“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2010

We booked this accomodation because of the positive reviews on Trip advisor, so maybe our expectations were a little high before arriving. However we found the accomodation to be disappointing over all.
The downstairs living space is extremely dark, even on the sunniest of days, as there is limited light coming from the single window and door. This lack of natural light wasn't evident from the available photo's and something we were surprised to find when we arrived. The views from the property were of the barn, not of Mont St Michel, which can only be seen from the rooms in the B&B.
Each gite does have it's own outside space with garden furniture, but we thought the grounds were poorly maintained and you certainly wouldn't walk anywhere outside without shoes on, as the chickens and ducks had access to all the outdoor areas, as did the sheep from time to time.
We stayed in the Romarin and the double bed is shorter than the standard 6ft. We didn't measure the exact length, but it appeared to be nearer 5ft 8inches. Also the upstairs floors slope quiet a bit, which gives the double bed the unusual characteristic of having the foot of the bed higher than the head. We ended up correcting this on the second night by using several books from the bookcase to raise the head of the bed.
Information on services & facilities locally was forthcoming from Henri, when you asked specific questions, but general information about the area wasn't forthcoming otherwise. There was no information pack in the gite, or brochures on things to so, which we have found to be common with other rentals.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at this gorgeous bed and breakfast surrounded by stone walls and beautiful flowers. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was modern and clean. The breakfast and dinner were generous and delicious. Ingredients for dinner came straight from the b&b's garden and our host went out of his way to find us local cheeses to sample. We loved the non-touristy location near to the Mont St. Michel.

Cannot praise highly enough. Perfect location for Mont St Michel and exploring Northern Brittany's coastline and easy to get to from Cherbourg/St Malo ferry ports. We stayed in the room 'Chocolat' and it was superb with views out of the roof windows across to St Michel and the stars peeping in at night. The most massive and best bed ever enusured perfect rest. High quality bathroom and plenty of storage space. In addition we also had use of a lovely lounge area which is very tasteful and a nice place to sip a glass of wine in the evenings. We were well looked after by Henri and Ruth with good breakfasts and an excellent evening meal on one of the nights of our stay. To top it all, it was a delight to spend time within the natural environment and meet the sheep, pigs and chickens and of course the wonderful Frodo who is a star. Plenty to do and see including the coastline, Mont St Michel (of course) and the little villages. We walked miles on quiet roads and cycled along the 'digues' of the Polders, discovered a taste for the local cider (hic) , ate the freshest mussels and felt a million miles from the stresses of life. We would also recommend the Pizza restaurant 'Le Rustique' nearby where we had a wonderful evening with good food and service - ideal for all. All in all La Ferme de la Baie is one not to be missed. Put this place on your 'must do' list and enjoy

We went to La Ferme de la Baie from Norway and England to have a family reunion and celebrate Dave's 70th. 14 all together from age 2 to 70 had a fantastic holiday in this lovely place. Plenty of room for everyone, inside and outside. We rented the whole farmhouse and one cottage, everything immaculatly clean.Had lovely meals in the kitchen with room enough for all of us around the table. And late evenings outside with a glas of wine. As we were so many together we did not need other nightlife. We thorougly enjoyed the farmlife, with all the animals and outdoor activities. We went to see the fantastic Le Mont St. Michel. We also went to the beach by Cancale, St. malo and The Omaha beach and D-day museums. Ruth and Henry were perfect hosts, very helpful and nice. Ruth cooked us a delicious french meal on our last night. As this was a very special holiday to us we were lucky to be in such a wonderful place. Thank You from all of us, Unni and David Rose

As I believe some great sage once said (or was it Henry?) "keep the kids happy and the parents are happy too". Our boys were 5 and 6 and had the rare and priceless freedom of being able to get up each day and safely wander out into the fields and gardens to gather eggs, feed the sheep etc. We didn't spend all day every day just sitting around outside the cottage, but we could easily have done. The highlight of the stay had to be an evening visit to Mont St Michel: I'm sure it's breath-taking anytime, but with the spotlights on and the atmosphere of night, it was magic.Driving around the area was a joy compared to horrid English roads: some fab beaches, great cheap wine, castles, markets, bike rides, beach yachts.. .......such a lot to see and such a relaxed place to be. And now with the added bonus of pigs! Fantastic: book it----you'll have no regrets.

We stayed at La Ferme de la Baie for a couple of weeks in Aug - Sept 2007. The present owners had not had it long and we had an utterly splendid time.
Our two kids (at the time 4 1/2 and 18 months) enjoyed the chickens and sheep. The property was suitable for little ones, with no worries such as unfenced ponds, although some of the fencing from one property to another could be better. The local area's got plenty to do - obvious stuff like Mont St Michel (which we found to be not very child friendly; we're obviously heathens) to days on the fantastic beach at Parame, just outside St Malo.
Henry and Ruth (and Frodo the dog) couldn't do enough for us (yet were never intrusive), and we would have come back the following year if we could.

  • Liked — It was very family-centric with animals for the kids.
  • Disliked — It was not within walking distance of a shop or bar etc.
