Having stayed at the Natura Palace at the opposite end of Playa Blanca for our last two visits we decided to upgrade to the Princesca Yaiza, not least as we had read the rave reviews but also because of its more central location. We had already visited the hotel to have a look around earlier in the year so we knew about its spectacular design, layout and facilities and were not disappointed there. We had two concerns when booking - first the views from the rooms (so we upgraded to a Junior Suite) and the emphasis the hotel places on families. Staying in November we thought the numbers of children would be limited but were wrong - don't think I've ever seen so many buggies at one hotel, but at least we were prepared for this so cannot complain! The welcome was first rate - prompt attention, immediate access to our room, and luggage delivered very quickly, all top notch. The room itself was very good (B431) - large and well-appointed with balcony views over the pool area and across the bay towards Fuerteventura and only slightly impeded by palms. Only two negatives were the bathroom (which looks a little dated, particularly the bath-mounted shower) and the marginal in-room Wi-Fi internet access (hotel says it is working on improving that). We opted for the B&B option and paid a discounted rate for three nights' dinners at our choice of the hotel's three buffet restaurants, choosing to walk to nearby restaurants outside the hotel on the other evenings. Our first night was not the best - we believe due to the fact that there were two large groups staying in the hotel - one wedding and one corporate group - so there was a lot of music, loud voices, and corridor noise. Fortunately that was limited to the first night and things have been much quieter since. As for the restaurants the buffet breakfasts are perfectly acceptable but nothing out of the ordinary for most 4/5 star hotels but there is an option to "upgrade" to one of the hotel's 3 Al la Carte restaurants for 3 Euros per person per day - restricted choice compared to the buffet breakfast but very civilised and with wonderful views over the bay. Interestingly we were told we could only get one reservation as they were fully booked but when we turned up the restaurant was almost empty? So far we have only had 2 dinners at one of the three buffet restaurants - La Hacienda - nice setting, attentive staff but again nothing special about the food itself although the ingredients are undoubtedly high quality and there is plenty of choice. One irritation has been the wine list where my chosen wine has not been available twice. After dinner we have used the Lobby bar for an after-dinner coffee and nightcap (would have tried the Piano Bar but taken over for children's entertainment!). Not surprisingly in a 5 star hotel the drinks are expensive but the surroundings are lovely and the live entertainment has been good. With three more nights to go I don't see that anything will change my view hence posting this review now. In summary a very high quality hotel, beautifully appointed in the main, with excellent facilities and friendly and attentive staff. Ample choice of restaurants, both Buffet style and Al la Carte, but the food in the buffet restaurants at least does not seem to me to quite live up to the level I had expected of a 5 star hotel. Can't comment (yet) on the Al la Carte restaurants but might just try one before we leave. Of course, were we a family with young children then our review would be that much better but, for us in our 60s (old fogies!) it has been an interesting (not unpleasant) experience but not quite up to the standard we had hoped so it will be back to the Natura Palace for us next time.

With regard to families and couples, the week of your stay we had lots of families coming from the UK, as there was the mid-term break holidays for children in the UK, so this is probably the most family-week at the hotel during the year. The hotel has specific areas for couples, as our a la carte breakfast in the gourmet restaurant Isla de Lobos, with a beautiful seeing of the ocean. The hotel also has the 4 Lunas cocktails and music bar or the Thalasso Center, where you can find special packs only for couples, you can check them in our web site. We recommend you to try our deluxe half board in your next visit, so you can have a great culinary experience on our four a la carte restaurants. We hope to see you and your couple very soon in Lanzarote and we expect you choose the Princesa Yaiza again in your next visit.
