Stayed at Alpha One for five nights. Checked in by the only english speaking staff member. Room was rather small which is typical in Japan but just big enough to open 2 suitcases. The double bed is hard up against a wall. Mattress firm and pillows hard with some sort of plastic beads inside them? Toilet had all the bells and whistles you expect in Japan / with shower over the bathtub small but adequate. Amenities were good quality including "special ladies pack" provided at reception upon arival.
The room we had overlooked the harbour and had an opening window so we did not require the use of the air conditioner. The unnecessary trouser press took up valuable space.
Internet was cable type, which was fast but I needed to purchase a joiner and extra cable from the 100 yen shop nearby to get my laptop far enough away from the TV screen.
Breakfast was a combination of local and western food. Dont expect cereal or toast.
No minibar but drinks including beer can be purchased from the vending machines on each floor. Ice available on each floor as well. Coke is not available in the hotel vending machines but should be purchased from a machine down the street or a convenience store 1 minite by bike. Dont bother bringing duty free drinks to Japan as the local prices for international drinks are cheaper than duty free.
The hotel has several lockable basic bikes for free rental. Its definitely the way to get around Onomichi, just like most of the locals do.
To find the hotel walk straight out of the JR Station and go right through a walkway with department store and past the carpark. Turn right but dont go in the underpass. The hotel is then on your left. The sign on top of the building says a-1.
