“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

My teenage daughters spent an evening with Valerie and Nonna Ciana during our visit to Tuscany. The experience was a highlight of our trip to Tuscany. Valerie and Nonna invited us into their home as guests and together we prepared one of the best meals that we have had anywhere. We leaned and laughed and brought home great memories.

“Good Cooking Class but better in a smaller group”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

I have a cooking class with Nonna and Valerie in June, and both of them are lovely and cheerful. I was shocked with I first come into the venue because the kitchen was already fully packed with 9 ppl together with five of us, it was 14 adults in one group and in a small kitchen area.

The cooking class is good, but due to the big class size, we even don't have enough space to move around, but just to participate in some simple work like cutting tomatoes ... etc. Paying EUR100 per person, I expect we can have more hands-on work instead of just watching Nonna to cook and teach us.

I have been to many cooking classes in the world, but this one was indeed like a lecturer rather than you can have hands on experiences. So, better to ask your class size before you go, so that you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is good and the food prepared by Nonna is of good taste so that the environment is cozy.

"Thanks for taking the time to write a review and for your appreciation of the food. We take pride in the quality of the products we use, including extra -virgin olive oil and great Chianti Dogt from our own estate, as well as our fresh garden produce, our own honey and so on. The price of the cooking class reflects the quality of the products we use as well as the teaching, practice and follow-up with recipes and instructions. I'm very sorry if you felt overcrowded. As specified in our e-mail the number of students varies from 2 to 12 but given the size of the farm-house kitchen and the two great wooden farmhouse tables we usually find that there is space enough for everyone to get hands-on experience, especially of the pasta making, highlight of any Italian meal! In fact the cooking lessons have proved so popular that many groups are of 8 to 12 people but whether they are already friends travelling together or come seperately and make friends here (many stay in touch and some even cook again together back home) we try to make sure everyone both has a great time and learns a lot of Italian cooking and secrets. With these slightly larger groups Nonna Ciana usually has two interpreters to make sure no one misses anything and we sincerely apologize if this wasn't your case,in fact on one occasion serious family problems prevented one of our interpreters from being with us but we will do our best to make sure it doesn't happen again.Sorry for the inconvenience.Anyway we are glad you enjoyed the food and hope you also enjoy trying the recipes out at home."

“Excellente expérience !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

Buongiorno tutti !

Just a short message to thank you again for your warm welcome and kindness last friday !
The room was very nice (and I'm very sorry again for breaking the key...)

Thanks a lot to Luciana and Valeria for the great Tuscan cooking lesson ! We really learned a lot and we'll for sure try to reproduce at home the best pastas we ever ate.
Count on us to talk about you here in Paris and send you as many french students as possible !

Florence and I wish you the best, hoping to meet again if we come back one day to Siena with the girls.

“Cooking classes with Nonna Ciana”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

We spent a wonderful morning with Nonna Ciana and Valeria. The farmhouse and kitchen were beautiful. They were both so welcoming and gracious - we learnt some fantastic new techiques that were simple to understand but really gave us an insight into traditional Italian cooking. The food was divine - bruschetta, fresh tagliatelle and chicken bocconcini made with saffron, as well as a mascarpone dessert. We used a lot of their own produce from the farm which was fantastic, the saffron was particularly wonderful. We appreciate their focus on using as much local produce as possible, either from their own farm or nearby, which we think is a real benefit to this class. I would highly recommend this cooking class to anyone visiting the area, it is fun, enjoyable and accessible for people at all skill levels in their cooking journey.

“Highlight of My Whole Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

As a true foodie I routinely check out food related adventures while on vacation and Cooking With Nonna Ciana was superb. The farmhouse was beautiful, the small group setting was perfect and of course Nonna and Valerie (her interpreter) could not have been more amicable.

The evening was just the right mix of instruction, laughing and learning. The food was incredible and the generous amount of wine poured made it that much better. Don't be intimidated if you can't cook a lick. Cooking with Nonna is for everybody.
