“A very relaxing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Spent 2 weeks at this hotel over Christmas. A well kept low rise development that does not feel crowded even when it seemed to be full. Good selection at the buffet for breakfast and Dinner. Although the restaurant was good we would probably go back on a bed and breakfast basis to take the opportunity to visit the good selection of other restaurants on the doorstep. We particularly liked the Blue Note bar a few steps from the rear entrance. Easy walking in both directions along the seafront and also accessible for those in wheelchairs.

Room Tip: We stayed in 506 which does suffer fan noise from the adjacent restuarant. A good view though and su...

I do not normally write giving my opinion about the hotels where I have stayed, mainly because from my point of view thanks to Internet you have easy access to reliable information just with a click. Apart of that and in order to avoid bad experiences I use to book in five starts hotels from well known hotel brands, looking for an extra service that unfortunately in many cases only can be achieved wasting huge amounts of money. The thing was that when I was looking for a hotel in Lanzarote to spend the New Year's Eve in various web pages, my little son Carlitos flying as usual around my computer saw the picture of the hotel with its big Vulcan. So big was his shock that during the next three days it was his only one topic of conversation. So what I could do! My first surprise was that the hotel was fully booked, they should be very happy to be able sell around three hundred rooms, so it made me think that so many people can not be wrong. I tried to get a confirmation but we were a big party son initially no luck. That is the reason why I decided to contact myself with the hotel. Initially they confirmed that the hotel was completely booked but just during our phone call they received a fax with the cancellation of a Russian group which couldn't be able to arrange their papers on time, so great, the booking was done in different room types. The price were indeed incredibly competitive rates even for the higher standards rooms, those allocated in something called "Club Volcan" or something like that. Its looks like that it is an exclusive part of the hotel free of children with its own facilities in a luxury environment for people who look for an extra service as I do. Very often a fully booked hotel means noise and people everywhere, queues for the spa entrance and of course no slots available for a massage, not at all, the hotel is so big that when wandering around you will have the feeling of being the last person in the world and it means relax and relax everyday. In conclusion, huge rooms with all the amenities you can imagine for free, great food in the buffet as well as in the rest of the romantic restaurants along the swimming pool, helpful people everywhere at any time, a lot of fun for children during the major part of the day, ideal location surrounding by plenty of restaurants, shops and places to walk or exercise yourself, good facilities for adults and children in a clean and well maintained atmosphere and everything from my point of view with unbeatable rates. Indeed a lovely place where to spend your money and with a much better service that offered in more expensive hotels from big hotel brands. In fact much more than you can expect.

Room Tip: Because the hotel was fully booked, all the members of our group were allocated in different rooms s...

I have just returned from a New Years break at the fabulous “Hotel Volcan” in Playa Blanca.

Just reiterate what other reviewers have already said, the staff at the hotel were absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived. Nothing seems too much trouble for them and they made our stay a very memorable one.

The hotel is laid out in the theme of a Canarian village with beautiful swimming pools and plenty of places to relax in the sun and in the shade. Both the breakfast & evening buffets were extremely good with a wide selection of food.

I travelled with my wife and three children (ages 11, 8 & 5) and we all had a marvellous time, the hotel had something for everyone. If you’re looking for a quality holiday in a quality hotel the “Hotel Volcan” is the place to stay!

We too have just returned from the most chilled out, fabulous Christmas week break at the Hotel Volcan on Lanzarote.

No huge brick building full of little boxes, but a meandering complex of apartments snaking through the ultra clean grounds and pools. Overlooking the marina and the azure blue sea beyond.

Rooms and huge, with a twin aspect bathroom, clean towels every day, an enormous 8 feet bed, lounge area and balcony with lounge furniture. Free Wifi, albeit a little slow at times.

The resort is Perfct for those wanting a complete stress free, quiet and relaxing break away from it all. Fortunately not many children which was a bonus for us, and added to the tranquility.

The staff are brilliant and attentive. The cleanliness of the public areas is excellent, even the lifts smelled lovely !

Food, buffet style, suitable for all tastes, huge variety of everything. We stayed half board, and enjoyed breakfasts and evening meals.

Definitely recommend this if you are looking for this type of holiday. It is quiet, which again keeps noisy youths away, another bonus for us.

I have mobility problems, but there are ramps so no areas were difficult for me to get to. We will visit again for sure.

A perfect stress free Christmas week for us, away from all the hassle which has become the norm for the UK !

