Have just returned from a week at this Hotel. We have never been to Portugal before so didnt really know what to expect. As we were going in couples we chose all inclusive! We arrived around 11pm, went straight to the bar and were met by the smell of rotten eggs or stink bombs. The smell lingered all night and hence turned out to appear constantly throughout the week. My husband and I were on floor 4 and our room cant have had anything done to it since it was built. It was rotten. The wall had obviously had a leak from above previously and was covered in mould with the paint hanging off. The bathroom was stinking. The top bed cover had mildew marks on it. Our room didnt get cleaned all week. Someone obviously came in throughout the day as we had a new toilet roll each day (we had around 8 before leaving just piled up on the cistern). The food was the worst i have ever seen. The menu is the same each day. Sprouts, mash and some sort of fish, chicken and pork. Breakfast was gross. The only thing we ate all week was toast, boiled egg or a roll from the snack bar and fresh tomatoes (these were the only things they couldnt do anything to). There is a constant smell of what i can only describe as fish and it honestly made me heave every time i walked anywhere near the restaurant. We had chips and curry sauce the first night from the little chippy around the corner and the paper was still in the bin when we left. When we went in from the pool one day we had water leaking on to the cooker from the room above. The cooker rings consisted of a red felt pen drawing on the wall with the numbers one to six so that you would know where to turn the dial! We had cockroaches in our cupboards. There were pieces of rubbish on the stairs for a week. I didnt once see a cleaner or maid. It didnt bother us but you can have certain drinks until after 8pm on all inclusive so unless you like lager or wine you have had it! The only good thing i can say is that the situation is ideal, really central and the beaches and restaurants around really are fantastic - ideal for what we wanted. I honestly have anything positive to say about the place. Our friends on floor one and they did have a slightly better room but the same goes for them even though it was slightly cleaner it was still in need of modernisation and a good clean. The snack bar area is never cleaned and there are flies everywhere where plates of food are left hanging about where people are too lazy to put them in the bins provided. To me it seemed an ideal place for people who just wanted to drink cheap lager and wine from first thing in the morning until last thing at night. Then you obviously dont care what the food or your room is like. There is a hotel across the road which has been closed down and we later found out that this was the previous Club praia da rocha and appeared on Holidays from Hell. The way this one is going unless they seriously buck up their ideas they will be appearing on there again. I wouldnt go there if they paid me and i really mean that. Please think how desperate you are for a holiday before you book this Hotel. i read a few reviews after booking as someone said it was awful to me and a people were saying that it was improving under new ownership. Well I dread to think what it was like under the last ownership.
