“Nearly perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

Check list for a perfect stay:
- secure site with valet parking - check
- stunning grounds with ducks and swans and plants that release their fragrance in the evening - check
- multiple pools and a private section of the beach, all with sun loungers provided - check
- big, clean rooms with fab bathrooms, enormous beds and a private terrace - check
- friendly, welcoming staff without being overbearing - check
- free Wi-Fi
- good choice at breakfast, including sparkling wine - check

As you've probably guessed by now, we loved this place, although I do agree with some of the other reviewers that it is perhaps a little remote if you don't have a car.

The only downsides for us were that the bar was really expensive and we got the hard-sell at checkout to join their rewards club - left a bit of a bad taste after such a wonderful stay. But all in all we'd highly recommend this place.

We just returned from a ten day stay at the Vilalara and can agree with the majority of reviewers here - it really is a delightful hotel and we would have no hesitation in returning. The positioning of the hotel is excellent with a beautiful sandy beach, not too far from the centre of Pera, and the quality of the rooms is very good. We were especially impressed by the friendliness of the staff. An observation and one minor criticism, however: Firstly we thought the food choices were very limited inside the hotel, and extremely expensive. There is only one restaurant serving dinner and a more informal kitchen to prepare poolside lunch but with prix fixe dinner for two costing €86 for two and lunch averaging around €45 for two it isn't really an option to eat at the hotel every day (for us at least). We thought it was odd that there wasn't a cheaper alternative since the absence of cheaper options simply meant that we ate out more often, which surely wasn't the hotel's aim. The only criticism we could make was that because we had a late flight home we were offered bag storage and shower facilities (no late room check-out available) which proved less than easy. Bags are stored at reception but we were invited to shower and change at the Spa which is around a ten minute walk away. So we had to dig into our packed luggage to extract a change of clothing, carry everything to the spa (via the pool, therefore doing a good impersonation of a pair of refugees), then shower and walk back - by which time we were as hot as we had been when we started the process. My suggestion to the hotel would be to offer a locker at the spa to guests who are checking out from the morning of the day of their departure - that way we could have made arrangements for a change of clothing etc and would have been much less inconvenienced. But - it's a small point and, as I say, we would return to the hotel for another stay without hesitation.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the pool

If you're looking for a resort for a relaxing vacation in Algarve, the Vilalara Thalassa Resort is the perfect place. The service of the resort was outstanding! All of the staff were very helpful from the front desk, to restaurant, to room service to the lifeguards on the beach. This was the relaxing vacation we've been wanting and needing. There are three pools to select from...all had ample lounge chairs. There were also bed cabanas at the pool closest to the beach which was very relaxing to lounge in. Very easy access to the beach as well which is practically private as we only saw other fellow guests from Vilalara. The food was great as well. My fiance and I got the dinner package which was well worth it if you don't plan on going outside of the resort. And lastly, the spa was icing on the cake. I didn't have any issues booking a massage last minute during my 3-day stay. It was perfect to start of the relaxing weekend.

Remember to make a reservation to visit the caves! Best part of our trip, but wished we were able to park at one of the caves to take pictures and explore (waves were too big). You can make reservations with the lifeguards at the beach. Lastly, weather will break or make your trip as it was in the high 60's/low 70's Fahrenheit with wind when we went. Pool and ocean were too cold to dip into. Depending on the sun, we were able to do some sunbathing. Book when the weather is guaranteed to be warm!

I agree heartily with everything said by "Simon Templar 1967". Tranquil spot, great staff, terrific rooms, amazing gardens. We will return after nine restful nights. What else can I add? Well, cost is what reviewers tend to avoid. I hope this helps: Rack rate for junior suite by pool in early June is €350. We paid about €220 via Expedia for room and breakfast for two. (The hotel says if you ring direct they will do deals.) Because we never wanted to leave, another €100 a day was spent on snacks at lunchtime and dinner in the evening overlooking the bay. If the price does not make you blanch, then you will find no better hotel on the Algarve.

Outstanding resort in the heart of the Algarve. Service never surpassed and everything about this heavenly place exceeded my expectations. The rooms were large and comfortable, breakfast was sumptuous (omelettes, pancakes made to order in front of you), dinner excellent and staff at all times exemplary- the waiters and waitresses are a credit to this resort. Gardens were absolutely stunning as were the "chill out" beds strategically placed with sea views. This was a 5 star experience- please ignore those who are saying anything negative about this fantastic place- it's aim is that you have a relaxing holiday in a heavenly location and it ticked every box - obrigado!!!

This place is simply stunning. It really is paradise, and is a credit to each and every person who works there. They work so hard at keeping the place beautiful and it is a joy to witness them obviously taking such pride in it.
I don't usually write reviews but the reason I'm writing this particular one is that I fell ill during my time here, unfortunately, which was unexpected and quite scary. As soon as I phoned the front desk, the doctor at the spa saw me straight away. His kindness and concern, and the kindness and genuine concern of all who took care of me that day (someone from the spa escorted me to hospital) exceeded my expectations, it was simply second to none. The doctor was reassuring, caring, thorough and went above and beyond his job to ensure I was ok. I am so grateful to them not only for making sure I was ok (and the front desk continued to check how I was feeling afterwards) but for how kind, attentive, and genuinely caring they were. It's true that this is an expensive place, but I don't think money can buy hospitality. The staff here are genuinely fantastic. If you worry about being 'out of your comfort zone' when abroad, then don't be. You are looked after from the moment you step into the hotel, to the second you leave. Fantastic.

Nice hotel with a great breakfast. Hotel staff were excellent. Bit disappointed none of the outdoor pools were heated in April as it was a bit too cold for swimming in the sea. Beach was the highlight of our visit. The surrounding gardens are also well worth a walk around.

Little disappointed the place didn't have more eco features such as low energy lighting etc. Also, a bit expensive compared to some other places for the off season.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the recently refurbished rooms.
