“Friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We stayed in this hotel only for one night. We had a long way from Umbria to Milan, that is why we needed to have a rest somewhere in the middle of our way.
I chose this hotel because it had not bad TripAdvisor raiting. We had honeymoon and it was very important for me to find good hotel with a big suite, but not so expensive.

When you come in this hotel you will be impressed by interiors in old classical style. This villa more than 600 years old.
Staff is really friendly. We were met by the manager of the hotel who showed us the hotel. Also I was pleasantly surprised by 'Honestly bar' with self-service in the reception of the hotel. You can take what you want and you just have to fill the form and leave it there.

We lived in the suite 11. It was quite big and clean. Very nice that the designers are not saved on the hotel interior. All the furniture in the one style and you can see that it is quite expensive.

We liked pool very much. It is big enough and very clean.

There are two things which I did not like:

1) Restaurant. There is a buffet on the dinner (different every day).Unfortunately, the food was not tasty, I think for Italian hotel it is a big omission. If I live in this hotel more than one day I think it would be a big problem for me. But the hotel is not far from the town and you can have dinner there.

2) Smell in the hotel. The hotel smells strongly kitchen and not very pleasant perfume sticks.

First stay here in a room converted into family suite for us. Accomodated for one night and at short notice so no issues with the accomodation in the circumstances. The rooms to have are in the main part of the hotel. Our room was "road side" but not aware of traffic noise. Air con probably noisier than any traffic but that is an issue with many properties in Italy.

The food? On the Thursday night it was Tuscan BBQ night. It may not sound interesting but antipasti delicious and various. The meat was delicious and the house wine, included in the price, more than acceptable.Breakfast was nice enough but a bit chaotic (hunt the cutlery).

Wi-Fi was very problematic trying to get I Pads/I Phones to connect. Maybe no big deal or deal at all for some but it was an irritation.

Service was charming and helpful when you approached someone. Delightful staff even by Tuscan standards. A rush of Americand at the red wine glasses caught the honesty Bar off guard but no big deal as two gorgeous glasses of Chianti appeared quickly. The staffing level is noticable in that it is more minimal than some might like. Personally, I found the discret service preferable to "enjoy" and "how is your meal Sir?" that you get like a stuck CD in some UK restaurants.

Place has a health spa and every room has the aroma of Jasmine. I love Jasmine but some don't.

Value for money was very good for standard of place. @440 euros for 4 half board.

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your comment even if some of your words do not meet our expectations

However I thank you for bringing it to my attention . It was difficult for me, but also very useful and something which will help me and my staff to overcome difficulties and dedicate all our energy to the improvement of the place we love so much

I’m pleased that you have chosen Villa il Poggiale and I’m very sad if your stay has not reached your expectations. It would be wonderful if you would give us another chance.

Warmest regards

After a month traveling in Italy I spent three nights relaxing in this wonderful villa in the coutryside. Monica and the staff were friendly and helpful and made me feel as though I was home. All meals were delicious, plentiful and "tipica". My room was especially comfortable and homely. The villa itself is worth exploring, with many sitting rooms and libraries, and it is possible to completely escape. The grounds are delightful, and as the villa, there are plenty of places to sit and relax, or to walk. I spent a good deal of time at the clean, clear pool. In short, I had a lovely relaxing stay and would like to return.

Nice and charming address, not too far from Firenze, if you have a car.
Kind and efficient staff.
But breakfast is a little poor and disappointing.
Anyway, a good hotel where you fill at home and not too expensive

We searched many months trying to find the right villa for our family trip and one morning I stumbled upon Villa il Poggiale and by the pictures it looked perfect. When traveling you are still apprehensive to base something on a website but in reality this villa is more beautiful than what is portrayed on website.

It sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley with gorgeous sunsets right from a storybook. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed for each of the price ranges (we took up 9 of the rooms). The service was amazing ... all the staff treated you like you are part of their family. The morning and nightly food was delightful. Many selections all prepared very well with fresh ingredients incuding salads, vegetables, meats, and of course pasta. We took part in a cooking class hosted by Chef Anna which was a wonderful experience - homemade pasta is a lot of work and they do this every day. The coordinated transportation to the closest village, San Casciana, was efficient and cost effective.

Outside of our fabulous vacation we also we used the property for a wedding - the attention to details was perfect. Herbs, lemons, and beautiful flowers were used as decorations everywhere. They were able to find a hair stylist, harpist, and master of ceremonies for us at the last minute. The champagne and appetizers on the lawn was a wonderful touch.

The staff spoke great english and provided translation for us if we needed to call anyone. They helped work around our schedules for our day trips and altered meal times for us (earlier and later). They seemed always present and available and very accomodating to any request we had.

We stayed 5 nights and we could have stayed much longer and we all want to go back.

Room Tip: Our family took up 9 rooms and each of them were great. We had the regular rooms which were smaller...

When we arrived at Villa il Poggiale it exceeded all our expectations . The Villa itself, which was at the top of the hill, and the scenery, were magnificent. It was right out of a movie or a post card.
The service and the food were excellent. Our friend had a problem with his eye anf the staff went out of their way to arrange an appointment with an opthalmologist for him. They also advised us where to go to get the most out of our visit to Tuscany
Our room was large and airy and beatifully furnished.
We would definitely return to the Villa in future
Thank you for making our holiday a wonderful experience

Although this property is only a short distance out of Florence, it feels like hours away. Monica and the rest of the staff were the perfect hosts - there to help when you needed it and worked hard to make everyone feel like guests and not customers. The grounds are lovely, relaxing and located within a short drive to Greve, Siena, wineries and more. We took a private cooking class for my wifes birthday, had a great time, and were treated to cake and prosecco! Next trip we stay a week!
