“A little piece of paradise in Lanzarote”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We have just had the most awesome week at the Volcan Lanzarote. As seasoned travellers who enjoy good hotels we had high expectations for here and were we're not disappointed at all. The reception on arrival was second to none. We arrived off of a delayed flight and were greeted with a glass of fresh juice and escorted quickly to our room where we found a cold platter of lovely meats, cheeses, bread yoghurt etc. Our room overlooked the Rubicon Marina, so peaceful and very large. Fabulous big bath and amazing shower with lovely toiletries and sumptuous towels.

We opted to upgrade to Club Volcan and were delighted with the whole experience - breakfast was amazing with lots of choice and every morning we had freshly cooked eggs, bacon or omelette served to us at our table. The pool area was so relaxing with a mixture of sun beds and lovely comfortable wooden cabanas when the sun got too hot. The pool bar and staff were excellent, very attentive and friendly. No shortage of beds or beach towels. 2 rooftop jacuzzis with views over to the neighbouring island of Fuertaventura and out to the sea - lovely to sit and relax in, one warm and one cooler.

The coffee and cakes served every day were a welcome indulgence and the complimentary bar from 6-9 was excellent too. Premium branded spirits and mixers, cava, beer, soft drinks you name it. We thoroughly enjoyed using that before dinner.

Dinner was buffet style and the choice was more than adequate - fresh meats, fish, salads, vegetables, pasta bar, desserts and fruit amongst some of the choices. We did opt to eat out a couple of nights at the marina and this too proved to be worthwhile also. Prices were reasonable, food tasty - our favourites were Lani's Grill and Afrodite Littly Italy.

We would also like to say a huge thank you too all the staff but especially Maria and Joanna for making our stay so successful and relaxing. The staff at Club Volcan also made it great too. So much so my parents have booked to come out for 2 weeks at the end of this month.

If your looking for a relaxing holiday in a fabulous hotel with added extras book Club Volcan at the Volcan Lanzarote Playa Blanca.

This holiday was booked by my wife as a Birthday treat for me.
Things got off to a great start with a private taxi transfer from the airport and a warm welcome at reception even though we arrived after 7-30pm.
We were shown to our room, which was exactly like the pictures, well presented and equipped, but we only had time to quickly unpack, freshen up and change before going for our first evening meal.
We were very disappointed with the food, although there was a varied choice nothing was hot, everything was only lukewarm and table service was somewhat slow, but the main thing was that despite the website, travel brochure and notices within the hotel saying Gentlemen must ware long trousers for evening meal there were people in shorts and trainers/sandals, things did not improve as the week went by!
Breakfast was a much better set-up with things being cooked to order, by far the best meals of our stay.
While awaiting the Thomas Cook Rep we witnessed the reception manager trying to deal with a problem and can only say he needs to improve his customer service, and then when we checked out he hardly looked at us, took the money and stamped/signed the paperwork all without any pleasantries whatsoever. I would suggest that he stayed in the backroom in future!
We chose to use the quiet pool and beds close to our room, but they were never cleaned and the bins/ashtrays were not always emptied, there seamed to be a shortage of basic staff!
Room service was without fault and looked after us very well except for restocking the tea and coffee making facilities and with only one bottle of water per guest on arrival.
On the Friday evening we were invited to a management meet and greet event for a glass of cava, which was a waste of time so we went to dinner early but the food was no better/hotter.
We were very much restricted on the Saturday evening as they had a wedding party taking over much of the terrace restaurant but on the plus side the volcano was illuminated with lava flows (but for the one night only!)
The service at the bars was very much hit and miss with opening times not overlapping so you had to get your timings right.
Outside in the Rubicon Marina area half the shops etc. were closed and the bars and restaurants were very quiet to say the least, don’t know if this was a September or Recession thing!
All in all we did not feel that this was anywhere near a 5* hotel, more of a second rate 4* at best.
Not good value for money in any way.

