“Excellent location to visit eastern Sicily”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2011

I spent 7 days at Il Limoneto (10 to 17 October 2011) with my wife and my elder son. We chose the location for several reasons: 1) we excluded hotels from the start because we wanted something new 2) the comments from TripAdvisor were of great value to us 3) we looked for a location between Catania and Taormina (the complex is located near Scillichenti - Acireale).
"Il Limoneto" offers accommodation in several apartment houses in the middle of a lemon tree grove. We experienced the tranquility and the magnificent views of Etna and the Ionian Sea. Access - only by car (we rented it from the Fontanarossa airport). I recommend other Romanians wishing to visit Sicily not to go there by a sedan or SUV since the streets are very narrow. And be aware of parking in Taormina (it is allowded only in the two parking lots, otherwise you can get a considerable fine).
The owners, the Lapi family, are extremely nice and helpful when you want to visit the surroundings.Fabrizio invited us from the beginning to take advantage of the lemon orchard, so that every morning we had a fresh lemonade on the terrace in front of the villa. We stayed in the Eraclea Villa (downstairs and upstairs bedroom, bathroom with shower and hall-kitchen) - a picturesque old building. Ok in terms of cleanliness. You can get breakfast supplies from the grocery store in Scillichenti at about 800 m, with delicious products you only find in Italy.
WiFi is available only if you move near the grill and I believe they should extend the hotspot.
The orchard itself is an attraction - shady paths leading to various surprise places (solarium with chairs and shower, balcony with sea view).
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we are decided to repeat it in other seasons (especially in spring when the lemon trees are blooming).
I intended to write this review in Romanian but, unfortunately, the Traveladvisor policy does not permit posting in my own language.

We visited Il Limoneto during our annual management team building from 29th September till 1st October. The place is lovely, rooms are comfortable with a convenient kitchenette and a bench outside were we could have breakfast and drinks in the evening. The owner was very helpful with suggestions about good restaurants in the area. Make sure you follow the map which is sent to you when you book as at the moment there are some roadworks going on and you might get lost if you use GPS.

Room Tip: The room on the right is extremely nice (as soon as you surpass the gate)

We stayed for 3 nights mid-September and had a fantastic break. The location and views were beautiful, the apartment clean and spacious, simply furnished. Ours had a small kitchen area with gas hob, small fridge and pans/crockery etc. Bathroom had a decent shower. Each apartment has its own outdoor table and seating on the terrace. There is free wi-fi available at an outside picnic table (be careful of the mosquitoes here). Good local wine and home made honey are available to buy. The optional breakfast is adequate and was useful on the first morning but as it is pre-packaged (croissant, jam, fruit juice, crackers, tea bags, longlife millk) we preferred to buy fresh bread etc after that. We chose not to hire a car and, for a short trip, this was not a problem. The village of Scillichenti is about 1/2 a mile away and this has a couple of small grocers/minimarkets plus amazing takeaway pizza. For a wide selection of restaurants it is better to visit Acireale and the bus trip here was quick and straightforward. The owners of Il Limoneto were very friendly and keen to help us enjoy our trip - and we really did have a great stay.

Stayed there in May, myself, my wife and our daughter— 2yrs old. Nice place, but needs some additional improvement to be worth it for the money we have paid.
1. Room was clean, but during our 8 days stay was not cleaned even once.
2. Towels were not changed, until we asked on the 5th day.
3. Internet is avaiable at a table near by the owner's house. There are more mosquitoes there than internet...
So generally place was ok. I specifically loved the smell of lemons in the mornings.
Needs service improvement definitely.

We have loved our two stays at Il Limoneto for numerous reasons, but here are the basics. The location is great, with easy access from Catania's airport. There are plenty of day trips to choose from, and while we were able to explore principal attractions (Taormina, Piazza Armerina, and Mt. Etna), there are great little nearby towns, too. Il Limoneto provides plenty of relaxation on its own, if you simply want to stay local. The Lapi family, your hosts, are friendly, helpful and genuine. The accomodations are comfortable, clean, and well-equipped, a perfect setting for our honeymoon, and later, for a visit with our. Our biggest praise of all is our desire to return again and again to this lovely spot which has become so dear to us.

Room Tip: Contact the owners early in your travel plans.

Location, appartment, reception, hospitality and English knpwledge were very good. The site has wonderfull panorama over the sea and to the Etna. Every day fresh fruit from the garden.
Good restaurants in proximity. The site is guarded by automatic fence.

This was our second trip to Il Limoneto, our first in 2001, and hopefully not our last. The family that runs Il Limoneto are extremely kind and accommodating. The meandering paths through the lemon orchards are romantic and aromatic. The rooms were comfortable, the price was good, and the location was central to many beautiful sites on the east coast of Sicily. Everyone should take the opportunity to visit Sicily, and Il Limoneto is a must. Thanks Fabrizio, Veronica, Bruno, Gabriella.
