One of the best cave systems I have been to and full of great features. Fantastic stalactites and stalagmites and the beautiful whole cave at the end of the longer tour. Parking is not so simple but worth the money. Go on the 11.00 tour for English guide

You have a choice of two routes - short and long. Short route is not effective if you have the time. Long trail is a really good choice - you'll see much more. Shooting in the cave is forbidden - allowed only in the first dome. White Cave at the end of the route is beautiful, but the whole visit worthwhile. The temperature in the cave is lower than on the surface, but we did not need jackets. They recommend good shoes, trekking sandals enough, but be careful, someone slips a bit.

The grotte di Castellana is very interesting and is beautifully lit - especially the white cave. I have to subtract 2 points though because
a) you are not allowed to take photos in most parts of the grotte - I would have been willing to pay extra for taking photos, but the guide didn't even know how much the permission would cost.
b) you need to watch your step if you don't want to fall down, so to see the grotte, you need to stop walking... but if you do, they yell at you, not to stop.

Great place to visit, keep in mind it can be a stiff walk underground but it is really worth it. After the 1st chamber it is forbidden to take photo's, for obvious reasons, the flashes would be very disturbing.
It can also get very busy.

A great way to spend a couple of hours especially if the weather's not so great (as it was when we went).
Took the longer 2 hour walk (remember, it's really one and a half hours because the last half hour of it is walking back through the caves to the entrance). Did the Italian tour, but to be honest, a commentary is not really essential as it's really a visual feast.
The caves are far higher, far more spectacular in real life than photos can capture. And the last white cave is extraordinary.
It's not that cold - it's a constant mild temperature but wear grippy shoes as some of the walkway is a bit slippery as the caves drip on you, continuing to carry on creating more stalactites and stalagmites.