This was our first time to Playa Blanca and we feel we hit the jackpot with the Hotel Volcan. On arrival you can't but be impressed by the amazing entrance area. Reception staff gave us a great, friendly welcome and were very helpful. We went for the bed and breakfast option and a standard room. The room was spacious, clean and more than adequate in every way. We also had a small patio area with table and chairs with a nice view.
The breakfast buffet was amazing - it had something to suit all tastes, even a selection specifically for coeliacs. Great freshly cooked omelettes, lots of fresh fruit, eggs any way you like, meat, fish and cheese area, pastries, great selection of breads etc etc...
Poolside menu was very good and everything was freshly made to order.
Evening dinner buffet again had a huge selection and was great value at €20 each. Pace yourself!! We dined twice in Kazan, the Japanese restaurant. Great teppanyaki chef and both meals were fantastic.
Wide variety of top class restaurants literally just outside the hotel complex in the marina area.
Recommend having a pre-dinner cocktail in the little bar beside reception. With luck you will be served by the ever smiling Pedro who makes great Ernest Hemingways and Martinis.
We stayed early September and were amazed that even though the hotel was fully booked we never had a problem getting a place at one of the many pools. My wife loved taking part in the daily activities (aguafit, Zumba, Pilates.........). I even managed a couple of sessions in the gym.
Make sure you get to the managers reception on Friday at 7pm - a good way of meeting the staff and other guests while enjoying complimentary drinks.
There was no problem getting a late check out as our flight was at 8pm.
All round a really enjoyable holiday and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: A room with a view over the marina would be really nice.

Just back from The Volcan. Have stayed at various hotels in Playa Blanca and thought we would try somewhere different. We selected a bed and breakfast upgrade to Club Volcan and think we got it absolutely spot on.
The Club area is adult only, its pretty quiet (maybe a bit too quiet) but it has its own pool, which is hardly used. The breakfast is cooked to order and the best foreign breakfast ever. Must mention the fantastic service by Joel, Christina and Bea. Afternoon tea with gorgeous cakes and then drinks in the evening until you venture out to eat somewhere in the marina area, with loads of places to choose from.
The area around the pool not only had sunbeds but also about 12 timber hut beds, fantastic for lazing out of the sun
The main hotel looks a bit in need of some tlc, and certainly doesn't warrant 5*. But when we checked in (by Raf) nothing was too much trouble. We had a late flight home and they organised a free room for us with no problem at all despite being very busy with a wedding. First rate service.
Our advice if you stay here is to go B&B and upgrade to Club Volcan.

Room Tip: Best rooms seem to be level 6 or 7

just returned from a relaxing week at this hotel. perfect location, opposite the marina and set in lovely gardens with great pool area. rooms were enormous but need to book a high level room to appreciate the view across the marina and sea. spent relaxing evenings on the balcony enjoying the view and the wine. (room 506) standard and garden rooms ideal if you have problems with steps but may not have good views. meals were excellent - we intended to eat out a few evenings but enjoyed the meals at the hotel.breakfast buffet geat and evening buffet had great choice and there was no queueing at all. nothing like school dinners!! large selection of salads, carvery, pasta station, grill area with choice of meat or fish. good choice of vegetables, breads, cheeses and cakes, crepes and ice-creams. We did have a stroll around the marina and there are nice restaurants and bars, some with live music - blue note, lanis and Vino Blanco. Nice tapas bar overlooking marina - La Taberna- can feed the enormous fish from here. Found all the staff friendly and helpful - even housekeepers said Aloa each time you past. there is a smaller pool at the top of the garden area and this is where we sunbathed. it was very peaceful and there was never a problem getting a sunbed - even after coming back from the market at 1pm. Not many people stayed in the hotel on an evening, only a singer 3 nights but no audience or atmosphere. usual activities during the day - yoga, pilates etc and mini club for children. It is about 25 min walk along the sea front into Playa Blanca - ok if you want the usual cheap meals, bars and t-shirt shops and also can get ferry from Playa Blanca to Fuertuventura.

Room Tip: higher floors have best views. e-mail hotel and ask for this.

