We had an excellent six days with Corrado and Laura at the Leone. This is a farm that sits within an hour's drive of Ragusa, Modica, Sciccli, Noto and Syracuse. The road is relatively easy to find and not especially narrow. You will need to be comfortable with driving in Siciilan country lanes to make the most of the area but it's not a major issue. We found the faster local drivers considerate of our slow progress. The accomodation at the farm consists of spacious rooms with large bathrooms. There is also a communal room and at least one bedroom has good disabled access.
The value is excellent. The six course dinner takes over two hours and is all grown on the farm or locally. It consisted of antipasti[ at least six dishes], pasta, meat course, fruit, dessert, wine, water and liqueur, currently for 19 euros a head on top of the £70 euros cost of B&B for 2.
The farm sits around 1500 feet above the surrounding plains and this gives the air a welcome fresh feel. We also visited the Jolly Bar in the nearby village of Testa de Acqua, where, despite our limited Italian, we were made very welcome by the locals. This village has a few basic shops to cover most needs.
The owners are great hosts despite having to fit in a lot of farming during the day. Neither speak much English but make the most of their growing vocabulary. The dining room is an enjoyable experience - the website is a true reflection of the reality too. Go in spring and it's like driving through a botanical garden. Visit the villages like Ferma, Akrai and Buschemi as well as the larger baroque towns
