the first few days around 10 ish in the morning and there was never one available so when we wanted to spend some time around a pool we headed to the Iberostar hotel. Would definitely recommend this Hotel. Did complain to the reps about this issue but said there's not much that they can do. They could extend the bedding area to go around the whole of the pool as it stops to make room for a lady to do hair braiding. I'm sure she can find another spot to do this - how about somewhere on the enormous seafront promenade!!!! Evening disco for kids was ok, have seen better, some reps are more enthusiastic than others. Would not return to this hotel due to these issues. Playa Blanca is a lovely resort though. Came with extended family and all enjoyed the resort.

What a great holiday. Hotel staff could not do enough for you. Reception, cleaners, bar staff, restaurant staff were polite, helpful and efficient at all times.. BRILLIANT Best team in a hotel for years. Excellent attitude accross the board. Thomson holiday advisors Matt, Frankie and Nathan,,, EXCELLENT.. friendly , helpful , informative.. what more could you want ! Entertainment team TWO WORDS ...BOOGIE BAZ !!!! not enough space to say what a hard working guy he is. Constantly brightening up your day ,, gave it 150% ,, welll done!!! Children's entertainer Tom another hard worker, kids loved him. Others including Vicky, Mel , Rachel, Tash, Carol, Nikki to name but a few... brilliant with the kids definately gave us adults a break ! Reps shows were good, they worked hard. Evening entertainment is indoors. Good mixture... Mini Disco,,,, I defy anyone NOT to do the Chocolatte !!!! Lovely SANDY beach , NEVER overcrowded. Yes there was a queue for Sunbeds but you could come down at 0845to 0900 and still find available ones. Food was good , 4 fussy kids in our group and NO complaints. Drinks were nice too (we went all inclusive). El Duque restaurant linked to hotel , we had a lovely meal in there too as part of all inclusive. Can't praise this place enough.. Great entertainment team, great family resort but with a very relaxed atmosphere... Really don't understand the negative reviews. Angel Rivero the Hotel Manager has done a FANTASTIC job .. keep up the good work !!!!!! Thank you for a brilliant holiday !!!! Londoners !

Dear customers,
First of all I would like to thank you for choosing our resort to spend your holidays with us.
Also I would like to express our gratitude for the positive feedback on your recent stay at the property. The majority of our guests are very satisfied guests and this is why we won the Gold medal in 2007 and 2008 and this is why you can see that most of the Trip advisor reviews are positive and the final scores we get. Of course some issues can happen but they are a very positive tool to make us improve and give better quality in the years to come.

We are very happy that you and your party had the chance to enjoy our hotel facilities and staff service and hope to see you soon on your next trip.

Best regards

Just returned from an 11 night stay at the flamingo. I'll start with the food, i must say the food is excellent, best of the last 5 thomson hotels i have stayed at. Rooms are great to, spacious, large fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, great views of the sea and fuerteventura, can only winge that the showers were not up to standard and the beds are the usual rock hard. All the staff from reception, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners and maintenence men were all so friendly and did a superb job. The thomson entertainers were fantastic as well, Boogie Baz, Mad Mel & Tricky Vicky did an excellent job keeping you all entertained day and night. The only thing here is the nightime entertainment is indoors and they do not put there aircon on and it can get a bit warm down the front as there is only 1 entrance at the back. Having said that if it were outside you would prob be a bit chilly in the constant breeze you get in Lanzarote. Dont let this put you off because this is 1 of the best thomson family club hotels i have been to although next year the Flamingo is moving to First Choice. If you are travelling soon with Thomsons then beware your luggage is not over the 20kg limit for each suitcase because they will charge £10 per kilo you are over, as a party of 8 people they charged us £140 for the 14kg we were over on our 8 suitcases, greedy work from Thomsons this year, must be the recession and they have discovered a way of making money back, BE WARNED.
