“Very enjoyable stay in Altes Pfarrhaus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

We stayed here for three nights in June. This small family-run business is very much okay. Both our room and bathroom were comfortable, nicely appointed and quite spacious. We had a second floor room on the front of the house with a view of the river.
Breakfast was very good, including made to order eggs, fresh fruit and nice croissants and fresh rolls.
The outside garden/terrace is nicely laid out with lounge furniture and is good place to have a drink and relax.
Dinner is fine, but nothing fancy or special. Price/quality ratio is excellent.
Only con: traffic on the main road is rather obtrusive sometimes. So if you are a light sleeper or want to sleep in, bring ear plugs.
For a nice trip in the area: go to the little village of Beilstein (five minutes down the road), marvel at its medieval houses, do a winetasting in the Zehnthauskeller, then go for lunch/dinner at the Kloster-Restaurant. They have a nice outside terrace with beautiful views of the Mosel river (if it rains: they have a nice Wintergarden and restaurant.) Their home-made cakes are to die for. Try the lemon cheesecake.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are more quiet.

We were two couples travelling together who spent one night at this hotel in Ernst, near Cochem in the Mosel Valley. It's a lovely hotel with reasonably spacious rooms, many overlooking the Mosel River. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very functional. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace overlooking the river and had a great dinner out at a local Gasthaus. Followed by wine-tasting at one of the many wine-tasting rooms along the main street. Breakfast was the traditional cheeses, meats and breads as well as the offer of an egg made to order. Unlimited coffee was available from carafes and the dining room was very pleasantly decorated. This was a nice, affordable place to stay in what is clearly a desirable tourist destination. As it's on the main road, be aware traffic starts early and can be a bit noisy if you have left your window open.

We first came to this hotel three years ago after our regular hotel nearby was fully booked - what a lucky break that was. Rob & Claudia have been wonderful hosts every year since, ably assisted by their staff including Maria. The rooms are very nicely presented, the restaurant/bar is great and the location is unbeatable. The hotel is in Ernst which is a picturesque but quiet little village which is only a 10 minute bus ride to Cochem, that offers everything a tourist could desire. Overall, highly recommended.

We stayed for four nights during a two week holiday of Germany and France. The Hotel had the feeling of an upmarket Bed and Breakfast, not the cold, business like feel of a large hotel. Although it`s next to a road, we did not find this obtrusive in any way and it certainly did not stop us enjoying the beautiful terrace, with the lovely view of the Mosel
( and the brilliant local wines!).
The kids (10 and 13) had a non Mosel view room, even though you could still see the river, and loved every minute of it. Our Mosel view, long stay room, was great and superbly serviced every day. The restaurant at the hotel was excellent and good value. nearby Cochem is a nice old town with a great Castle. Also a handy Railway station which connects to the larger cities etc. All in all, a brilliant stay and we will look to stay again.

This is a beautiful family run guest house right on the Mosel. They were moderately friendly to non german speaking americans(we do try, but don't speak so well), the rooms were large, modern and VERY clean. They have a wonderful patio with tables and umbrellsa out front along with comfy couches where you can enjoy some local made wine while the sun sets. The best part of this is the little town. My husband and I walked around the little town looking at all the cute homes/wineries. Several families where biking along the Mosel as well as hiking.

Note - the family runs and lives at the hotel/house so there are kids around but they were very well behaved

We did not eat at the restaurant. Breakfast was just ok - typical European breakfast of meats and cheeses with some bread and pastries BUT....they served fresh milk that was not strained so it actually clumped (fromt he fat I guess) ontop of your cereal - this would not work for most american kids.

At checkout we were overcharged by 63 euro - we caught it and she quickly fixed the problem but we felt "lucky" that we were paying attention.
