“Best hotel ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

What an exceptional place. We arrived a day too early by mistake and unfortunately they were fully booked, as i would have been all to happy to spend an extra day there. The staff took great care of us, telling us to relax with a glass of Proseco and they would take care of finding us a room elsewhere for the night. She found us a room at the Relais La Suvera. We came back the next day and were once again greeted with Proseco by the fire place as it was a rainy day. We had a garden room - absolutely lovely with a fire place and big bathroom. The patio doors opened to a courtyard with a fountain and orange trees. Once the rain stopped we took a walk around their grounds. Beautiful. The gardens were never ending well thought out and well kept. They had a vegetable garden, huge pond, fruit garden even an in ground trampoline. Even though the weather was cooler than usual we still ate outside with a lovely view of the Tuscan countryside. They offered a blanket and heater. Staff went out of their way for you. My husband loves the dessert Zabaione which no one seems to make as its time consuming, well he had one made for him here and it was delicious. After dinner we went to the bar house, what a lovely place. Entering our room one evening i was chilled so at 11.30pm they came to make us a fire in the room. What service. I would definitely recommend this place and i hopefully will make it back some day. Thanks for a great time and looking after us

Thank you so much for your review sailing2011. Sorry about the cooler weather, but at least that made it possible for your zabaione! :-) We hope you can make it back soon as we are always happy to look after you again.

We fell in love with this place the moment we drove through the gates. Every single spot had been carefully considered to make it as beautiful and relaxing as possible.

The rooms were stunning and we slept like babies in a amazingly comfortable bed, to the sound of nearby running water fountains and the frog chorus.

The day beds dotted around the grounds were perfect for a little afternoon snooze away from the sun.

The food and service was superb.

We will be back to our favourite spot in Italy soon.

I think all the other reviews say it all. We had a magical time at Borgo. A little hard to find but as soon as we got there we were greeted by the wonderful Daniella with her great sense of humour, who really made the effort to make our stay perfect. In fact all the staff were fantastic - exactly how a hotel should be. We were made to feel really welcome and nothing was to much trouble. We were upgraded to their best suite 'Santo Pietro suite'. Probably the nicest room I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. A huge lounge, bedroom and bathroom all decorated beautifully with an amazing terrace. It really was heaven. The rest of the hotel was also decorated with real attention to detail. There were flowers everywhere and the whole hotel smelt wonderful. We ate in the restaurant on a few nights and it was the best food we had on our trip. Would definitely stay again.

There is absolutely nothing more I can say about this place other than it was absolutely perfect and exceeded all expectations. By far the best and friendliest service I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. The garden suite was a dream with a beautiful bathtub and big wood-burning fireplace we used every day. I would sit outside in the garden and watch butterflies dance around in the morning...I felt like I was dreaming! Every meal we had was beautiful.. from the charcuterie plate they offered us upon arrival to the fresh lamb and whole fish we had made for us at the farmers market. We had a great massage in the charming spa, a yoga lesson by the pool and a wonderful (and insighftul!) private Tuscan cooking class from chef Paolo. They arranged for a day with a driver and private wine tour at Casanova di Nero. EPIC. Each morning started on the patio having breakfast surrounded by fresh jasmine bushes looking over the countryside. I cannot say enough about the property. Perfection. The couple who took it over brought in 250,000 plants to enrich the gardens of the estate. My boyfriend and I would take glasses of wine after dinner and explore the gardens under a full moon...it was so romantic that when we ventured through hedges as tall as walls and came into an open garden with one dimly lit gazebo covered in vines in the middle he dropped down on one knee and proposed!!! It was perfect, unforgettable, beautiful, dreamy, wonderful and every adjective I can possibly use in between. We will be returning here every single chance we get. Since the property is so small, it is great that there is no chance of it being too busy or crowded. Every day felt intimate, calm and special. A lot of that had to do with the service.. they are so genuinely friendly and in tune with your needs, we were never in need of anything. Thank you BSP for the best few days of my life!!! We'll be back as soon as we can!!

The beauty of this magical place was not evident to us immediately after countless turns and numerous bends through the darkened Tuscan countryside on the Thursday night before Easter. Through the rather slow, creaking automatic double gates, up the drive flanked by cypress tress all around to where the valet was waiting dutifully for us in this dead quiet, middle of the night. Exhausted as we were, the mood was subdued and thankfully the valet did not even blink at our large dog emerging from the boot of our car (I had written earlier to inform them of our dog but they did not mention a size limit).

The valet showed us to our room; upon opening the doors to our Junior Garden Suite, I remember my husband and I just stood stock still. This was a moment a behold and let the serenity of the beauty of the room wash over us. The chandeliers, the fireplace, that wonderfully huge bed laden with soft pillows and cushions, down to the little dog cushion bed, with our late dinner so thoughtfully provided for our late arrival by the hotel, everything was just perfect.
The scent of the toiletries just blew me away and I just had to rush to Florence to the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella to obtain an armyload of this (I hope BSP get good commission because this is fantastic marketing for the SMN!).

