A friend had recommended Lisa M after having an amazing dining experience there early this summer. We decided to take her recommendation, and do it one better by staying the night at Lisa M as well. Infrequently have I seen such attention to detail in a restaurant or guesthouse; the owner, Lisa M, deserves high praise for her high standards in both regards.
First, the guesthouse: wow. This is a charming former schoolhouse that has been transformed into a warm place to relax by the pool/large roman bath, sip cocktails by the fireplace, and enjoy the freedom of rolling into a comfortable bed after a long, delicious meal. We had two rooms for the four off us that were traveling together. Both rooms were well-appointed and had huge bathrooms, and one of the rooms was nicely secluded, accessed via the building's roof deck that was full of comfy lounging furniture and where we had breakfast in the morning. A church next door tolls its bells until 10 or so at night, and thankfully silences them until 7 or so in the morning; very charming. Lisa M and her staff could not have been more accommodating, and spoke english fluently.
The restaurant was more of the same spectacular experience: ambiance was amazing, food was amazing, service was amazing. Our waiter, Sebastian, really made the experience as memorable as it was - his introductions to each course, assistance with wine selection, and overall demeanor were perfect. Lisa M is also the chef, and what a chef she is! The flavors of each course were so delicate and flavorful, the presentation was so artistic, and the portions were ideal. Oh, and the bread - made in-house daily - is over the top; I never knew bread could taste like this. Cheeses were wonderful, as was the dessert, and we had a unique, delicious rhubarb dessert wine to top it off.
Kudos to Lisa M and her staff for such wonderful management of a dual guesthouse and restaurant. I would highly recommend Lisa M to the discerning traveler staying in/passing through Pont du Gard or Uzes.
