“How can you articulate a place like this?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

This place and places like this are something that everyone should see. It shows what we are all capable of you sit there and say it couldn't be me but the whole nation of Germany participated in this, many because they feared for there own life. The fact that even after the ww2 this camp was used by the soviets demonstrates how human nature sadly doesn't change. Such cunning and well planned hatered is a disgrace. Well worth the visit.

“Chilling place to go”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

I didn't want to go to a concentration camp on my vacation, but my husband really wanted to go to one. It was really hard to think about the atrocities and know you're walking where people suffered and died. But it is important to remember. We spent about 3 hours there, but we were really rushing. There is a lot to see and read. It was a bit traumatizing and depressing.

“A memorable tour by tourinsider guide - Maria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Your tour guide Maria, gave my family a personal tour of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and Memoial on our about July 8, 2013. She did an outstanding job of not just showing us about the camp, but shared with us her thorough knowledge of the camp history and the camp role in the system of terrible camps operated by Germany during World War II. Maria was completely conversant about Sachsenhausen and had done additional personal research about the camp and about many of the victims and survivors which added substantiallly to the educational merit of the tour. Sachsenhsusen and Maria made a profound impact on our family and particularly our teenage children, which was major objective of the day. When we returned to Berlin, she was able to direct us to a historic site we could have never found without her expert direction. Thanks to Mariea for one of the most memorable days of our family visit to Germany and France. Lawrence D. Hughes, Christina Frank, Lauren and Alex

“Bring your imagination and patience to listen to the tour audio”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

There's really not that much left of the original camp buildings but what there is is worth visiting. Allow at least three hours if you're going to fully utilize the audio guide. We couldn't help noticing that the Berlin area is replete with evidence of Germany's checkered 20th century history which seems to be deliberately kept front and center. We took the S-Bahn from central Berlin (E3.10 each way through suburbs and countryside) and walked from the station. It's hard to understand the scale of Sachsenhausen until you visit. Seeing this museum and memorial does add a whole extra level of understanding of the history books and movies. Certainly an educational activity rather than entertainment.

“Harrowing and informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Very creepy place, steeped in history. I would recommend the walk from the train station to the camp, as it's the way the original prisoners walked and there are information signs along the way. It's a 15-20 minutes but very interesting and pretty.
