“Loved the food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

We ate at The Mastersons one nigjt. I am a very picky eater and was able to find a variety of meals to choose from. The staff was friendly. Everthing we ate was delicious. I would defiantly eat there again!

“Filling but no frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Masterson's had been recommended to us before we arrived to our holiday destination on Achill Island. So, we were looking forward to a few outings for coffee, drinks or food.

Inside, it is on the shabby side of comfortable. It is a big enough space with basic large tables placed around the centre of the pub (they reminded me of a community centre) and more comfortable, smaller tables beside the windows with booths on a higher level.

It is noisy due to the two televisions at either end - both on different channels - but this adds to the atmosphere I suppose?

Food is standard. Chips, mashed potato, veg, undressed salad, burgers, plenty of breaded this and battered that. Very tasty and filling. Desserts were lovely. My kids loved it all.

We made three visits and each left me with a strange feeling. It was the staff. There were plenty of them but none of them engaged with us on any level. The service wasn't particularly efficient. In fact, it was quite difficult to get served. Several people arrived on one of the evenings we were there and weren't sure if there would be table service or if one needed to got to the bar to be served. It seemed to me that Mastersons can't make up its mind whether it is a pub or a restaurant and hence, that strange feeling pervaded. There was an aloofness and a lack of caring. Or perhaps a lack of clear instruction.

Nevertheless, we didn't feel ripped off. Food was affordable, tasty, standard and plentiful. You won't go hungry.

“Very unwelcoming”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

We were approached by a waitress in her 50's. really not friendly we decided to go here because the year before. Food was good and so was service. Not the case this time. The woman bearly spoke to us ,there was a couple over from us with a baby and she was all over them. The food was just ok nothing special. So different from last year. As we were leaving the lady was looking out the window. In the room next to the bar. I got the feeling she may have been the boss as she wasn't really doing very much. If she's a worker, they need a replacement. If she's the boss they won't be very long in business the way she's going. I can't help feel the reason we were treated the way we were is that she had seen the reg on our car and seen we were tourists or didn't like northern Irish people. If there's one thing I can't stand is rude bad mannered persons. To be fair to the man that was there he was fine. Seemed to be the only busy and was still friendly. Crowds have decreased dramatically since last year here.

“Huge pub that's great for familiies”

The food and service were good, and the atmosphere was definitely fun. It's a great place to bring kids, as they have a game room in the back.

“Very Nice Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We were on a camping trip in Keel last weekend and ate in Matersons. 4 couples and kids all went and all enjoyed the food and drinks. Generous portions and plenty of room but most importantly the food was really good. The prices were excellent and all the families commented on the value in Mastersons. We ate there the following day too. We visited a so called highly recommended restaurant in Keel and found the food very poor and the price did not nearly justify the quality.
