“Elegant and Peaceful. A Gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

The location is very unique and the first class staff will also make you feel unique. Every detail has received lots of attention and is done with taste : the food, the rooms, the garden, the pools, the spa. This is a very relaxing and beautiful place and the staff was very professional and attentive to all my needs. I highly recommend it, It is a gem.

A really beautiful hotel that, despite its spacious grounds and 111 rooms, still feels small, friendly and intimate.

On arrival my wife and I were welcomed warmly but quietly, and quiet it stayed for the entire week. The hotel is actually made up of multiple buildings and areas connected by gently winding and twisting cobbled roads and pathways, cut between simply stunning and immaculately kept gardens bursting with colour and variety – enough to keep surprising you throughout the week. If your wife has packed a number of ludicrously high and expensive heels to wear to dinner (for example), you can order up a chauffeur driven golf buggy to get you down to dinner. Or, say your wife has had too much to drink at dinner (for example), you can order a buggy to get back to your room. Given the distances involved between some of the rooms and the other facilities (3 pools, good spa, pricey restaurant, modern-ish bar etc.), this service is worth noting for those less mobile. And with steep steps down to the lovely private beach and a steady climb to the spa area, be aware that you may find yourself puffing at times as you get around.

Despite fables of the town being just 10 minutes away it’s actually a 30 minute stiff walk up and down hills, and not that rewarding when you get there. Certainly if you’re lucky enough to be staying somewhere as classy as VilaLara there won’t be much to tempt you in town, save perhaps for a couple of well reviewed restaurants. There are quite a few cheaper eateries closer by, which might cost you 30 Euros a head instead of the 60 Euros you’ll probably spend at the hotel after you include a bottle of wine. But the extra money will buy you a very creative menu plus great sea and pool views from a wraparound balcony, enveloped in lush surroundings with no other buildings visible – oh, and really superb staff who were totally on it throughout our stay.

No kids in the last week of May, which was great, and we are told that you don’t even get that many in the summer. Clientele are apparently a mix of mainly French, German and English couples. The mood is quiet and I would say classy, without being stuffy. No jeans at dinner! Breakfast is a buffet affair, but very good and with heaps of choice, both healthy and not so.

We really liked the place a lot and will probably go back. It’s posh without advertising the fact, and classy without seeming to try. So, not pretentious but definitely upmarket. Vila Vita Parc is next door and we’ve stayed there too, but it’s a somewhat different proposition. Both are very good. Next time . . . ? VilaLara again I think.

Room Tip: All rooms are suites - is there a bad one?

This resort hotel is a real gem ! The loaction on the cliff is fantastic, the architecture and the interior designs are remarkable. Very individual and tasteful design everywhere, very pleasant, not overdesigned. The spacious set up with lovely gardens is really nice.
We where happy about the very individual service (super friendly and professional), the very good resatuarnt, the rooms and the great pool just above the private beach.
Highly recommended !

We spent Easter at this great place. We had the jr suite with garden view. Huge bathroom and outdoor lounge terrace. There are several pool areas with comfy beds to relax. The fitness was small but nice and several fitness classes were offered. We did not book any spa treatments but did go to the sauna and steambath which is free for guests.
The restaurant and bar are beautiful with great design pieces and ocean views. Breakfast was great with lots of choices incl local champaign. All staff were very service oriented and friendly. We did not eat have dinner or lunch at the resort but it 's a lovely walk over the cliffs to Armacao de Pera.

We have just come to the end of an excellent 1 week stay at Vilalara, and can recommend it strongly. The junior suite we were allocated was spacious and airy, with free wifi. Only missing item was an iPod dock, but I had my own micro speakers. The resort is beautifully kept, and well laid out. The outdoor heated pool wasn't available, but the main pool overlooking the beach was very fresh! The beach is spectacular, and the bay highly recommended. The resort was quiet, but we suspect that with 110 suites, it probably doesnt feel too packed even when busy owing to the layout and space of the public areas. The spa has a wide range of treatments, and was recommended by my wife. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide range of fruits and juices. I don't really sympathise with people who complain about the prices at a 5* resort, but food and drink is overpriced, even compared with the next door 5* Vila Vita. As far as people complaining of tired rooms, it looks like there is extensive refurb going on, so these may be being addressed. All in all, highly recommended. We got a deal of £120/night, which is exceptional, and may come back again if we can get weather as good as this out of season in March.
There are some good local restaurants as an alternative to the resort, very impressed by Porches Velho

Room Tip: Looks like refurb in progress, so make sure you get a new room, and the refurb isn't going on ne...

We went when there were offers 400 euros for the weekend 2 nights and it was great value for money. Yes the restaurant was expensive as was the spa, but that beach and THOSE COVES were the best. It was empty with only 30 or so clients and the weather was perfect. It was Our second visit and we will return...I don't know if i would pay the 300 or 400 per night when the place is busy. Check the weather and do a spontaneous off season trip like we did . There isn't much outside of the hotel but we went for total chil and they delivered. You cannot reserve chairs on the terrace
