“Excellent Holiday as always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We have just returned from our 10th visit to this excellent hotel and as always had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The staff at this hotel are amazing, helpful and recognise us each time. We are given lovely rooms which are clean and well looked after and the domestic staff are very good. The food is excellent and always of a good quality (no tummy problems here) and The Belmondo restaurant near by is 1st class. The hotel has a fantastic location and the pool and garden area is beautifully clean and well maintained, this hotel has everything for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, most have a good view and are very clean and comfortable. Upgrades are somet...

Good value hotel , we choose this hotel as we were playing golf on the Pestana golf courses and this hotel was within minutes of them all. Good sizes rooms with seperate bedroom (didnt like single beds pushed together but think its standard )lounge and kitchenette plus bathroom . Our view was not good looking out on concrete roof so would specify to have better view we were on 3rd floor. Staff were very nice and helpful .Pool was good and no problem with sun loungers , we were there early October. I also used the spa had a really good message and facial one and half hours for 80 euro excellent and lovely girl who owns the spa. Found lovley Italian restaurant nearby and lots of lovely places in nearby villages, you would definitely need to hire a car . Good value for the price we paid.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for room with a sea view

First visit to the Pestana Viking. Staff very helpful and very pleasant. There is free wi-fi in the reception area, but only for 30 minutes. Very good restaurant but a bit expensive if every meal is taken. Loved the pool area, lots a grass and plenty of sun umbrellas. Easy to walk out of the back of the hotel down to the beach.

We found a small restaurant 100 metres up the road which served a good range of reasonably prices meals and snacks. There is a a free shuttle bus provided every day at 10.10am to go to Pera. Make certain you register the night before, as they take those registered first and come back for the rest. You could wait a while. We really liked Armacao Pera for shopping and some good restaurants.

Room Tip: Always get a room facing the sea

Just come back from another visit to the Pestana viking, this time we had taken our family including 2 grand children, All I can say it was great yet again, las time we said it was good but this time it was better, the staff were really helpful and friendly, the evening barman Rui recognised us straight away which is always nice.
Rooms were clean and spacious, maids really good.
Breakfast was good, although were a little slow replenishing food, bowls and cups at times, but just ask and they were there. Hotel much busier than our last visit but it still did not feel busy, no problems getting sun beds or tables.
I would recommend this hotel for a quiet holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice and quiet but is worth paying a little extra for seaview rooms.

Having read previous reviews, we set out on this holiday with trepidation. However, we had no need to be anxious as the hotel staff, amenities and accommodation all proved to be fine. We were expecting a studio apartment, i.e. one room containing a bed, lounge area, kitchenette, dining area plus a bathroom but were pleasantly surprised to find we had a separate bedroom with en suite, a lounge, dining kitchen area and a visitor's cloakroom. We were on the 6th floor and the view from the balcony was lovely. The room was kept extremely clean by the maid who came in daily.

On the down side, the hotel itself does look a little jaded from the outside and the mattresses and pillows could certainly have been a little more luxurious but over all we had a lovely, relaxing holiday and the position of this hotel lends itself to being a good place to tour from, so I would recommend hiring a car and collecting it from the airport, so saving transfer charges.

Room Tip: A great view if you on the higher floors, facing the sea.

This was our first visit to the Algarve so we didn't know what to expect, however our stay (booked through Expedia) was comfortable and pleasant. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to a beach and there are three great beaches within ten minutes walk.

The room was of a decent size with a small kitchenette and a balcony facing the gardens. We stayed for nine days and could have done with more wardrobe space, but this was a small niggle, The bathroom was very nice and it was clear that the hotel (including the rooms) has recently been refurbished. The decor is modern, albeit lacking personality.

The pools were good, the gym was a bit basic and we didn't use the spa, so couldn't voucher for or against.

On a whole the hotel was good value for money, but there were a couple of niggles that we noted:

The breakfast;
Albeit it offered good variety it didn't seem to get replenished and would often run out of basic things like bread. The staff were very busy clearing away dirty plates, but seemed unable to perform other tasks than the one they were set to do. This, however, seems to be a recurrent theme everywhere we went (also outside the hotel) so perhaps that is just the service culture in Portugal?

The restaurant was average, but the Belmondo restaurant next to the hotel (and I believe it is part of the Pestana group) was good.

We had to rent the lock for a safe which is something I have never come across before and thought was a bit cheeky. Also there was no free wifi.

In terms of service it was fine, but it was clear that staff were not going out of their way to help. We dealt with one front desk receptionist who just walked off mid-conversation. The concierge was very helpful, but apart from her you got the feeling that most of the staff didn't exactly burn with passion for their work place.

Ultimately we got what we paid for, but if we were to come back we'd probably stay in the Pestana Appartment hotel next door.

First impressions are usually the decider for me when checking into a hotel, and I must say that the young receptionist that checked us in for a 9 night stay sold the hotel to me. She was very helpful and efficient.
We had booked with Jet2 a suite for the holiday, but the room was not what I considered a suite.
Basically we had a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a sitting /dining room with a two ring cooker, microwave and fridge and a toilet adjoining. We really weren't interested in cooking on holiday but that's maybe the Portugese suite.

The housemaid kept the room very clean each day and all communal areas were kept clean each day. the sea view from the room was nice, overlooking the pool and lounger area and sitting on the balcony at night sipping a gin and tonic watching the sunset was very pleasant.

The pool area was again kept clean and tidy, drinks were expensive from the pool bar but again with one exception the staff were friendly and helpful.
The afternoon pool sports seemed to be set up for the local youths, and they took over the pool for an hour along with loud music, basically residents couldn't use the pool. The no saving loungers with towels policy didn't seem to be enforced. people vanished for hours on end and the towels stayed put. The pool was salt water but a nice temperature and i noticed that the quality sampling was carried out regularly. The food in the pool area was good and varied each day.

The only meals we had was breakfast and a few pool side lunches, the breakfast was good and dishes were replaced quickly if coming empty. The fresh fruit was good and there was always a queue for the personally cooked omelette.

We didn't use any of he other facilities, the indoor pool was usually full of young children and not a option.
Wi-Fi was available in the reception and computers were available at reasonable rates.
I would suggest that the local bus timetables be available at reception as the hotel is a 5 Euro taxi ride from the town centre.

All in all a good hotel and staff very efficient and helpful.

As a General Manager for a hotel I feel competent to make the above remarks.
