“Excellent Hotel & Entertainers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2009

Just returned from an 11 night stay at the flamingo. I'll start with the food, i must say the food is excellent, best of the last 5 thomson hotels i have stayed at. Rooms are great to, spacious, large fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, great views of the sea and fuerteventura, can only winge that the showers were not up to standard and the beds are the usual rock hard. All the staff from reception, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners and maintenence men were all so friendly and did a superb job. The thomson entertainers were fantastic as well, Boogie Baz, Mad Mel & Tricky Vicky did an excellent job keeping you all entertained day and night. The only thing here is the nightime entertainment is indoors and they do not put there aircon on and it can get a bit warm down the front as there is only 1 entrance at the back. Having said that if it were outside you would prob be a bit chilly in the constant breeze you get in Lanzarote. Dont let this put you off because this is 1 of the best thomson family club hotels i have been to although next year the Flamingo is moving to First Choice. If you are travelling soon with Thomsons then beware your luggage is not over the 20kg limit for each suitcase because they will charge £10 per kilo you are over, as a party of 8 people they charged us £140 for the 14kg we were over on our 8 suitcases, greedy work from Thomsons this year, must be the recession and they have discovered a way of making money back, BE WARNED.

just returned from Flamingo playa, only went for a week and had a great time,we booked all inclusive well worth it ,food in hotel good however is a little bit repetitive you would get fed up after 2 weeks.Resort good with a 15 min walk into town along a costal path ,nice to do in evening after dinner.thomson reps did well, the best rep show i have seen in A number of years, however the reps that did the grid could have done more about encouraging young teenagers to join, as our son for the first time ever did not go to club, this was because he is only 13 and could see that there were teenagers a lot older and he felt intiminated we spoke to others with younger teenagers who felt the same(this is some feed back for Thomsons).Hotel staff always had a smile of there faces and nothing was to much trouble. The main problem was the queing up for sun beds ,every morning between 7.30 onwards you have to que to get a sun bed and if you are lucky a umberella ,the pool staff open the pool area at 8.30 then there is a mad dash to get a sun bed etc apparently some one a couple of weeks earlier filmed it and it took 23secs.come on we are on holiday who wants this? The main prob is people saving sun beds and not sitting at them by 11am,as they are either at the beach or gone out for morning ,or day and want a bed when they get back this is not fair on other people, also there is not enough sun beds & umberellas for the amount of guests. hopefully this can be resolved by next year when this hotel becomes a holiday village.

We booked our All Inclusive holiday at the Flamenco Beach Hotel. We were 2 adults, a 18yr old, a 17yr old, a 9yr old and a 5yr old. On our arrival at 10pm we were informed that all the restaurants were closed and a meal had been left in our room. The meal was a takeaway box full of limp salad - which we were unable to eat! The food in the buffet restaurant was OK. Once a week you could eat a-la-carte - which wasn't a-la-carte - it was basic meals. Between 12 and 3 you could eat at the beach Club, however when they saw your all inclusive band you were handed a tiny menu compared to the one you were offered if you were paying for your food! We were told that there were 750 people staying at the hotel and they had 250 sunbeds available - most of which were broken! The morning ritual involved standing in a queue - yes a queue - at 8.20am to run to secure a bed when the barrier was lifted at 8.30am! It was unbelievable!!! The hotel is very child friendly - maybe a little bit too child friendly! There were kids clubs and daily entertainment as well as the mini disco, Thomson the Dog and night-time entertainment. For an extra 4euros the kids could go to a party from 7.30-9.30pm, which we twice took advantage of. Unfortunately the only bar in the hotel is where the main entertainment is, so having got rid of the kids for a few hours we still had to sit through the mini disco, Thomson the Dog and the Chocolatte song!!!!! The rooms were well equipped and clean - however we did discover a cockroach infestation one night. We went to reception to complain and were handed a cannister of bug spray!!!! Thankfully this did work but we were forever keeping an eye out for them after that. The weather was lovely, the beach was clean and we all enjoyed the break. If you are looking for a family friendly holiday with plenty of entertainment, then you will enjoy this hotel, but for me it was just too much like a foreign version of Butlins!

Dear customers,

Thank you for your review. Let me please explain some of the points you have highlighted. For the late check-ins we prepare a salad box as the buffet is already closed. We offer all the guests coming late the possibility to have lunch or dinner on the departure day to compensate somehow losing the first dinner for arriving too late which is not the hotel´s responsability. As for the menu in Beach club, this is just a gesture of the hotel. The AI includes snack´s buffet style in the main restaurant. We give the AI guests the option to eat those snacks in Beach club in front of the beach. It is not exactly as you say it because in Beach club the whole snack menu is at your disposal for free. What is extra is the lunch menu a la carte (not included in the AI package anyway). The same happens with the italian menu in El Duque. It is not included in the AI package but the hotel is offering it as a good gesture to all our customers. This August (peak season)we have had some issues with the sunbeds as some guests kept reserving sunbeds and going away for hours. This attitude is not very fair and obviously makes things more complicated. For the next summer season the hotel will create new sun bed areas and we will be capable of offering over 700 sunbeds. This should be enough to solve the problem.
I really regret I did not have the chance to talk to you as I came back from a short break two days ago. I would like to meet you again in the future here and try to offer you the holidays you really expected.
Kind regards
Angel Rivero

