“A gem turned charcoal”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2014

A very old hotel extremely well located. Downtown - a few feet from the harbour, the market and the center of town. Nested in the middle of a quiet garden. The building dating from a long while back is sturdy, and offers a warm 19th century look rather than the modern cold building block aspect of new constructions. There ends the positive. No investment has been made since the building was built. No elevators and no one to help you take the bags up or down. The rooms of decent size are equipped with non functionning AC. The carpet is worn.
The very small bathroom has a small shower with a curtain which is of no real use to protect from projection of water. Fortunately for the owner there is very little water pressure and it takes for ever for warm water to reach. If you check in for several days save soap it will not be replenished. When I enquired about that I was told soap is a welcome amenity. We will only give you a new one if
you ask....
The TV remote did not work and there was a hand written note on the set advising the customer to turn the TV on and off by pushing the button on the TV.
Breakfast is continental. It consists of excellent croissants, pain au chocolat and bread. Some days some fruit. No cheese, no ham , no egg.
It is like the world ended in the middle of the 20th century.
If the place was revived it could be a very nice hotel. It seems that it is not the present strategy.

This is an old and tired property, not quite what the name or the brochure describe. Adequate would describe it best but fair value for money. The rooms we were given, and there might be better, were basic. Our a/c didn't work but we were given an electric fan immediately.
The staff did their best to please. Like everywhere in France today staffing levels are inadequate and it can be hard to find someone at the front desk as the receptionist could be waitressing at the same time. One does need to be a little patient and remember - after about 10pm there seems to be nobody in attendance and, of course nobody to open the entrance door so don't forget the code they give you when checking in!
There is no lift and we had to carry our own suitcases up several floors, the advertised free wi-fi seems to be in the "lounge" only - it hardly deserves that description.
Having said that, there were 9 of us and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast on the pergola. If one doesn't want to eat in the hotel there is a pleasant restaurant adjacent. Another bonus is available parking in the grounds and parking is at a premium in Sanary during the season.
We were all quite happy there and would return. My advice is don't expect luxury, this would cost a lot more in France. Enjoy what the property has to offer and don't be impatient because of what they don't have.

After reading many extremely poor reports, I wondered if I was an idiot to book. I was pleasantly surprised!
The room was clean, tastefully decorated and (nearly) everything worked well.
The location was superb.
The staff were helpful and charming.
Yes, there was an element of faded elegance, but that added to the charm.
Go for it!

Room Tip: Book earlier (for discount) and choose room with terrace (e.g.6).

The staff here is beneath contempt and the hotel is shabby with no hot water, no water pressure and the rooms are a great disappointment in comparison to the pictures.

1. Don’t arrive at night. This hotel does not light the exterior. Even as we stood in front of hotel, asking 3 locals who were there smoking and chatting, the location of the hotel was unknown.

2. The staff was unhelpful and condescending. We arrived very tired after a long drive and discovering that it was impossible to check into our residence hotel on a Wednesday. We were warned that hot water took some time. Hot water was non-existent. The bathroom uses the single-lever idiot-control for the tap that one must turn to one side or the other for full hot water or cold. The fixture was mounted in an awkward fashion so that it was not obvious which way was the direction for hot. After 10 min. at each extreme, there was not hot water. I went to the desk to complain. “You must wait!” she snapped, and started counting by tapping her arm slowly, “1, 2, 3.” I explained that I waited 10 min. on each side to which she repeated her command to wait. 45 min. later, I again returned to her for the same result. We slept until morning and tried the water again for an hour; nothing.

Further negatives: The parking lot is in such disrepair that we were afraid of grounding our car or hurting ourselves. The water flow is absurdly slow; despite this, the sink barely drains. There are no elevators. Finally, on our exit, we warned two people checking in that they shouldn’t stay at this hotel; we heard the desk clerk laugh as we exited.

Room Tip: choose one at another hotel.

I am sorry you were so unhappy.
it is difficult to answer to such comments as I do not recognize my hotel.
It is also surprising that people do not know our hotel as it was built in 1890 and it is one of the most popular hotel in the region with Hotel de la Tour.

Even if three are always things to improve, we have a very friendly staff.

In order to stay polite, I prefer stop my answer here.

A newly renovated hotel, where each room had it's own design. We got a spacious room with a cool style.
The room was clean. Good beds and bathroom.
We did not try the breakfast (an extra charge), since the hotel was very close to the city and harbour with plenty of nice restaurants

I stayed at the hotel in july 2013 with my parents. We had a hotel room with three beds. Our room was very clean and so was the shower and toilet. We had very comfortable beds and a satisfying breakfast. I will recommend the hotel to other people.

The hotel needs major maintenance. The elevator does not work, the doors are hard to open/close, we had to request the pillows. The beds were hospital beds, so we were wondering where they bought them from!
We are contacting our credit card company.
It is not fair to the customers. The photos do not show the real status of the hotel.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel
