“Fantastic location and very relaxing place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2011

We stayed at the hotel for 9 days. The rooms were clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Location great, with 2 beaches in walking distance and very good.
There is an Itailan resturant 10 mins walk away towards the main road Very Good worth a try. There is a fish resturant on the beach this was very good.
The hotel provides a free bus into the local town.
The pool outside was very cold, added bounus with a pool inside, with a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi.
Breakfast self service - this was ok.
The price of drinks and food expensive in the hotel. I would advise to eat out and go across the road to the bar that is open and lots cheaper!!

This was our third stay at the Viking Hotel in twelve months and we have never been disappointed. Although we did not stay in their most expensive room the standard is very good and having a small kitchenette area with microwave, crockery and cutlery is a big plus point. We like to be flexible in when and where we eat and this feature suits us very well. Staff are always pleasant and helpful and although the hotel was fairly busy the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. Looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed at Pestana Viking for one week in April 2011. The resort is very clean and the staff helpfull. Except some problems at the reception. We only had breakfast at the hotel, and it was fine. Everything we need was the. Especially the fresh sliced oranges where great. My husband plays golf and I wanted to de-stress at the hotel. By the pools, in the wellness and do some work out in the gym. It was NOT possible!!!! There where children everywhere and they were cyring and shouting ALL THE TIME!!!! Outside the noise cuold go up in the air, but indside the hotel is made of marble and the noise just build up. It was simply terrible! Even in the evening and late night in the bar - there were children beggin for more icecream og crying. The wellness and the gym is just beside the indoor pool-arena. This means that the wellness-department is VERY noisy and there are filled with kids in the gym. So, if you are travelling with children I can imagine Pestana Viking is great. But if you what to relax - go somewhere else!

The hotel was not a four star standard. It lacked character, more like a dorm than a hotel. The windows of our room and balcony were so dirty that you could not see out through them. The buffet was very expensive and dull so we ate out having tried it once, and you can eat better food at all the local restaurants more cheaply . The pool was constantly windy and not enough chairs were put out for the guests. We could never recommend this place, or Poches. Have stayed in MUCH BETTER Pestanas elsewhere.

In spite of not finding our room booking we were given a choice of rooms with a partial sea view . The rooms are very bright and even have a mini kitchen complete with microwave and a large fridge. Like another reviewer we brought food in from the supermarket and ate in the hotel one night. The hotel is superbly situated on a clifftop with good large pool and also good indoor pool and sauna etc. We hired a car which we found useful as the hotel is set on its own with only a few restaurants nearby and the decent -sized supermarket is about 1/2 mile away .If you do not book 1/2 board dinner is 24 Euros . Restaurants nearby are much cheaper. The buffet breakfast in the hotel is excellent.Lots of fruit ,different breads, eggs ,good bacon, sausage cheese etc etc
The staff are very friendly and give excellent service.
Overall good value for money on a bed and breakfast basis

We had booked a garden view room online, but when arrived we noticed that the room was a parking view one, very warm and noisy. Fortunately, the staff were so friendly and helpful that they changed it free of charge to a garden-partial sea view room.
The room was not very big, it could be better cleaned, but it had a kitchenette, which was very useful since we travelled with a baby.
The hotel was in a spectacular location , on a highcliff, with a wonderful view of the bay. The pool area was big and beautiful. Unfortunately, the hotel staff did not do anything to discourage people to reserve their sunbeds very early in the morning. At 10 o'clock it was already almost impossibile to finds two sunbeds!
The beach is few meters far from the hotel. It is very beautiful and well equipped.
The food at the dinner buffet in the hotel was good, but too expensive.
We suggest to go to the beach restaurant, it is definitely better. Forget the Italian restaurant nearby, it is too expansive, food is disappointing and NOT ITALIAN.
In conclusion, we had a pleasant stay at the Pestana Viking Hotel.

Pleasant and nice hotel set at Senhora da Rocha (near Armação Pera) on a cliff and overlooks the ocean which means nice views. It is now owned by a Portuguese group ( “Pestana” brand) and seems rooms to have had a refurbishment meaning improvement on quality. There is a small gym but quite new. The indoor pool is nice and an option for the pool in the garden which is a bit cooler (for me!). Hotel gardens (pool area) are also nice and the beach is short walking distance in a small bay but remember your hotel is in the cliff and so… back to the hotel will be a good cardio exercise. It is a small beach but there is also a bar restaurant available for lunch (fresh fish , salads, sandwiches,) Hotel staff works hard and is very professional and attentive looking genuine friendly. There is also a Spa which I did not use. For foreigners there is a shuttle to Armação Pera 3 times daily and beach towels also available and change daily too. There are restaurants within walking distance and some suites have microwave and fridge may be used as a small kitchen .. take away service in restaurants (namely pizzas) and taking advantage of good balconies seaview.
