“Charming hotel, perfect location, worth the splurge!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

I stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Papaleo for a 6-night stay in Otranto, Italy. Since I was traveling alone, I wanted a safe, relaxing place near the sea. My expectations were surpassed at the Hotel Palazzo Papaleo! This gorgeous, boutique hotel was once the summer home of the Papaleo family, renovated and opened in 2007. Located in the old town it was a stone's throw to the sea. What stands out about my stay at Hotel Palazzo Papaleo was the hotel staff. Dario, the manager, and his staff, treated me like a queen. Each and every hotel employee, from the front desk to the housekeepers, to chef Antonio, went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. Each morning I looked forward to the beautiful breakfast buffet with homemade italian cakes, as well as healthy selections, served in an elegant dining room. Morning cappuccinos were served by the wonderful staff. An added surprise was the tiny 5-star restaurant in the hotel serving dinner a few nights a week. One evening chef Antonio prepared, especially for me, a local fish dish with a side of legumes and chicory from the rich farming and fishing region of Salento. I cannot wait to visit Otranto again during spring or summer, to dine on the hotel's roof-top deck overlooking the sea. (Ps. The hotel does not have a pool as is marked below. But it does have a hot tub on the roof.)

We had 4 delightful days at this charming little hotel in Otranto the perfect spot to stay and explore the 'heel' of Italy. Chef Antonio is a true talent and we ate his wonderful cooking for 3 of the 4 nights we stayed. The Front Desk staff gave us 5 Star customer service and were more than willing to answer all of our questions. Breakfast was very fresh and varied. We stayed in the middle of October and were surprised by the warm temperatures and high humidity - next time we will bring (North American) summer clothes. Evening walks along the waterfront were memorable - we will be back!

Room Tip: Our standard room was under the roof top kitchen - I will request not to have it next time as we cou...

We were welcomed very heartly and the whole staff is absolutely friendly and helpful. The hotel, an old, but stylish renovated palazzo is located within the city walls of old Otranto. Every morning we enjoyed a rich breakfast and an excellent service on the roof top. The view from the top is just magnifique. You partially overlook the old town and the bay. To find a parking lot in high season however could be a real trial. Nevertheless, Otranto is one of the nicest places in Puglia and absolutely worth to visit. We highly recommend a stay at the hotel Palazzo Papaleo. You won't regret it!

We had booked this via tripadvisor. We found a great deal with breakfast included at €101 for the both of us. The hotel is brilliantly located near the cathedral. We did have some difficulty in finding the hotel but that was probably more our incompetence of navigating.
When we found the hotel, the staff asked where we had parked and said he would go and pick up our luggage from the car, he showed us around showing us the facilities and our room. Brilliant service.
When we asked for a recommendation to a restaurant the hotel staff took upon herself to find out if they had what I wanted and booked a table for us.
Also when we returned, and they found out I was not feeling well, they came and checked to see if I was okay. I stay at hotels all around the world every week and have to stay that I was very impressed by this hotel.
The breakfast was average though, and the TV could have had a better connection as it jumped a little but these are looking for things to criticise.

A really charming hotel in the centre of Otranto. We got a great welcome despite arriving dusty from cycling, and found the staff charming and courteous We enjoyed the open air breakfast on the roof garden. Most of the rooms have access to a balcony or terrace for a quiet read or nap in the sun. We would recommend the coastal cycle and swimming at Porto Badisco.
