“Loved Sa Bassa Rotja”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

I have just returned from a trip to Mallorca with my partner and spent 4 nights at Sa Bassa Rotja Hotel. I was looking for peace, tranquillity and beautiful surroundings in which to chill out and unwind, and that's exactly what I got - jackpot! The hotel has history and character and is situated well off the beaten track in spacious and well kept grounds. There are spa facilities on site which I didn't use, but was told were excellent (by another guest). The outdoor pool area was spacious and quiet. This is not an 'adults only' hotel, but the few children that were around, were well behaved and quiet. The other guests were predominantly German - apparently this area of Mallorca isn't on the Brits radar. All the staff were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. Buffet breakfast was included and was plentiful and varied. Dinner/lunch was available at the restaurant for those who wished to eat in. If you are looking for clubs, bars and entertainment, this is not the place for you. If you are coming here, you will need a hire car due to it's remote position. For me, this hotel was blissful and I would be very happy to return again.

I stayed here for 3nights in august, i was looking for peace and quiet and time by myself away from husbands and kids just to lay in the sunshine in fab surroundings and read and write.

From the moment the taxi driver swung into the driveway which is walled and linned with palm trees you get the sense of being somewhere special.

The property is simply stunning everyday i noticed something i hadn't the day before.

The bedroom was cool, refreshing and a great place to rest and sleep with every amenity you needed, the water pressure is no longer an issue as they have installed new pumps so dont be put off by that.

The Pool area was quiet and calm and the beds were not the plastic ones seen in the photos on other sites, but nice metal ones that were really comfy and the towels the hotel provides in reception for you are lovely quality soft and fluffy.

I didnt eat lunch at the hotel as i topped up with breakfast and then a great evening meal which far surpassed normal hotel food but was restaurant quality and the waiters, David and his crew were great there was always a table for one reserved for me and they remembered my preferences for wine after the one meal, which made it all that bit more relaxing and special.

I Had two spa treatments at the hotel which again i couldn't fault, both really good ive not had treatments like them before and it was a nice change to be smothered in oils and be made to totally relax, rather than have a run of the mill back massage like you can get anywhere anytime.

This hotel and its staff are top notch if you want somewhere to unwind and chill, i couldnt think of a more perfect place. Thanks Sa Bassa you totally filled what i was after in a short break :)

It hurts to give this place a bad review. The room was adorable with a great view of the vineyard and the woman who checked us in was very nice. If that was the sole judging criteria I would give this place a 5.

However, the hotel earns its low review due to the maid service and water pressure.

The main reason for the low rating was the water pressure. Lots of issues here. The shower typically had low water pressure which we could deal with. However two mornings the water actually cut out during a shower and only dribbled back on 15 minutes later. Only on one of the days had actually hot water, the other three days consisted of lukewarm showers despite only having the hot faucet running. Adding the cold water faucet increased water pressure but moved the water temperature from lukewarm to frigid. Additionally the toliet did not seem to want to flush more than one time within any 30 minute period so bathroom usage had to be timed accordingly. Not something we wanted to deal with on our vacation. We stayed in the main building so I don't know if they experienced the same type of problems in the bungalows.

The maid service was okay but there were a couple of issues. One day a large bundle of used towels was left in the room. Another day no extra toliet paper was provided even though we were near the end of the roll. We also did not receive replacement coffee or water for the length of our stay- one bottle of water and one instant coffee was all that was provided for our four day stay (in all fairness to the hotel we probably could have asked the front desk to replace these items but did not). Nothing major but it did not match the quality of the room or the customer service we had received at check-in.

The hotel itself was lovely and the grounds were beautiful. The staff spoke English almost fluently and were very accomodating. One other comment I would add is to be aware that the hotel breakfast costs extra. We misunderstood at check-in and thought the breakfast was included in our hotel price rather than being an additional charge. Because of the isolated location we probably would have eaten breakfast there anyways, but it would just have been nice to know ahead of time. Breakfast was pretty good, buffet style with an eggs-made-to-order station- very yummy scrambles! I would recommend skipping dinner at the restaurant as it was fairly pricey and the food was just okay.

We would only consider staying here again if they did a major overhaul on the water system.
