“Brilliant holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews for this place. Stayed at the hotel from 12th September. There are a lot of children and children's activities held on the Main stage but there are also other bars to drink in. Staff were always helpful, called you taxis right outside the hotel whenever you needed, were always there for anything else. Lost the key to one of the suitcases and the receptionist called the maintenance guy who got to our apartment before we even got back. Room was lovely, always clean and so spacious. Food was very nice and lots of choice, there is a Chinese food night on 3 or so of the nights as well as the main restaurant. Alcohol tasted abit rubbish but what can you expect when its all inc :) our apartment was about 10 steps from the waterpark which was great fun, there was all inclusive there too. And free shuttle bus to the beach came in handy. Basically lovely place, would definitely recommend to people with children and couples coming for a nice, not too hectic, holiday.

just got back 26 sep weather fantastic hotel and apartments nice plenty of room clean food ok but oh dear if you are looking for entertainment and you are over 10 years this is not the place for you although the team worked really hard every thing is gearded up for the kids nothing for adults unless you like bingo did go to rep and say why they couldn't have music dance quizzes in room down stairs as this was not been used for any thing and they had both English & spainish teams so surely two could have done this but rep just shook her shoulders although we did enjoy the week we spent there we wouldn't return for that reason xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Room Tip: we were in rooms 661 &663 ok near to water park

Just returned from a 2 week stay (12 - 26 Sept). Myself, husband, my parents and my two children aged 13 and 9 travelled. Was a bit nervous after reading reviews but they are not deserved. Hotel is spotlessly clean. All the staff are helpful and polite and the entertainment team do a really good job getting everyone involved in the activities but if you dont want to join in then they dont bother you.The food and drink is typical of an all inclusive holiday and there is something for everyone although I do think they could add some british bacon and sausages to the breakfast menu. Hotel was completely full when we went but we managed to get a sunbed everyday. Pool area was fab although you do get the odd family that leave their kids roam around the pool on their own and you find yourself watching them to make sure they dont fall in while their parents are supping their cocktails completely oblivious to the danger. We always go all inclusive and have to say we couldnt believe how laid back they about the food in that you could take food from the chinese into one of the other restaurants or just fill your plate and eat it by the pool whereas normally you are not allowed to take food from the restaurant in other hotels. There is a beer pump on the outside of the pool bar so you could just go and help yourself and yes the drinks are served in plastic cups but you wouldnt want glass around the pool area anyway but if you are totally against the plastic cup then they have no objection to you taking a pint glass to the bar and they will use that for you. Maids came in almost everyday of our holiday. Bar and restaurant staff were always busy but they still had a smile on their face for you. The hotel is a fair walk into town but you can get a taxi for 3 euros but in all honesty you dont need to leave hotel cos everything is there. If you do venture out then go to a bar called Popeyes as they show the footy and they only charge 2 euros for a pint or 1 euro during happy hour. All in all I cant fault this hotel or its staff. If I had to say anything bad about the place then it would be about some of the british guests who seem to go all out to drink as much alcohol as they possibly can and then become a pain in the backside by tea-time when they cant stand up. The entertainment teams (both Thomas Cook and Hotel team) worked really hard and always put on a show in the evening but I did miss the outside shows that normally come to hotels like the parrot show etc. I would definately return here and the kids loved all the activities like killer darts and football but be careful adults as they play a game called Beer pong everyday and if you lose you have to down beers and vodkas. Waterpark is absolutely fantastic for adults and kids. If you go on any of the trips then try the wild west night as it is fantastic. They also do another night called MHT (its a drag night) and while the show is ok they cram as many people as possible on the tables and it is really uncomfortable. One more thing is dont take travellers cheques as there is nowhere to cash them in. I even went into proper banks in Playa Blanca and they wouldnt take them either so take cash or your bank card cos as long as you got a room safe then you will be fine. When you get to hotel you have to pay a 10 euro deposit for the tv remote and 10 euros for the air con remote. The safe is 16 euros per week and also a 10 euro deposit but you get all the deposits back at the end of the holiday. The have a launderette in the hotel which is 5 euros per load which includes the detergent. The lady in the shop next to the hotel is an absolute miserable cow and she has a fit if you ask her for change. The hotel wifi is not the best but you can use the internet in reception for 1 euro (10 minutes).