I have just returned from a week at this hotel (with my husbnadnd & 4 year old daughter) & can I say the reps were amazing - too many to mention as they just all could not do enough for you but particularly, Tricky Vicky, Boogie Baz, Mad Mel, Charis from Paris, Em-J, Wacky Will, Jolly Jill etc. You did have to queue to get a sunbed but I got up at 815 down to pool + always got a bed, there was some who-ha with other guests but I didnt see any of it. The activities around the pool were non stop but there was no pressure + you never felt it was over bearing. We met some lovely friends out there & had a real laugh. The club dances were brilliant and the facilities for kids outstanding. The reps in Kidzone came across as if they really loved kids & their jobs. I found the food to be good although not a huge shoice still tasty - especially lunchtime. Swimming lessons fab - thanks Happy Harriet & Lilo Laura. All the reps had so much energy which I found contagious! I have always booked First Choice before but I am already checking prices for Thomson Family Club Xtra next year, we even found out where some of our favourite reps had requested next year so we can see them again! By far the service the reps provided to make your holiday the best ever was outstanding, it was that which really made a difference. They all came to see us off & Thomson the Dog even tried to escape on our coach - all great for the kiddies. There isnt much of a beach tehre but enough to do some rock pooling, you can walk into Playa Blanca but bit of a distance with little ones. Apparently this resort will be a holiday village next year I hope this manages to keep the fab atmosphere that they created for us this year, Thanks

Dear customer,
Thank you for your nice review. As you say next summer season we will turn into Holiday village and I am sure that we will create a Wow in your holidays experience if you come back. Sorry I did not have the opportunity to meet you during your visit here as I was in my annual leave. Hope to see you next year.

Just spent a week at the Flamingo Beach Hotel I have never had such a wonderful week then i have just had. We had a warm welcome, Room was clean and spacious and a lovely view. Though we did not have any children with us we still joined in the activities it was great. We did not feel isolated in anyway. The Thomson Reps we could not find fault in they work very hard all day and Baz and his team are wonderful around the pool of a day time. The sunbeds well it goes on in nearly all the Hotels. My husband went down and made friends with other holidaymakers he quite enjoyed it of a morning. The hotel was excellent everbody friendly and helpful very clean everywhere. The Rep show well guys you were like professionals you made are last night fantastic. Just one more thing hope the rest of the season goes okay keep it up you are marvellous

Firstly, I should say the hotel itself was excellent. The Apartments were spacious, clean & well serviced and the staff very pleasant and obliging. It has a nice layout and is well maintained. The pool was a good size but very cold and the usual saga of towels on sunbeds at 8am went unhindered, even though the management stressed it would not be tolerated, towels on vacant sunbeds were never seen to be removed. The resort has all the usual Thomson Family Club Extra activities which my 8 year old daughter loves and she went to many day time and evening clubs of her own choosing. My main objection to this Beach Resort is the fact that it has no decent beach! Due to a hurricane a couple of years ago, the beach was destroyed and is now a vast pile of vocanic rock. No sunbeds, no umbrellas, no sand...As a family, we much prefer the beach to the pool. Less crowded and no hassle finding a sunbed & umbrella. This resort is still being shown in the brochures and online as a golden sandy beach littered with sunbeds and umbrellas and it is simply not true. IF YOU ARE SEEKING A HOLIDAY WITH A LOVELY BEACH, I URGE YOU NOT TO BOOK THIS RESORT

myself and my family stayed here we have 2 small children we could not fault the reps they where fantastic, boogie bazz, wacky will, fantastic frankie, they where amazeing they did try and sort out all our complaints!!The hotel was still being finished after having a major re-fit,painting sharp tiles in the pool, not enough sunbeds bearly any parasols we couldn't get our heads round this as its supposed to be a family complex i am sure most families with small children would not let there children be exposed to the sun all day, this matter really upset me as a mother i had to get up at 7.30 every morning to queue up for 8clock to try an reserve sunbeds and a parasol it spoilt the holiday!!When we booked it last year we booked halfboard and knowing that we could eat in the other resturants a couple of times a week, well to our disappointment the hotel said NO!!ALLWAYS TAKE THE BROCHURE WITH YOU THAT YOU BOOKED WITH!!,as the reps could do nothing as a new brochure was out since us booking!!We could go on,we are so upset and disappointed as it was our first abroad holiday with our young children and the whole holiday package cost £2800 not value for money, never again will we return ......the owens family!!

Dear customers,
Thank you for your review. The Delta storm damaged the beach 4 years ago as you mention. The Spanish government will repair the waterbreaks soon. I do not agree with your review as the beach is half rocky and half sandy. I can email a picture of the sandy part of the beach to the guests that request it to me (angel.rivero@nordotel.com). The rocky area is very popular amongs kids as they play with the small fishes. When the beach is fully repaired it will be probably the best in Playa blanca. However it is still nowadays a lovely beach, safe for families and yes with sand and with rocks on one side. Anyway our customers visiting Playa Blanca should not miss the Papagayo beaches, a virgen spot with inmaculate water and landscape.
Best regards
Angel
