We stayed at Borgo San Felice Oct 8th and 9th.We paid for a double deluxe room and when we arrived I thought the room was much smaller than the double deluxe we stayed in 2 years ago at the same property. When I asked if they had a larger deluxe the surly girl at the desk said."No.but if you'd like to pay more I can show you a Junior Suite.Check the room out first. For 350 Euros,it's anything but a great deal.I asked the front desk what was the earliest we could get coffee in the morning. They told us 7 A.M.The first morning was fine and the shorter darker haired waiter not only made the coffee but carried it to the room for me.World class. When I got to the dining room at 7 AM on the sec ond morning, the taller blonde waiter told me come back at 7:30 as there is no coffee until then. When I explained that the front desk said I could have coffee at 7,he told me to have the front desk get it as he wouldn't.What a jerk.Beware as the staff has gotten more surly since 2 years ago.

My wife and I have just returned from three days at Borgo San Felice and were thrilled with our stay. If you are looking for an out of the way historic Tuscan property perfect for relaxation then this is it.

Somewhat guilty about leaving the kids behind even for a short while it was important to us that we made the most of the little time we had. In this regard this hotel gave us all we could have asked for. The grounds are pristine and beautiful and there is a sensational pool area. Nothing was too much trouble for the manager and his staff and we find it impossible to understand the comments in other reviews. In particular our room was superbly equipped and the bed divine (and I stay in a lot of hotels).

The restaurant is elegant and the staff efficient. They are happy to engage with the diners but the ethos seems to be to allow the guests their privacy - you can't please everyone. The food was very good indeed seeking to stay faithful to Tuscan cuisine. We would have happily eaten our way through the entire menu if we had only had time! Needless to say the wine list is superb and the wine ceremony for a quality red a delight to behold!

We would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking relaxation in the beautiful Chianti countryside!

Visiting friends in Umbria at their home and had to stay one night in an area close to their place in Campello. Went to the Relais C web site and called their US number and a woman advised me to stay here at The Borgo San Felice- let me just say that my wife and I stay in places all over the world and we are very finnicky. This delightful country inn in the Chianti hills near Sienna now resides on our top ten list. Not easy to find, but like many worthy things well worth the effort. Charming.

“Great - but it's getting worse”

Hotel Relais Borgo San Felice

I have been here four times now so hopefully my comments and experience will be useful. The last time was five years ago, so it was interesting to see what changes, if any, had happened.

Firstly ignore some of the comments about this hotel such as ‘there’s only two TV channels in English’, ‘they cook the food raw’ etc – these travellers don’t understand what ‘getting away from it all means, and what true Italian luxury is! I hate to generalise, but unless you are a well travelled US citizen, don’t come here!

The hotel and grounds are as always stunning – you just can’t get a better location. We had room 104 a deluxe junior suite with our two kids – wonderful room, suggest you ask for it.

Read all the positive points on other reviews, I’ll just give a heads up on the one problem now at this hotel – well two actually.

It’s the restaurant – this was the highlight when we used to stay in terms of service and food. The food now, new chef I believe, is not up to the standard it used to be, and is quite frankly very over priced for just above average Italian restaurant cuisine – such a shame as it used to be fantastic.

The service is now terrible – in the sense that a bottle of wine will sit for twenty minutes unopened, or that food will turn up randomly. More annoyingly is the waiters, particularly two guys, are so uninterested in making an effort/smiling/being professional you wonder why they are in the trade at all.

Basically the restaurant and service staff need a kick up the backside, because they are letting down one of the best hotel locations in Italy – and at the prices they charge (expensive) people like us will not be returning – shame!

“Fantastic hotel”

Hotel Relais Borgo San Felice

Charming, tasteful, beautiful hotel. It's an old village that has entirely been taken over by the hotel, with gravel laid down in the streets and squares, and the buildings converted into rooms. The grounds are full of flowers, and the village is surrounded by vineyards. The hotel restaurant is pretty good, but there are some first-class restaurants a short drive away.

A previous reviewer from Virginia complained that it is in the middle of nowhere, has only 2 English TV channels, no shops, and only one restaurant that doesn't overcook the meat. If that sounds like the sort of thing you're looking for, this hotel is perfect, because it won't be full of people like him.
