“King of Tradition”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

If you are traveling from Parma to Bologna, do not miss "Arnaldo Restaurant" in Rubiera (between Modena and Reggio Emilia).
Arnaldo has been there for decades and it is always worthwhile a stop.
Dishes from the regional Emilia Cuisine, well executed and made with fresh ingredients.
Service is basically good and you won't be disappointed.
Do not miss tortelli verdi and erbazzone.

“Classy ambience, fantastic food trolleys but fast before you go”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We had been given directions for another restaurant (Antica Trattoria Toschi) which we could not find, so by chance we arrived at night fall in the small piazza where Arnaldo is located. It looked welcoming from the outside so we decided to dine there. As soon as we walked in and noticed the antiques and decor we realized this restaurant was more upmarket than we anticipated. Indeed it is a real treat. We loved the trolleys or carts of antipasti, bolliti (meats), salads and desserts. Diners can have anything from the trolleys for a fixed price of 55 Euro per head, but honestly it was too much food for us on that night. Service was professional and friendly, the staff look very smart in their black uniforms with the ladies wearing white aprons. We had a mixed antipasto (it was a pity we were not offered the meat carpaccio which was on the lower level of the trolley - never mind, there is always a next time) and panfried chicken livers - these were average, not very tender and not too tasty. Then we had risotto alla parmigiana for two, one of us had the added shaved white truffle (25 Euro extra), salad and vegetables from the trolley, finishing with shared dessert from the trolley. We sipped a small bottle of Gutturnio and a mineral water, and the total bill was 107 Euro, which we consider very acceptable for the quality and ambience. There was no cover charge on our bill either.
We felt the zabaglione was too sugary, the accompanying pears in red wine were yummy. When we told one of the staff about the zabaglione he said that was the traditional way they make it there. The history of the name "Clinica" is because from early times when doctors visited the area (as there is a well known clinic or hospital there), they used to stay and dine at Arnaldo, which is a 4th generation business.

“2nd time here. Simply superb!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Simply the best lunch I had in a long, long time. I rarely experienced such a fine treatment for sight, taste and heart. What I highly reate here is the atmosphere of elegant Italy, countryside style, with high class furnitures, fine details. Food is served a la carte but also you can pick from the charts, each one of them dispalying starters, delicious hams, boiled meats, vegetables, sweets. I indulged in testing and tasting anything I could and I found top standards in all compartments. Service is performed with care for details and fine waiters' uniforms -Note: dressing up seems not compulsory for guests, but I'd recommend it a that's the tone of the place.
I ended up purchasing their sauces -that are presently continuing the pleasure of having been there. Recommended as one of the tops in Italy, with no doubt.

“Living up to its reputation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Went to lots of different ristorante alike, and this one leaves a pleasant memory of fine, non-pretensious, wholesome, hearty home cooking. This is what food should be, michelin-star well deserved. Traditional Italian home mama-cooking, cooking with gusto's', cooking paying due respect to the ingredients of the day, with all flavours packed inside in its original form, and served. No such nonsense of deconstructing food, microblending and freezing, and reconstructing it again. Most of all, it is fairly priced even with a good bottle of wine.

Went there twice, always happy to set the dinner there.
The variety of emilian dishes and the top-level quality of food and wine is marvellous. Book in advance