Room Tip: Definitely request mid or top floor to twke advantage of balcony views

My husband & I have just returned from Lanzarote, having spent the most wonderful week at Hotel Volcan. Having visited the island twice before, we had no need to go on any excursions, all we wanted to do was relax ~ & boy could you do that at the Volcan!!!! You don't need to even get off your lounger to get a drink from the bar ~ just press a little buzzer & the waiter comes out to you! All the staff are friendly & courteous & nothing is too much trouble. There are free towels for the loungers, which by the way all have padded covers & tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. The rooms are really spacious with ample wardrobe space & plenty of drawers. There is a fridge & a TV & comfortable seating with a coffee table. Beyond that is a roomy balcony. We went on a bed/breakfast basis but we were able to enjoy the gala buffets on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. The quality & variety of the food is second to none & you would have to be a very faddy eater to not find something you liked! The breakfasts were buffet style & there was so much to choose from that most days we didn't have any lunch because we were still full from breakfast. There was Bucks Fizz available every morning with breakfast! Evening entertainment was on most nights. The flamenco dancing was great because it involved audience participation ~ good fun! The Dixie Band was rather dull as they had no rapport with the audience but other than that the acts were very good.
The hotel is attractively set out & the 'Dome' is very impressive. When you see it from the outside at night it looks as though there is lava running down it ~ very imaginative! There are plenty of places to eat around the Marina but it is only a short 10/15min walk to the main shopping area of Playa Blanca. Would we stay there again? Most certainly! The added bonus (as a retired primary teacher) was that there were only a handful of children staying there so it was very quiet & totally stressfree.

Room Tip: Our room 254, was very quiet

My husband and stayed here for a week 9th dec to 16th. We had a club room,it was well laid out with a great view. The hotel was quiet at that week perfect for us,we had lovely peaceful week, the marina was quiet, perfect as we could eat where ever we wanted. We did have the buffet twice in the hotel was a good buffet no complaints but personally I just dont like buffets. The hotel grounds and all pools were well kept and very clean as were all public areas, all the staff were very professional and very pleasant, particulary the staff at breakfast, the breakfast was very good too excellent choice available. We both had massages at the spa, unfortunately I can`t remember masseuse`s name and she was top class we both had aches and strains she gave me good advice for a slipped disc and treated husbands tendenitis, definately worth a visit whether its for pure indulgence or help! I can say that we have been to a lot of great 5star hotels, that were more costly than this one,but we will be returning to this hotel we had a good relaxing week set me up for christmas.

Room Tip: we had 753 looks out over pool and sea top floor so nice and quiet

We stayed for two weeks as a family with three three teenagers. Whist this is not strictly a 5 star hotel, I can certainly echo previous comments as to the excellent standards of service by extremely friendly and courteous staff. We found the breakfast and dinner buffets to be top quality with considerable variety. We availed of the option to dine out at nearby restaurants twice each week mainly as our children wanted a change of scene. it was also nice to be waited on as the hotel began to fill up over the Christmas week and the hotels buffet restaurant became quite busy at times.
The hotel is ideal if you are looking for a very quiet break but is clearly most suited to older couples and not particularly good for families with teenagers. There was little in the way of suitable activities for them on site, organised or otherwise (pool or air hockey with the occasional Zumba class).
A big disappointment was the absence of a heated pool. Don't be misled by the "acclimatised" pools mentioned in the brochures. Both were only fractionally warmer than the unheated and cold main pool which meant that the pools remained empty throughout the whole of our stay. As a heated pool was one of my criteria for choosing this hotel, We were all most disappointed with the absence of this facility in a 5star hotel.
The spa area was out of action during our stay as it was undergoing refurbishment and was something we felt should have been made aware of prior to booking
Another disappointment was the in house evening entertainment which was provided every other evening from about 9.30 - 11.30pm. This consisted of local groups performing with backing tracks which provided little if any atmosphere, their popularity testament to the large number of empty seats.

Room Tip: Rooms on levels 4 and above provide the best views. A sea view over the pool is probably best

The hotel is located just 10 km from the Timanfaya National Park, 900 metres from the picturesque fishing village of Playa Blanca, where you will find shopping centres, bars and restaurants, and just 30 minutes from the International Airport of Arrecife. Andres Pineiro, the chief architect of the project, chose a design based on a complex of classical buildings that are a true reflection of the typical architectural style of the island. The design of the hotel is reminiscent of a typical village of Lanzarote, with romantic patios, traditional courtyards and secluded spots, together with the magnificent hotel entrance which is a replica of the Teguise church of "Ntra.
