“Good value holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

My wife and I booked 2 weeks before departure for a weeks break in Lanzerote. Reason for chosing was previous positive reviews, and location.
Positives: Big spacious clean hotel which never felt overcrowded. Food both breakfast and dinner very good quality and choice plus waiters and waitresses very efficient at clearing table of used plates.
Main pool area very nice and again uncrowded however for real peace and quiet the pool at the back of the hotel was better and just adults relaxing.
Great indoor pool for lane swimming plus sauna and jacuzzi at a small extra cost.
Hotel almost on the beach about 2 mins and the main shops and resturants 5 mins.
Room was ok, big enough lots of wardrobe space and nice seperate toilet and bath/shower.
As per previous reviews yes the room could do with a little bit of up-dating but unless you looked closely they were all minor details mainly carpet looked well worn.
My only negative was when checking in we were asked if we wanted to up-grade to a sea view at a cost I cannot remember however it seemed a lot. We decided to decline and thought we would see what room we were given.........Suprisingly our room was further back from the sea but still had a side sea view and a outlook over small golf course. So unless its a special occasion and you dont mind paying more just see what room you are given.
We stayed last week in April and had quite good weather, 1 day of cloud and slight rain the rest good.
Also I agree that some sunbeds were very saggy and in need of stretching. My only other slight negative was dress code for dinner???? It clearly states with a sign that no shorts but long trousers will be accepted. I was more than happy to abide however the outfits some people were wearing were pretty scruffy both gentlemen and ladies. I am of the oppinion that sometimes a nice pair of shorts and smart shirt look better than trousers and teeshirts.
Having stayed with my wife in Fuertaventura where most of the guests at the hotel were German, I was surprised that the majority were Spanish and very friendly.
In summery I would recomend this hotel due to good food, location, clean and good value.

Room Tip: As mentioned wait and see when you check in before paying extra and ask for high floor room.

My husband and i stayed bed and breakfast over easter for a relaxing break. We were given a very warm welcome at the hotel along with an option of a full sea view room at a supplement of 10 euros extra per night . As we were working to a budget and had stayed at the hotel several times, declined this option. We asked for a room overlooking the car park as we knew we would get the advantage of the afternoon and late evening sun with the added value of a very good but partial sea view overlooking Fuenteventura. The room was spotless, large but slightly care worn and could do with some updating. The bedding was changed almost daily along with fresh towels every day. The only down side was the TV channels which mainly showed German programmes, I found this surprising due to the amount of British holiday makers staying at the hotel!
Breakfast was very good with a wide variety of choice - great choice of different breads and pasteries along with the usual hot choices.
The location of the hotel is great with the beach just at the bottom of the hotel garden and all the restaurants just 5 min walk away. There was a fabulous adult only swimming pool with attractive area but the pool could have been warmer. The spa is lovely with great indoor pool and sauna and an ideal place to enjoy a massage or manicure! The staff very great friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, although you could wait at reception a little too long and more staff on reception would be good move.

Room Tip: Don;t use up your baggage allowance bringing towels as the hotel supply them for the beach or pool...

