“Fantastic Hotel - Can't be faulted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2005

We stayed in the Fuerte Conil for a weekend at the end of July 2005. The price was very reasonable, at 157 euros per night, including breakfast, which seemed good as it was peak season.

The whole hotel was spotless and our room was perfect. The room had a small, comfortable balcony that faced the sea. Bathroom was again spotless. TV was very good with SKY News, BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC 3 and BBC World as well as Spanish and German TV stations, so I believe would cater for all. The rest of the hotel was excellent so didn't spend much time in our room.

The pool area was fantastic with a baby pool and main swimming pool complete with bridge and palm tree in the centre. Again, this whole area was very clean. There's a small shop selling, beer, drinks and ice cream too. Get out early to reserve your sunbed as by around 12pm they were all just about taken. There is direct access to the fantastic beach, about 5 - 10 minute walk.

Meals were very good, breakfast was fine with all the usual offered. We had the buffett for dinner, which while a little expensive at 23.50 euros, was worth it. Plenty to choose from so no need to go hungry! Only gripe here is that you cannot order a single glass of wine, but seems can only order a bottle. Cost use 14.95 euros but worked out ok in the end and managed to finsh it.

The hotel seemed to cater well for children as there was a Club Fuerte for kids between 4 and 14 years old, and they had activities all day long. We had our 1 year old daughter with us, so was a little young to join the club, but she had a great time in the baby pool.

If diving is your things they have a PADI dive centre and full health spa.

Night time was fine with some live music and the bar was nice to grab a drink and relax in.

We would most definatly return to this hotel in the future and reccommend to any one else!

I found the hotel ideal for beach vacation given its location at the wide Fontanella beach and various leisure and sports activities, eg organized bike rides or horse riding or diving trips and Conil village is in walking distance. The clientel, mostly German and English, still maintains a minimum level of style, for example people usually do not show up in shorts and t-shirt for dinner. Meals are presented in buffet form - found quality and variety of food excellent, good wines; as hotel was probably only filled to 70% dining atmosphere was not too buzzing. Compared to the size of the house, the outdoor pool size is relatively small, but no problem to anyone who prefers the sea waters. Staff is friendly throughout, especially when you command some Spanish though everyone understands English and/or German to varying degrees.

Just a 2 night break to see what it was like. Firstly the garden and poolside area is the best feature of this hotel. From the reception you can see the Atlantic and around the pool there are some lovely palms and plenty of green areas to sunbathe.
We had a faulty AC unit in our room which spoilt our first night and eventually we were moved to another one. The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. They promote the use of the right type of pillow and offer 4 types ! Our TV remote did not work properly.
The town is within easy walking distance and this was useful because unless you were part of a 'package' tour, you could feel a bit out numbered in the evening in the dining room. It was very much a group holiday destination, mainly Germans flown in by Thomas Cook. Jerez airport is very busy with charters from Germany these days. There is a small restaurant near the pool but this was closed in the evening otherwise it would have been potentially nicer.

This is a 4-star holiday resort mainly visited by Germans, Spanish and British (no troublemakers!). A big breakfast buffet is included, the diner (buffet) isn't cheap (23 €), but the quality and the big variety are worth the price. Meat, tortillas and other stuff are even made in front of your eyes.
The personell is friendly and polite, the guys at the reception speak English and German besides Spanish.
The hotel has only three floors due to the local policy and fits smoothly into the town's architecture. The rooms are big enough for a pleasant stay and are nicely equipped (also modern TV set, minibar and internet access). The hotel was opened only at beginning of 2004. The pool has a decent size, there is also a small pool for infants and one to hang in your feet and cool down.
They have a Spa and a small gym (really small), a pool bar and a cocktail bar with shows.
The atlantic ocean can be seen from all rooms (most of them with lateral view), there are big balconies.
The rooms are quiet, they have carpets outside the rooms to reduce noise. Furthermore the hotel is located a five minute walk away from the town, so no annoying noise of cars and bikes.
The beach is about 150 m underneath the hotel and connected to the hotel by a path. Other than at Costa del Sol you find nice sandy beaches there at Costa de la Luz, enough space for all.
If you don't like to dine at the hotel you sure find alternatives in the small tipical Andalusian town of
Conil. Next to this hotel there is another hotel of the same company called Hotel Fuerte Conil (also 4 stars).
Hire a car to cruise along the coast and to visit Jerez, Cádiz, Tarifa or Gibraltar, all quite close.

It's a very nice hotel that I highly recommend. I would enjoy going there again.

Situated next door to the Hotel Fuerte Conil, owned by the same chain, this hotel opened its doors in spring 2004.
There are three outdoor pools (including one for kids) and an indoor one. At the time we were there (Sep 2004) the hotel was not full, and there were plenty of loungers availalble around the pools, although whether this would be true at the hight of the season I cannot say. But if you do not fancy the pool, the hotel is just a couple of minutes from an enormous beach (stretching away several kilometres in either direction), with plenty of space for everybody.
The rooms are spacious and have all the usual facilities expected in a 4star hotel, and all have balconies.
Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style. Dinner, at EUR 22.00 a head ( + drinks), is not particularly cheap and, even though it is a buffet, tends to get rather repetitive. The hotel restaurant is geared to northern European eating times and closes at 10 pm, when most Spaniards are just about thinking of going out to dinner. There are however several alternative restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood (the Fontanella on the beach is recommended) while, if you care for the 15-minute walk, Conil itself has a wide range of different eateries to suit all purses, with offers ranging from tapas to pizzas, from shellfish to steaks; and most of them serve meals at any time from 6pm to midnight.
Formerly a small fishing port, Conil is by no means a charming or attractive town but it is popular with Spanish families and, increasingly, with people from Germany. (In fact, German is the hotel's second working language after Spanish - but don't worry, most of the staff can speak English as well.) This makes for a quiet resort for families and couples looking for peaceful relaxation rather than a hectic nightlife. The noisiest thing we had to contend with was the roar of the Atlantic surf crashing on the beach a couple of hundred metres away. Would we go back? You bet we will!

We are a lawyer and a counsellor from England, and have stayed at the Fuerte Conil on two summer holidays of about two weeks each (2001/2002) with our 12/13 year old daughter.

This is a very attractive hotel, finished to a high standard. The rooms are comfortable and very well maintained and clean. Ours had a good size balcony with magnificent sea views. The public areas are stylish and spacious.

The hotel is only a few years old, built in an interesting medley of Andalucian styles, forming three sides around well maintained gardens which are terraced towards the sea. The pools are attractive with plenty of grassy areas and free sunbeds and mattresses. The fantastic beach of La Fontanilla is a five minute walk from the bottom of the walled gardens. There are good chiringuitos (beach restaurants) along the beach, and the hotel has its own sunbeds/umbrellas (for an extra charge). Cadiz is a hidden gem of a city to visit.

Breakfasts are excellent – huge buffet - and can be taken on the terrace or inside the dining room. Evening entertainment of local amateur flamenco singers/dancers. Conil de la Frontera about a 15 minute walk away – attractive lively traditional town, but now quite busy with tourists in the summer. Most tourists in this area are still Spanish, which makes it more attractive for us.

Our only disappointment with the hotel when we stayed is that there was no a la carte restaurant open in the evenings. The only options were a buffet (impressive, but sometimes it is nice to sit down and be served) or a limited bar menu. Consequently if you wanted a conventional sit-down meal you had to go into town or down to one of the beach restaurants. We were surprised that a hotel of this quality did not have a separate conventional restaurant in addition to the buffet. Having said that the food was very good.

This really is a very attractive hotel.
