“excellent location and rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

very close to the historical monuments in Vila Viçosa, that anyone must visit.

the food at the restaurant is very good and the staff is excellent.

the water in the pool was a bit cold for me.

not a five star hotel, actually a 4 star hotel, but very nice.

the breakfast was good.

We stayed 2 nights in mid June. We booked a break that included breakfast, dinner on one night and a bottle of fizz with fresh fruit in the room. The room and whole building is stunning as is the setting, next to the Ducal Palace. The greeting at reception and the service from virtually all of the staff was excellent. The gardens and pool area were very welcome after hot days sight seeing. The only disspointment was the poor quality and choice of dishes at dinner.

The hotel is adjacent to a stately palace, housed in a former convent. The rooms surround a courtyard/cloister, with a well tended formal garden w/ outdoor pool to the back. Understated luxury pervades the premises. A relaxing experience!

The charges are in line w/ the least costly pousadas, which makes this hotel an outstanding value.

We visited this Pousada for our wedding anniversary, and splashed out for a suite. The setting of the Pousada next to the Ducal Palace, makes for a truly spectacular setting. From the moment we stepped into thebPousada we were transported back in time. The public spaces were lovely, light airy and with lots of character, S you would expect to find in a historic Pousada, and we have stayed in quite a few.

Our suite was lovely, but didn't have a view of any note, though it had a large balcony, which caught the sun. The staff were very good, spoke English t reception and all staff understood enough for us to dispense with our limited Portuguese! There are some nice restaurants near by, and a lovey artisan pottery shop.....

The restaurant was quiet, but the food was really good, and probably one of the best Pousada restaurants we have eaten in, the food was hot and delicious. We spent some time baht the pool and I expect that in the height of summer this would be a great place to relax after sight seeing, and Vila Vicosa, has sme interesting attractions, the museum in the castle is worth a trip especially the hunting museum, its like being in a bygone age.

Room Tip: The suite we had The Duchesses suite was lovely, but perhaps didn't have the best view of the to...

This hotel is exactly as described in the website, a truly outstanding building. Make sure you have a good look around it is well worth it. The staff were very helpful and the rooms large and extremely clean. I stayed for four nights and every day the room was cleaned to perfection. Dinner was very good and served with flair, if a tad over priced. WiFi is available in the public areas with an individual code from reception, which lasts for 24 hours. Do look at the floor in the reception area where they have placed glass so you can see down to the old foundations. However cleaning the glass and placing a light place down there would make the impact even more impressive. On your way there for the first time do not be put off by all the quarries you pass, you cannot hear or see them once in the hotel. Also if coming from the north it is better to take the new N255, from just north of Borba, to Vila Vicoss rather than the old N255 between the two places.

We are regular but infrequent visitors to the pousadas of Portugal and in February we took advantage of a special offer for a two day culinary experience (130 euros for two days, dinner bed and breakfast for 2) in this marvellous pousada. The building itself is very historic bu thas all modern comforts. The rooms are comfortable, the meals excellent and the staff are very courteous and friendly. The location is very convenient for visiting other historic and interesting cities such as Estremoz, Èvora, Elvas, Portalegre and Marvaõ and all in all a very memorable stay. Highly recommended.

We spent 2 nights at this picturesque pousada to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The pousada is beautiful huge reception rooms and comfortable bedroom. The staff could not have been more welcoming and the service was excellent. The restaurant was good, a little over priced for dinner as we often find in pousadas, walk 100 yards to the safari for better value as we did for our second night. The breakfast was as usual excellent. As we are able to take advantage of the Golden Age offers this was a luxury break at an affordable price. Highly recommended.

He Pousada de Vila Vicosa, opened in 1996, is installed in the historical centre of this Alentejo city. Through the years some legends became associated with the Pousada. Ever since the mythical presence of the last mother superior, who still watches over by the convent, the attempt to build a direct passage to the Paco Ducal, which lies next to the Pousada.
