The third largest frescoed church in Italy, in the small town of Galatina! A must see if you are in the Salento region. The frescoes are incredible, made by painters who were influenced by Giotto - when he worked in Naples. Free admission.

A local from Galatina brought us here. He thought we'd like to see a church. I needed more than one hour to see all the fantastic fresco's. Too bad it was not allowed to take pictures. The stories, the images, the quality of them are definitely worth your visit, an extra walk if you are in Galatina or a drive if you're in the area!
Very un impressive from the outside , surprisingly impressive from the inside : Stunning frescoes and paintings , both on ceilings and on walls .
Mind you - no photos !!! (Probably they want to sell you postcards in the adjecent little museum) .
Galatina is not a big town, but worth visiting for this. The photos don't do it justice. It's stunning.
Brilliant frescos - but not a lot else. No information about the place; there didn't seem to be any staff and not a place you'll just stumble across. Probably wouldn't have even seen it if it wasn't for TripAdvisor !!!
Galatina is a little town about 20 km from Lecce mostly known for a military airport and Air Force training school.
The old Basilica is dated back to 1300 and it is really well worth a visit for the beautiful frescos when you are in Salento. Guided visits in Italian and English are available free of charge. The frescos are in part inspired by Giotto's sequences of paintings in Assisi S. Francesco Cathedral.
