“cheap with nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

FOOD Cook needs only a whisk for moose, a scissors for frozen veg packs and oven gloves for the breadcrumbs on " turkey" and someone to make sure the cake is defrosted. He/she must be a frustrated cook not to be able to budget of prepare nice food. As a former head cook I'd be so angry at the waste of my skills just opening frozen packs and mixing moose and jelly day in day out. Scrambled eggs beans frankfurters Breakfast. "Turkey" in breadcrumbs burnt or pork or fish always with the boiled potatoes in, so couldnt have boiled spuds, bits of chicken veg fries salad moose, jelly defrosted cake and nice apples and pairs for dinner/lunch.
ROOMS Hot showers and baths 11 engilsh TV Channels Good heaters Towels changed when needed loo rolls to. Fridge for drinks milk for tea etc. Dated bit did the job.
POOLS indoor Cool not hot. Outdoor cleaned everyday.
SNACKS Stone cold burgers fries hot dogs at SET TIMES Ice cream at set times.Nice clean dinning and snack areas spotless
PACKED LUNCH Old stale bead no butter ham slapped in and cheese in another So embarrassing for someone to serve, let alone a kitchen worker fed to fish.
STAFF Amazing lady and young guys behind bar So friendly and helpful and at the games room Also marvellous on reception.
LOCATION Ideal for families for a beach holiday. Local buses to Albuferia and Lisbon from outside the hotel. MARINA at the top lovely area. Sadly graffitti everywhere.
NIGHTMARE ENGLISH OAP's with Hommer Simpson mentality rude to staff drunk lumps of lard mocking people so sad ... Abusing staff on departure waking all hotel up!!.no life or interests I guess only food and booze.zzzz.
Spanish 400 plus children arrived on friday Loud Noise Manners at a loss However, perhaps we got it WRONG They where Families extended granparents kids grankids all together eating and drinking. Seldom do this happen in England How many nan's and mams are alone this Exmas? How many extended families share holidays? I think they have the right life. We went to Restaurante O BAROE amazing ENGLISH AND PORTUGUESE FOOD £9 for a luscious rump Leg of lamb etc. By Red Lion at the side down steps Food so amazing.
PLEASE FEED THE STRAY CATS LOVELY ANIMALS NEEDING FOOD.

Room Tip: Room 112 had the sun most of the day easy to access on first floor overlooking the pool.

We have just returned from an all inclusive week at this hotel big and a bit dated, could do with more fresh towels, staff helpful and pretty friendly. great location ,beach great! Weather was beautiful,
To be honest not that bad, but gets some really rough people due to price ??? they are like locusts on the food, if it was served would be better as they could not slop everything in sight onto a plate, it was really off putting. Eating out is cheap with lots of choice and cheap, no probs self catering here

Room Tip: pool views in block 1 have lovely winter sunshine

After reading the reviews prior to our cheap week away, we didn't have overly high expectations - and as it turned out it wasn't all that bad!
Travelling as a couple for a cheap week in the sun (£450 all inclusive for us both), it would be foolish to expect the Ritz.
The hotel could do with a refurb, although the common areas are ok. The bar area is pleasant enough, but not overly inviting - seating presumably designed so you don't stay too long!
The restaurant is again, pleasant enough although don't expect gourmet food - guess the mystery meat was a popular game for us! There was usually plenty to eat albiet a limited choice, however if you don't mind chips, pasta or rice with everything you'll not go hungry. Not much in the way of fresh veg - an impressive method of making brocolli and carrotts a very special shade of grey!
Lunch and dinner were pretty much the same choices however breakfast was terrible - cold scrambled egg (although proper egg rather than powdered), with cold beans and hotdog sausages. You could warm it up in the microwave provided but we'd recomend heading out to Mariano's for a decent start to your day.
The snack bar has time restrictions which aren't clear until you arrive (all inclusive snacks only available between 11am and midday, then between 3pm and 4pm). Again limited choice of hotdog, burger, cheeseburger or chips. You can have icecream but again only at specified times - the freezers are locked at all other times!!
The pool area is adequate - in need of some updating or a thorough clean. Sunbeds are charged for at €1 per day - pay it, its the only time you'll be vaguely comfortable!
The rooms are quite sizable, although lacking in anything approaching comfort, and not overly clean. The bathrooms are dingy, but, the water is hot and the shower is powerful.
The beds are all singles and are made from a piece of board under a very thin mattress -and creak very loudly at any movement you make - if you're a light sleeper I'd suggest sleeping on the sofa!
The cleaning staff leave a lot to be desired - the cleaner visited whilst I was in the room - a cursory mop of the kitchen area and the bin emptied - that was it!
All that said, it's functional, pretty decent weather, and for a last minute cheap deal, you can't complain. Would we go back? Unlikely, but if it were a choice of a week there or a week at work in winter I'd be back on the plane!

Room Tip: Not near the lifts!

I recently returned from a week in the Algarve with my husband. The weather in late October was lovely and we were out sunbathing every day. We booked a studio apartment but instead we were given a large spacious 1 bed apartment with a kitchen, dining area and lounge. We were all-inclusive however the food was very poor and the meals were often cold. Some of the guests complained but there was no improvement. We found a couple of the male receptionists very unhelpful. The hotel charged extra for use of sun loungers, parasols, and use of games in the games room and printing off airport confirmation (which I felt was a rip off!). The hotel was definitely a hit with families and teenagers. The hotel is in a good location and minutes from the town. We ate out most days and the bars and restaurants in the area offered a very tasty 3 course deals. Praia Da Rocha has a beautiful beach however, I wouldn’t return to the area as the effects of the crisis meant excursions were cancelled last minute and we found a number of shops closed down in nearby towns. It was a real shame.

Got a bit of negative reviews here, I think if you want 4/5 star then you have to pay more. The price we paid overall we think we got a great deal, yes it is bit tired and dated, food was fine and staff friendly good location and pools etc were clean and tidy. Overall it's what we expected for a cheaper break and we had a good time, very nice resort, not much on evening this time of year in hotel but other guests friendly so overall good just don't expect luxury

Room Tip: We chose sunny pool side this time of the year

This hotel needs a total makeover the pool area is so bad and untidy and old the rooms are large but have a very small tv and a wall unit that have seen better days. the hotel only offers single beds and the bathroom is dated and bodged up like the rest of the hotel.. But the staff are very friendly and the food is not bad, meat and fish evening meals but basic food at all meal time Good soup but we only paid £200.00 for a week all inclusive. so cheap and but only a 2* hotel at best that needs money spent on it. Bar was ok but the Splash bar next door was great.so try it jose is a good man

Room Tip: Change hotel
