“The place is amazing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2009

This is very good hotel. The hotel is architectural interesting and good inserted in the ambient.
The rooms are nice and very clean. External space and terraces are large but space inside the room can be larger. Each other is compensated so somebody doesn’t feel the shortage of space. We were on the ground floor, with twin beds and bunk beds for children, but at neither moment we didn’t feel it was tight space.
The food is superb and delicious. Maybe, the food can be more varied, particularly this applies to fruit (for examples there was no peaches), but these are really details. The chief of the restaurant is very polite, including completely staff which fulfils all whishes.
The best choice is all inclusive. We didn’t know it because at the tour operator options that became were semipansion and pansion. But who pays for pansion actually is in the regime all inclusive, what enable not only lunch, but both beverages and sweets, not only in main restaurant but also in the pool bar, and practically throughout the day.
The hotel has big swimming pool and number of attractions for its guests. The team of animators is an especially for story. Ian is top entertainer and fitness instructor. The girls, Katka and Deniska, are very good in working with children and our younger son loved that with them and children conducted during the space near the pool.
The hotel is located near to excellent beach Xi, which is only 250 m from the hotel. Xi is blue flag beach, the sea has crystal clean water and beach is particularly good for children because it is long shallow water.
As is Kefalonia heavenly island, we took a car in Pefonis rent-a-car agency and visited many beautiful places and beaches. Although the Paliki peninsula somewhat isolated from the rest of Kefalonia island, when you have a car practical to do notes. There are a lot of rent-a-car agencies on the island, and the prices of hired car are very appropriate.
We had one superb holiday on this amazing island, and the hotel Cephalonia Palace contributed to this extraordinary impression. We will back for any year on Kefalonia, and the choice can be again this beautiful Cephalonia Palace hotel.

Went to this hotel 13 years ago and it was wonderful - so decided to revisit the island and the hotel. The first thing to note is that about 2/3 of its clients are now all-inclusive, something which British travellers are not told. That has changed its target customer base completely and makes this not a place for a couple looking for a quiet hotel. A shame, because its location is great - although a car is probably a necessity.

The biggest gripe is with the food, which is poor quality and poorly cooked. The Maitre D proudly told us he was in charge of the kitchen - which is a disaster because he clearly knows nothing about food. It's a formula set of menus with little variation.

This hotel needs a chef who cares about food and its preparation - without that, it is not a hotel I would recommend to anyone.

This hotel is a good choice for a relaxing break. Travelled with my husband and 2 children plus my father and partner. It is true the family rooms are small and need refurbing. However my fathers room on the second floor had been refurbed and was of a better standard. Location is remote you need to hire a car or arrange some trips if you don't want to sit around the pool all day.

Food is good and lots of greek dishes, usual pasta choices for the children and those less adventurous adults. Note that the hotel also runs all inclusive which you can choose to upgrade to, we took our trips and then upgraded (20 euro a day 10 for children).

Jan and able female assistants worked very hard keeping adults and children entertained during the day and evening and did a good job. If you want bright lights and crowds dont go, if you want a relaxing break with genuine friendly staff then go!

Have never written on here before but I read everyone's reviews befofd leaving and so was a bit worried! I needn't have been - it was fantastic and I echo everything that the chap from Sheffield says. We travelled with our 18month old daughter and my mother who was celebrating her 70th. Everyone was so friendly (including all the guests we met who were lovely too), the food was great and hot too (unsual for a buffet). Although I would have liked more fresh fruit and proper juices not squash!) The pool was lovely and warm and the beach excellent for our baby. In fact we travelled to all the beaches on the island but some were very rough and stony so XI beach was in fact the best! Beautiful island and you can explore the whole island easily with a car. Everyone says how remote the hotel is but it really isn't plus with all the developments going on it wont be for long....

Firstly I would like to say that I have worked in travel for 12 years......and therefore think I will be able to give an honest appraisal of this hotel but all I have to say is that this has to be the worst place I have stayed in and I have stayed in many 2 star sc apartments.
The rooms are small, dirty un equipped and need the biggest re vamp ever!! The bunk beds in the family rooms actually block the doorway to your entrance.
The pool area is disgraceful and the pool is filthy. The sunbeds and parasols have not been changed in many many years.
The restaurant is average, the food repetitive and staff un friendly.
The entertainment is not great but typically average.
On a massive plus for this hotel the beach is fantastic and there is a really lovely taverna serving fresh food for lunch or dinner and the staff are amazing. Highly recommended.
I can honeslty say that I would never ever return here even if I got it as a free trip through work.
I travelled with my husband, 2 young children aged 2 and 4 and a 12 year old.

Me and my husband got back from here on Sunday and i honestly wish we could have stayed longer. We went for 10 days for our honeymoon and we couldnt have picked a more perfect place. Kefalonia itself is an absolutely gorgeous island, the water is so clear and blue, the weather is hot and there is lots to see and do. The Cephalonia Palace Hotel is lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is really good too. The rooms are cleaned every day with fresh sheets and towelled supplied everyday too. We went Half Board although they do cater for All Inclusive as well. As a vegetarian myself i sometimes worry about the amount of choice available but they catered well for both vegetarians and meat eaters as well. The bar is open late at the pool so if you do want to stay around the hotel all evening you can do although there are some lovely bars along the sea front down the beach in particular The Dolphin Taverna and Fishbones. I would thoroughly reccommend coming here and i know we will definitley be back in the future.

We spent a week here from 18th June 2009. We had read the mixed reviews and were not expecting anything outstanding. When we landed in Kefalonia, we were met by the holiday rep, put on a coach, taken to the ferry across to Lixouri, left here to deal with our own luggage and then was met on the other side by the taxi driver who took us to the hotel. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient and the rooms were totally adequate. Ours was very clean, cleaned daily even the bedding and everything worked.
The air con was a god send !
The restaurant staff were excellent, all spoke good english and very attentive. The choice was very good and very tasty. We travelled with a 3 year old, and she had plenty of choice also.
The only problem we came across was the amount of eastern european holiday makers that made it in their way to get to the pool by 6am each morning to reserve sun loungers and not use them until around 2pm. This was a pool rule, that none be reserved, but the hotel staff did not do anything about it until told, and then they did remove the towels, which almost caused WW3 !!!
Jan and Denisa, the animation staff were excellent, for young kids and adults who wanted to do activities during the day. But they never pushed it or made you feel as though you had to join in if like us, you would rather sit back and relax. Our daughter unfortunately was love struck on Jan and loved the mini disco each evening !!
The location is very poor if you want to walk to neighbouring tavernas/shops as there is nothing around. This suited us as we wanted peace. Try the clay from the beach, supposed to take 10 years off you ! we brought bags full home !
The taxi ride to lixouri costs 10 euros and drops you at the square.. The ferry ride is about 3 euros each way if you want to go to agastolli and takes around 20 mins.

In summary, if you want a peaceful holiday, this is it. Be tough with the sun lounger rule. But that aside, a very nice hotel, excellent staff and a fantastic holiday. Would consider going back and would definately recommend this hotel if anyone wanted a totally relaxing break.
