Thanks reviewers for helping us discover Ziza, we would never have found it otherwise!!! A ten minute taxi ride from Supetar, you would never have thought such an amazing restaurant could be lurking literally in someone's back garden! We were greeted with an aperitif of homemade limoncello, and some treats all from Ziza's garden!
The tables are all on the terrace, overlooking Supetar with the lights of Split in the distance across the water., We missed the sunset, but plan on returning one day to see what must be an amazing sight!
It'#s a family affair at Ziza, but the service is brilliant. We were guided through the menu - which isn't extensive at all - and then talked through an amazing array of specials. Everything we ordered came from the latter, they were just irresistible. Grilled mussels, then a beef goulash with gnocchi, in the most beautiful rich, sweet, gravy laced with prunes. This was one of only two times during our two weeks in Croatia that my husband demanded of a waitress how to cok something - although whether he'll spend the hours that apparently went into this beef, I'm not sure! We also tried lamb chops from the grill, again delicious. We were recommended to have some fried potatos and a salad by our waitress - a perfect choice as well!
By dessert we would have ordered anything she suggested - we had that much faith in her suggestions. She said "try cake", so cake we did try. And boy, was it a good call! HUbby is a connoisseur of chocolate cake, and he confidently declares their homemade chocolate cake is the best he has ever, ever tasted. I tried to order creme caramel originally, but was dire3cted away from that to the homemade orange cake - a beautifully moist, sweet cake, with a thick layer of chocolate ganache on top. Heaven on a plate!
We left with a bag of figs from the garden, and a bottle of their homemade olive oil that we bought for a hugely reasonable price. The whole meal was the most reasonable we had in Croatia - and way up there with the best!
You may have to make an effort ton get to Ziza, rtather than strolliung down the front in Supetar, but boy is it worth it!