Room Tip: Our room was in the 500 block which is right by the entertainment and pool area

Just returned from Paradise Island, Playa Blanca - We were there from 19th September to 26th September.

After a relatively easy flight besides the leg room we landed at Arrecife Airport. There is a bit of a walk from the main airport to the pick up area but there are travelators to make it a bit easier although the holiday makers that were desperate for a cigarette lit up straight away so as you are making your way to the coach you get overpowered with smoke.

Found the coach fairly easy and after roughly a 30min journey we were the first to be dropped off.

First impressions were fairly good, got seen to very quickly was explained about deposits(although we were already expecting this, we decided to wait till we got to the apartment to see what we actually needed) we were told that if we wanted we could put our suitcases in the luggage room and go for food. which we did and were pleasantly surprised and we then went and found our apartment.

We previously emailed Hotel Lopez group and requested a first floor apartment which we received gracefully, room number was 416, 1 minute walk to the centre and the opposite way to the waterpark. Self catering utensils were few and far between but as we were AI there was what we needed - Room was clean and adequate enough bathroom was clean and although shower riser rail was worn it wasn't a problem. Mattresses weren't brill but we slept fine and just folded the flat pillows in half.

We took our own towels for the beach and pool and the TV was usable without the remote. We paid 10 Euro deposit for the aircon and once it was on it stayed on, we could have actually left it on and took the remote back to get deposit straightaway (we did do this the day before we left)

Food - adequate enough, nothing special but all cooked well and enough choices. We went with a preteen who who is very fussy and wont even eat pasta but he managed to find something to eat everyday.

Breakfast choice was watermelon, bananas, yoghurts, pastries, fried eggs, pancakes with flavoured syrups, toast, fresh bread, sausages, sometimes crispy potatoes, boiled eggs, beans, fresh tomatoes, bacon, continental, cereals, dried fruit(figs, apricots etc) so enough choice, the only down fall was the toasters, very slow and with only 2 they could have done with a couple more.

Lunch - you could eat at the pool bar which was usually, fried fish, chicken nugget type things, chips a bit of salad and burgers or you could go into the restaurant which had a good choice.

Afternoon snacks were available and was ham and cheese bread and cakes and a toaster available so you could do toasties. People moaned about the choice but seeing as the restaurant opened again at 6.30 it was adequate.

Lunch - lots of different choices, could sometimes do with labelling things up a bit better, chinese was okay but we mainly ate in the main restaurant. Waiting staff were very polite and asked before taking plates etc.

Drinks - rose a bit hit and miss but lager absolutely fine, Cocktails were lovely. People moaning about plastic glasses by the pool really have no idea as they would be the first to moan if they had stood on broken glass. Upstairs bar supplied glasses. Cup size was okay. they had the larger tropicana plastic cups for cocktails so when we wanted a bigger drink we just asked for them. They also have sangria on tap :)

sunbeds and pool - the first day we tried the water park which was okay but felt they should put the pool and waterpark together. we managed to get a sunbed everyday.

Entertainment - we never really participated in anything and stayed at the upstairs bar in the evening as the entertainment was a bit too young for our 11yr old but the kids we saw loved it and they done the dances round the pool and participated in the games throughout the day.

Around the area- Free bus is brilliant - we would have breakfast and get the first bus to Doroda beach, never had a problem getting seats. rather than wait around for the bus to get back we would walk back which took about 20 mins but was level ground so a very easy walk. You are set back away from the bars etc but there is a taxi rank just down from the hotel and the hotel will order taxis for you. There is alss the number 30 bus stop outside the hotel which runs till about 2230. there is another beach called playa flamingo which is near the first choice resort which is about 20 minute walk. the beach is quite sheltered as you have rock boundaries closing it off from the main tide, here you can hire pedaloes with slides etc. All the beaches were the same price for sunbeds. 3 Euro each bed and 3 for a parasol

Local shop - not bad prices, never had any problems with rude staff.

If your going to walk up montana baja opposite make sure you do it first thing before the sun gets too high in the sky. The views from the top are worth it but wear trainers and take a bottle of water. It took us about 30 mins to walk up and about 40 mins to walk around the perimeter, we also walked down into the bed. It gives you a good view of playa blanca.

Cats - yes there are a few but we had no problems at all, never saw them in the main buildings so no issue at all!!