Agree totally with the previous 2 report's! Just returned from a 2wk stay through Thomas Cook, 4 adults and two teenage kids, Unsure where to start so will list the good's and bad. Don't book if you are looking for a 5* Deluxe, it isn't this at all, all the local canarian's themselves say it is no more than a 3*.
Best part of hotel is the pool area, huge pool, nice and fresh! Although daily debris not cleared around or in pool!
Breakfast is fab! Everything and anything ! Cava, Bacon, freshly cooked eggs, hot pastries, friouts, cereals, toast, cold meats the lot - really could not fault this. Most people swipe things from Buffet and make up there lunches ! Lovely views of the beautiful Marina from various parts of the hotel, sadly not from our rooms !
Best location in Playa Blanca by far, wonderful restuarant's by Marina, much better than further down into main town.
Weather glorious with cool breeze. We hired a sailing boat with skipper for 4hrs at 3oo euros and was our hilight of holiday, truly wonderful.
Bad points (apologies if you are yet to travel)
Rooms all different, DONT book standard rooms, we over-looked a brick wall with posts and had no view at all!!! Asked to upgrade, was told 33euros per night per room but none available! One room had curtains hanging off rail, broken patio door unable to lock, no hairdryer, no mirror or dressing table, very very poor hence no way 5*- we r convinced it was a courtesy room!
Staff- well apart from the odd few, most incredibly rude, unwilling or uninterested in helping and all had faces like thunder! Reception staff however fine. On asking for a drink or help, often, we where looked at and ignored to the point of them being ignorant! Evening meal crap! no other word, was like lining up for a school dinner not at a 5* buffet! Food average but that is it, not a nice experience, ended up eating out most of the time, waste of money half-board as not a pleasant experience. We booked our rooms and requested 5th floor due to supposed good views, after 10minute hike n many steps we where all shattered. Would request ground floor for easy access especially if u have children. Spanish seemed to get preferencial treatment by far. Mention of 4 restuarants - huh! joke ! One main buffet, 2 u can use at marina on the most awful basic set menu u would have ever seen and Japanese on complex, alway empty and with a 20% discount off full price !!!! Entertainment consisted of same women singing 4 times a week, just with a different theme (spanish, 60's etc) !!!! If u read any comments about un-reserved sunbeds, ignore ! Utter nightmare, most gone by 8am !!!
We all felt so let down by this hotel, u really dont get what you pay for, we have stayed at much better 4* and poss 3* hotels in the past.
Such a shame as has much potential !!!

Room Tip: pay for seaview or if booking standard, request ground floor, pool view.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the volcan, along with my husband and 16 yrs old son.
The volcan is a lovely hotel to chill for a week .
The reception staff were lovely and 1st impression was 5*,but there were small things that the hotel failed in .
The restaurant is a nice setting and the food was good especially the breakfasts but the evening meals were repetitive and we found that the staff in the restaurant were slow to serve drinks an clear plates .on our last day there were ants on the table and I feel the restaurant could have been cleaner!
The toilets near to the pool were also dirty with no soap in dispensers!!!

On the plus side ,the rooms were spacious ,and clean with good facilities and we were treated to chocolates and champagne because it was our silver wedding

If you want a quiet hotel ,with very little entertainment and 4 * !!!! Service ,this hotel is for you

This luxury five star hotel, the Hotel Volcan Lanzarote, has a prime location on the seafront and together with the "Marina Rubicon" yachting harbour it constitutes a tourist resort in the southern part of the island - an area that forms part of the UNESCO's "World Network of Biosphere Reserves". The hotel is located just 10 km from the Timanfaya National Park, 900 metres from the picturesque fishing village of Playa Blanca, where you will find shopping centres, bars and restaurants, and just 30 minutes from the International Airport of Arrecife. Andres Pineiro, the chief architect of the project, chose a design based on a complex of classical buildings that are a true reflection of the typical architectural style of the island. The design of the hotel is reminiscent of a typical village of Lanzarote, with romantic patios, traditional courtyards and secluded spots, together with the magnificent hotel entrance which is a replica of the Teguise church of "Ntra.
