“Lovely family hotel on the edge of the Black Forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011

We spent 3 nights here to explore the Black Forest and although it was further away from the main tourist Black forest area than we had thought, it turned out to be a really good choice. Without satnav it would have been tricky to find but our trusty TomTom took us to the door. Bedecked with flowers, it was very welcoming with ample car parking. It really is a family affair with Mum and Dad running the place and Grandma and Grandad helping. They and the other staff were all very friendly and helpful although only the proprietor, Tomas, speaks good English. There are no lifts and no aircon but this wasn't a problem for us. Our room on the 2nd floor was spacious, spotless, comfortable and very pleasant in a traditional style. Breakfast was a delight-basically typical continental style but with local produce, very fresh and with soft bolied eggs in woolly-chicken egg-cosies-a nice touch. We had dinner there each night and the food was excellent although translating the German-only menu was a challenge. Our delightful waitress tried very hard and we had a good laugh getting the food sorted out! It's obviously a popular place to eat with the locals-a good sign. There is also a smallish patio area outside for drinks etc.

Tomas gave us some suggestions for places to visit along with a map and they all worked out brilliantlyl. In 3 days we covered most of the beautiful areas of the Black Forest with its gorgeous old towns and villages and overall we had a wonderful stay.

My wife and I had been looking forward to our stay in the Black Forest and thought that this might be an ideal location close to Freiburg. It is tucked away and at first we were a little angry about the location. The distance from Freiburg was given as 10kms. It was much further and a good ride on the Autobahn. The crowing of a nearby cock gave us thoughts of early morning slumbers being disturbed by a rowdy cockerel in the early hours, but he was locked away with his companion hens and did not disturb us.

However, the place grew on us and was possibly made up by the ample breakfast and the excellent dinners. Generally the place was busy with guests but was sufficiently big a place as to not get under each other's feet.

Apart from the location, which in the end was not a problem, the rooms were a bit dark and the bathroom particularly so. More high wattage bulbs more strategically placed to give better light for us who need to see better. Also, there was no English speaking TV channel and for an International clientele at least BBC World or CNN is a "must".

All in all we enjoyed our stay and the family and staff were attentive and likeable.

Room Tip: Probably at the back away from the front of hotel car parking. Be sure to reserve a "No Smoking...

My wife, three year old son and I stayed at this is a wonderful family run hotel located in a quiet area around 15 to 20 kilometers north of Freiburg. That being said, I would only recommend it to those with an automobile as there is little in terms of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. And I’m not too sure how convenient it would be to use public transportation to get to and from the hotel either. I imagine it would also make a nice stop for those touring the area on their bicycles.

The on site restaurant served a complimentary buffet breakfast which was a really nice way to start our mornings as we could hit the road on our day trips without having to stop somewhere first. We used it as a base to visit the Hasenhorn Rodelbahn, Titisee-Neustadt, Triberg, Villingen-Schwenningen and points in between.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, I especially loved the weather-light huge pillows. Breakfast is plentiful, mixing local and home made products with standard items, and delicious. It was a pity to stay only for one night, as the hospitable owners will make you want to stay longer. In case around that area again, I will definitely return.
Also hotel is close to the A5 highway and beats anytime staying in Formula1 or other highway motels.

This family run establishment was the best place we stayed at during our 2 week Europe tour. Their included breakfast was beautifully displayed and offered several choices. I do generally avoid eatting at my hotels but dinner there was so enjoyable we ate at the restaurant every night. They were helpful and the rooms were nice, the atmosphere of the entire place was wonderful.