My only moans were the fact that parents allowed their children to help themselves to drinks so the floor was constantly sticky around the machines and and the staff struggled to keep up with cleaning the areas due to this. Also the icecream which again the kids helped themselves to and ended up a melted mess.

All in all a very good holiday, we spoke to a lot of people that were dubious due to the bad reviews but they enjoyed the holiday and had no problems.

Room Tip: we stayed in 416 which was ideal.

Would recommend this hotel to everyone. All ages, for families, couples, singles. Caters for everyone! Staff brilliant. Well mannered, polite, what more could you ask for.
Waterpark great for everyone also. I enjoyed going down slides as much as my daughter.

Room Tip: 562, right next to waterpark. Quiet at night.

Just got back from here and i have to admit i was a bit let down after reading some great reviews about this place.
I will start at the beginning.
Flight was average..crammed in,less legroom each year go by,nothing i didnt expect from thomas cook.
coach took us straight there which was good.
reception was very efficient and they spoke excellent english.
we got room 413.a lower room halfway between waterpark and the pool.
It was teatime when we got there and went straight for food which was quite good, good selection good salads and meats.
A few flys in the dining area that didnt seem to bother us much.
our first morning and we went early to the pool to be told we coudnt go in till 9am..thats honestly a first ive ever come across..the pool and pool side at every hotel ive been to are cleaned by 7am latest.
so we went for breakfast..scrambled eggs...i dont think so..yellow runny mess and it never improved, bacon was burnt to a crisp and not the good burnt but chewy and tasteless the sausages were good...for now.everything else was ok...again a few flys..starting to notice them more.
went back to the pool were you had a good selection of beds...for now...the poolside cleaning consisted of jetspraying the muck from one place to another never actually getting rid of it..there was fag butts all over stuck in the cracks (more on that later)
Their was 3 places to get your all inclusive drinks..the upstairs bar which wasnt open till 7 ish and shut at 11 then the resteraunt then the pool bar.
The pool bar is the only place to get drinks from during the day...Lager WATERED DOWN AND FLAT ALL THE TIME..if anyone comments that it wasnt has no taste buds what so ever..The coke machine was flat 99 percent of the time. You got no value for money on the drinks.
We sunbathed...more flys...we ate...more flys...we drank...more flys.
Flys everywere you went.
we went out had a couple of beers and could tell straight away i was right about the lager.
The waterpark was good for an hour or so on the slides then the kids got bored of it until the day after so that was a good distraction.
Then our apartment flooded with sewage water!! Feaces and other stuff all over our room!!
Credit to the reception they moved us straight away to 512 on a balcony..which we had a feeling that this room had flooded at some point as it stunk of sewage.
But now the sunbeds were getting covered with towels around 7am to which the hotel did nothing about...the fag butts were all over..i witnessed people throwing their butts under beds thinking no one was watching.
We were told that across the resteraunt was a chinese/mexican/italian resteraunt..infact their wasnt it was only chinese every other night and not bad but not very good either.
The entertainers worked so hard making every minute count for those that wanted to join in poolside activitys.
The entertainment at night was a good effort to please everyone of all ages..And Ben if you get to read this please dont ever sing again! ;)
Heres my biggest problem with british holiday makers...Food,they complained there wasnt enough variety...heres a solution..stop trying to put everything on your plate at once!!!
Smoking!! in the uk its banned to smoke in public places for a reason...second hand smoke has been proved to cause cancer.
so why do ignorant parents and such all sit in the entertainment area next to maybe 100 kids smoking like there life depended on it? Its because your in a different country its alright to damage my kids lungs with your filthy habit?
they made this place stink and look dirty due to fag butts being tossed everywere and then not being cleaned up properly.
The hotel could easily make this place so so so much better by a few better practises...ban smoking in the hotel for one..clean your rubbish and food waste better thus preventing flys everywere, its alful to say but get rid of the cats..do the hotel know were they are doing there 1s and 2s?
There has been some bad reviews about this place and i can see why..if it got busy it was chaos at dinner time..they changed the good sausages for hotdog ones at breakfast becuase it was getting busier..the drinks in all places went downhill when it got busier.
I dont holiday in the carribean and expect top notch service but i expect better for my money than this..i will not go back to playa blanca or paradise island until it improves its standards.
