“Paradise in Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Friends who have already stayed at Gabbiano, recommended the Castello stay. I was truly taken by the location and the beauty of the site with its vineyards, cypres and olive trees. The pool area is just a big plus. I would like to comment on the service of Ms. Cornelia Reali. I needed some prescription medecine and although she was ready to go home, she went out of her way to help me finding an open pharmacy and doctor after closing time. She even offered to drive me herself, since I did not know where I was going. During the entire stay I found her team always ready to help whenever possible, making suggestions of places to visit, and even organize a walk around the hills for a small group. I would love to return and spend an entire week, and do indeed reccommend it to family and friends.

Room Tip: Just ask Cornelia. Give your preferences and she will try to accommodate you as best as possible ac...

After our second stay, my boyfriend and I couldn't be happier with the services and comfort provided by the Castello di Gabbiano team. We are certain we will be visiting again, as soon as time permits. Both times we rented an apartment in the agriturismo 50 meters from the castle itself. The well-renovated and rustic flat was exactly what we were looking for: beautiful views from every window, a fully-equipped kitchen that allowed us the flexibility and independence we wanted, as well as an extremely comfortable bedroom that looked like it was straight out of a fairytale. When we weren't relaxing at the castle's beautiful garden and pool, Cornelia Reali (the Director of Hospitality) offered plenty of great suggestions for local sights, restaurants and activities. In addition, the castle offers a wonderful tour of the estate and the wine cellars, as well as wine tastings and a fantastic restaurant - Il Cavaliere - on the property. We were surprised by the amount of negative reviews regarding the hostess. Cornelia was a very attentive, accommodating, and professional manager. She also gave us the privacy that made this trip so special. The service provided was more than what we expected considering the very reasonable price we paid. If you are traveling to Florence or the Tuscany region, your trip won't be complete without a visit to the castle and at least a glass of their Chianti Classico Riserva.

My mother and I stayed at the Castello Gabbiano recently for 3 nights and truly enjoyed our stay there. The small castle is located in the Tuscan countryside on a vineyard and boasts incredible views, especially from the pool area. The drive there can be quite stressful if you are not used to the narrow and windy roads of Italy and Mario Andretti wanna-be's, but we found it worth it. The rooms are not extravagant but they are comfortable and come equipped with a mini bar which had decent prices. There is also a stocked fridge at the pool where you sign out what you take and again these prices were fair. Breakfast was served after 8 each morning either on the lawn or in the breakfast room and had a nice selection of typical continental alternatives like breads, yogurt, fruits and cereal. The staff were kind and friendly (a shout out to Marina) and the restaurant just a short walk up the road behind the castle had incredible food. When we discovered it was closed Monday night, we were directed to another restaurant in a nearby town which also had great food. Wine tastings are available at the building next to the castle as are tours of the winery.

Note to travellers from country's like Canada and the U.S: microwaves, coffeemakers and these type of amenities are not typical in countries like Italy. This hotel did not have a T.V. in the room but the living area downstairs did. Hair dryers are also not always available but our room did have one (resembles a vacuum more than a dryer). Breakfast is usually served after 8am until 9:30 with evening dinners normally commencing around 8pm.

Room Tip: Rooms with views of the countryside may be quieter as rooms adjacent to the building next door have...

As other reviewers have said, this is a stunning property with amazing views and well furnished rooms. However the hospitality from Cornelia and her team was unbelievably cold. When we asked for some advice on local restaurants we were given a couple of choices but with total lack of enthusiasm or with any other advice. We were directed to one restaurant which turned out to be great.
The lady who does the breakfast is fantastic however and deserves a special mention!
The pool area is beautiful, with a good sized pool that is kept very clean.
We had dinner at the restaurant one night, great food, however possibly a little overpriced for what it is. We found local osterias and other smaller restaurants to be just as good. The side dish of vegetables here literally consisted of one piece of zuccini and one piece of aubergine! However the steaks are massive.

Overall would recommend this as a place to stay, with a good location to explore the rest of Chiati.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

My husband and I stayed at Castello Di Gabbiano two and a half weeks ago. We had been so looking forward to our visit and drove from Florence on June 1st for a 5 day stay. The Castello was lovely, the room huge and with stunning views. The breakfast was good and the restaurant and winery were fabulous. However the person who checked us in was very unwelcoming and there was no sign of Cornelia, the hospitality director who I had been communicating with from NZ prior to our stay. She appeared on Monday when we were having breakfast and did not even speak to us. We decided to move on early to Perugia as the atmosphere at the Castello was so unwelcoming.
The winery tour was excellent but Cornelia does not know anything about being hospitable. Other guests I spoke to felt the same. Very surprised that the Company who owns the Castello
has not replaced her.
We spent three weeks in Italy and this was the only place we felt unwelcome.

Room Tip: The corner suite we had was huge and with good views. Bed was not that comfortable.

Recently I and my fiancé spent a few very relaxing days in this magnificent castle. I was absolutely impressed by the beauty of the entire property, and the warmth and discreet elegance of this place. Our room was spacious and furnished with lots of taste, the staff was very attentive and helpful, they organized many of our excursions and visits. We absolutely loved the winery tour as well as the wine & cheese tasting, which was incredible informative. And of course we enjoyed a couple of great dinners in the restaurant on the property, not to forget the wonderful wines we tasted – Bellezza being our favourite.
I can not wait to visit again!

We stayed in the seperate restored farm house in the upstairs two bedroom unit. It was beautifully maintained, clean and great for our family. The grounds of the Castillo were great. You are perched very near the top of a hill with great views in every direction. Vineyards and small olive groves surround you. The nearby towns are the place to truly enjoy the Tuscan experience. The castle itself has a great reading room and a nice breakfast room. The pool is lovely and the views from it are fantastic! We will stay here again upon our return to Italy.