Unfortunately, the weather was not as warm and inviting as we had hope. However, our suite, the main villa, everything indoors was just so wonderfully kept together there was almost no reason to step outside.

Come Saturday and Sunday (the day of the Easter Hunt) the weather took a turn for the better and once more, we were blown away by the organized beauty of the gardens. In fact, the whole organization of the Easter egg hunt was done so wonderfully, with refreshments dotted here and there in the gardens, it really enabled the small amount of guests there to mingle, chat and laugh. Being a very a-social person myself, I even found myself grinning like an idiot to our guests and making small talk!

Our dog obviously enjoyed the occasion and the staff were all super accommodating with her; she was not allowed into the main building, understandable as the restaurants were there. However, one night we were able to sit out on the terrace of the restaurant, and the maître d'hôtel arranged so that we were able to sit in front of the brightly lit fireplace, candles lit all around us and our dog sleeping under the table.

It was simply a magical experience, the whole expanse of the tuscan countryside spread at our feet, that wonderful tinkling sound of the pool cascading over the wall into a mini waterfall, the scent of the blooms in the evening air.

Is there anywhere more beautiful? The lovely couple who owns and run this place was hoping to build a new Spa, using the original stones of the estate, combining it with modern amenities. We had a look at the structure and it looks wonderful. The current spa is very small, lacking an official 'lounging' relaxation area. The new place will have a large garden, with sun beds, just by the delightful duck pond!

Our suite was one of the junior garden suites, the L'Ulivo. The gates led out into a small courtyard, shared between our 3 suites and a little fountain in the middle and a large iron cast four-poster 'lounge' bed. It was wonderfully relaxing to listen to birds singing, the peacock male warbling his calling song (or whatever he was calling for), the bubbling fountain and watching our dog lounge around among the butterflies!

Only thing I have to say about the place - the bathroom did not have a proper shower curtain, which meant that a large amount of the floor got soaked each time we took a shower. On the other hand, we had a fantastic bath square right next to the bed! ....which mean you could also spend washing time in that awesome bath too!

Room Tip: The garden suites were really worth the price! We loved our L'Ulivo room. We originally wanted t...

At the end of April 2014, my husband and I spent 5 days here. We had decided to marry at the nearby San Galgano Abbey, wanting a simple civil ceremony in a beautiful place steeped in history. We found the Abbey through the Borgo, otherwise we would not have been aware that civil ceremonies could take place here. The staff at the Borgo were wonderful every step of the way. Claudine, the Resident Manager, took charge, organising all the legalities with the local mayor's office - including all the pre and post follow up required to get our wedding certificate. She also made sure that all the important things were perfect - from peony roses for the wedding bouquet and table piece (beautifully arranged by resident florist Vilma), to a phenomenal degustation dinner orchestrated by the very talented sous chef Paolo (his wife makes the most divine desserts) coupled with wines specially chosen by the resident sommelier Simona. It was particularly cold that night so we couldn't eat outside as planned so the team set up the wedding dinner in a romantic private room with a blazing fire and 100% exquisite attention by the Restaurant Manager, Jean-Luca. The service is outstanding at every level! We were just two people having a private wedding without any guests yet we felt as though we received as much attention, care, time and thought as a wedding where there might be 100 guests. We felt that the staff really invested in us and they became the much loved local family at our wedding. Thank you Claudine and everyone else who made our wedding and honeymoon just perfect.
We chose to stay in the Giardin di Fiori room and would highly recommend it if you don't want to splurge on a suite. It is a spacious room, has its own open fire and a perfect outlook over the gardens. The house and the gardens are spectacular. If you set your expectations on the pictures on the website, you won't be disappointed - it is even more beautiful.
We didn't leave the Borgo much during our stay - don't be too busy driving around that you don't have time to really just "be" in the house and the gardens. But we did have a special day driving to Montalcino - one of the beautiful Tuscan hilltop towns. There is a place to have wine tastings of Brunello wines that we highly recommend if you like wine. You must also visit San Galgano Abbey (and the restaurant/cafe) and also wander down to Palazetto for a pizza or relaxed dinner if you are staying for a few nights.
We hope we have the opportunity to visit again and would have no hesitation recommending it to others. We made the perfect choice for such an important occasion.

We are holding our wedding here this September after falling in love with BSP at the start of last year after searching countless other venues. Everything about this hidden gem, exudes pure luxury, indulgence and charm. The service is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble. The planning of our wedding has been effortless too. 2 days simply won't be enough. The staff are all so helpful , warm and friendly and we absolutely adore the very charming Gian Luca who really makes BSP feel like your home away from home. If this was the last place on earth I'd visit, I would be extremely content! Nowhere else lives up to its beauty. Roll on September!