Stayed in room 1186 from March 17th to the 24th. Reserved via booking.com and payed 569€ for 1 week for standard double room with baby bed, half board (breakfast buffet + dinner buffet).
Room was clean and spacious with carpet on the floor. Room had a corridor with a pretty big wardrobe and a section to store for example beach equipment. There was a safe in the room but they charged extra for its use. Room had no fridge. Room had a telephone. Had a TV a bit out dated. Most channels in Spanish. In English they had sky news and bbc news. There were 3 cartoon channels but all Spanish (in spain all movies and tv shows are dubbed to Spanish). Room had air conditioning but no heating but plenty of blankets (nights were cool so we had to use these to sleep comfortably).
Bathroom was divided in 2 separate sections: toilet + bidet and bathtub + sink. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom although not very potent.
Room had a terrace with a view that wasn’t at all unpleasant although not fantastic (we didn’t book sea view). Terrace could have been a bit cleaner since there were some cigarette buts in a section where some plants were planted. Terrace door didn’t lock when we arrived. Complained at the reception and on that day it was fixed.
Didn’t appreciate the fact that rooms didn’t have a fridge since this way I couldn’t store basics like water, milk or food for our child although at the reception they had a fridge where they would store our childs milk and at times other things that we asked but it was always a hassle to have to go ask.
Booking sea view could be risky since the hotel has a double “U” configuration and it is hard to say what rooms have sea view and which do not. Almost any room in any section of the hotel could have a glimpse or total view of the sea. I would say that most ground floor will not have sea view. Third floors would probably have. Some rooms which are probably considered sea view could infact be blocked by trees or by the pool cafeteria (specially the ground floors) but I do not know what is the hotel’s criteria to select sea view. Personally I would book the cheapest and try to upgrade once at the hotel but I suppose that is only be possible if there is availability and maybe subject to very high prices.
It is possible to hear other kids in other room as i'm sure other people heard mine. So this wasn't really a problem for me since nights were generally silent.
Hotel corridors to most rooms were open air but temperatures never get very low at night so this wasn’t really a problem.
Hotel had a normal, well supplied buffet. We had breakfast and dinner buffets included. Although, after a week, you get a bit fed up of eating more or less the same. At breakfast you had everything from cereals, milk, tomato juice, artificial orange and pineapple juice, a big variety of breds, scrambled, boiled and fried eggs, pancakes (no maple syrup), variety of cheeses, ham, potatoes, bacon, etc..
For dinner there were salads, breads, sops, cheese, a variety of desserts, including ice cream, paella and for main course meals they always had meat and fish and there were also theme nights: Italian, mexican, chinese, Spanish, etc). At dinner water and drinks were extra. 0,5 l of water cost 2€ and a beer the same. This felt a bit of a rip-off since there is a water machine you could use at breakfast but that is covered at dinner. So this forces you to buy bottled water.
There is a nice bar area with a music show (nothing special) every night. Good enough to have a pleasant time at night. One night there was an Elvis concert, another a parrot show, another a magic show. There is a guy called “Mike” who is the all day entertainer. He puts on a show for kids every night at 20:30 but you better talk to him before since if there are no kids around he won’t play the show. During the day he keeps people entertained with several activities. There are also pool tables, and card tables.
I would say 70 % of the age group of the hotel was >50. There were some couples with kids and some honeymooners. Maybe not ideal if you are looking for action, nightlife etc. Maybe in the summer it is different. I went during low season.
Hotel also has a gym, with 25 m pool, Jacuzzi, spa, etc, at a daily fee (don’t recall how much).
Basically we went for beach. Very nice beach right next to hotel. 2 Chairs + umbrella cost 8 €/day so I walked to the centre and got myself a parasol for 10 € and used it for the week. Measured the temperature of the ocean and it was at 18ºC. At one day went up to 19ºC. Cool but not freezing. On one day there was an invasion of small jellyfish but they disappeared after a day.
Pool area of the hotel was also pretty nice. Although the 2 small pools had cold water (between 18-20 ºC) the largest pool, which also has a very shallow area for kids was at 28º C really pleasant. There is also a second pool area on the other side of the hotel much emptier and quieter.
Temperatures in March were pretty warm during the day, up to 25ºC but lowered to maybe about 18-20 º C at night. We needed a sweater for the night.
The hotel is right on top of a boardwalk that follows the sea. Looking at the ocean, if you walk 10 min to the left you will find a nice and fancy marina, although it seemed a bit empty at this time of the year. If you walk to the right for about 15 min you will reach the centre of Playa Blanca, an area full of bars, restaurants and shops all along the boardwalk. Definitely worth the walk.
A good price for a car rental is 30 €/ day or 40 €/2days. Worth visiting the Timanfaya volcanos area and take a bus tour there. There is also a very beautiful beach 10 km from the hotel ,you could only go by car, called Playa Papagayo (a real paradise). Could also get there by boat taxi from the centre of Playa Blanca.
For another good price for the transfer from the airport to the hotel, check on the internet “Last Minute Travels” for transfer to the hotel. You must book in advance. I was told a regular taxi would cost 50 € eachway. I paid 40 € return for 2 adults + 1 child. It is a minibus. On the return make sure you are at least 10-15 min before your scheduled time or they might leave without you.
Overall had a very pleasant time at the hotel and weather was fantastic for March.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 1 week in April 2012.

We wrestled for ages after reading Tripadvisor reviews of all the different hotels in Playa Blanca (and considering other resorts and even other islands) and finally picked this one on the basis of the price and that it had a reasonable number of mostly positive reviews. Here are our combined thoughts:

Good points:
- The hotel was very well located. Right by the sea, and halfway between the marina (nice for evening dining) and the town (good for everything else) with a nice walk along the seafront promenade to get to each.
- It was clean and generally well run. When we arrived we were told we couldn't have a double bed as all their double rooms were fully booked, but they sent someone up within 10 minutes to make our twin up as a double. We were also upgraded to a junior suite which was very big and came with a seating area and fridge.
- There was an adults-only pool meaning we were bothered very little by noisy families
- There is also a reasonably well-equipped gym and an excellent 35m indoor lap pool which I loved because it was always virtually empty and it was warm (compared with the chilly outdoor pools).
- There was a good mix of nationalities and ages, we didn't feel like we were stuck in a specifically family/old people's/German/Russian etc hotel.
- Other facilities generally seemed to be good though we didn't make much use of them. The 'entertainment' was easily avoided and not too offensive. There are pool and ping pong tables, a bookcase full of books, and various activities arranged throughout the day if you want to join in (we didn't).

Bad points:
- The food wasn't brilliant but about what you'd expect given the numbers they're catering for. There was certainly plenty of choice and we never went hungry but obviously since it's a buffet it's never going to be 5* dining.
- It got VERY noisy in the mornings with other guests making noise in the corridors and particularly the housekeeping who wheeled VERY rattley trollies over the tiled floors from about 7.30 am. On Easter Sunday morning of all days they even started moving furniture in the room directly above us at 7 am! (We never did get an explanation for that). Don't expect to be able to have long lie ins!
- The bed wasn't particularly comfortable.
- Our sea view was a bit tenuous as really we looked over a car park with the sea some way beyond it. However a lot of the other sea view rooms are literally right over the sea so I guess we just got unlucky.

All in all we felt we were happy with our choice. We didn't see any other hotels that we felt would have been better in that price bracket and I would recommend this hotel to others if you can't afford to go 5*!

Room Tip: If you're paying for a sea view be aware that they can vary. Ask for one at the back that's...

This hotel is in an excellent location in a fantastic, family friendly (quiet) resort, is spotlessly clean and has friendly, helpful staff. Excellent sea front location half way between the harbour and marina, lovely flat promenade for day and evening walks.
Our room was starting to look dated however the housekeeping service is excellent with rooms being thoroughly serviced every day.
The pool areas were excellent with plenty of beds and umbrellas. Many sun beds were saggy and ideally needed to be replaced. Outdoor pool was beautifully warm and not many people swam in it. The hotel also has a full 25m indoor pool area with jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms (extra charge). Beach towels can be hired for a 15euro deposit so no need to bring your own. Free wifi in rooms which was a bonus, but NO tea making facilities. Stayed on half board basis - plentiful food with lots of choice and some dishes were cooked to order.

Room Tip: Take your own kettle and tea/coffee

We wanted to have a good value week away on a beach front hotel. We booked this hotel because it had a heated swimming pool and because it was good value.. We were not disappointed. The main pool is large and is heated to a very comfortable temperature - it would be excellent for children. There is a beautiful sandy beach just outside the hotel and you can walk for a couple of miles along the promenade.
The staff were very helpful. I was concerned about comments of queues for meals. We arrived in the dining room between 7 and 8 pm and never had to queue. There was always a good selection of food and a good ambience.
We asked for a room in a quiet area and if possible a view. We overlooked part of the pitch and put and could see the sea through the trees - a pleasant, quiet room.
There is good free wifi in the spacious reception area.
If you want tea and coffee in your room, bring your own kettle.
We had an excellent break. Well done Hotel Hesperia.
We booked through lowcostholidays. Transfers would have cost us £28 but we booked a car for a week for £70. We enjoyed visiting Timanfaya national park, El Golfo, where you can look for peridots (green semi precious stones) and also drove the Le Geria, the wine region.

We booked this hotel on the basis of having read other reviews. We really enjoyed our stay. Hotel was very clean, staff very courteous and overall a lovely leisurely time was enjoyed. The hotel has three swimming pools and also a leisure suite. If you prefer the beach this is only a short stroll away along a lovely promenade. At one end of the promenade is the Rubicon Marina ( where the weekly Market is held), about ten minute walk away and at the other end is the Harbour (about 20 minute walk). We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast and Dinner were buffet style with a large variety to choose from. There were no long queues for the restaurant and no queues for the food. Room service was available every day and I was pleasantly surprised to see that because we were on the ground floor we had a wifi free room.
