“Day trip is hit or miss - nice if their boat will take you as promised”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Had a fantastic day trip from Cartagena last fall. Small but very nice beach and good food and drinks, along with boat service over. Was looking forward to returning this past trip and was left on the dock in cartagena with a friend when we refused to pay extra to board for the overcrowded boat. Hard to enjoy a trip when your day plans are wrecked by a greedy boat captain who wants to line his pockets extra due to a busy day. Will not attempt this one again.

Room Tip: I would not prepay for this under any circumstances - wait to pay at the resort to ensure you are st...

We did the day trip as recommended by friends, about 100 USD each. Pick up from hotel and left about 9am. There was a strange archaic drinks system on board, one guy very slowly took drink ordersnand painstakingly copied the order onto carbon paper, very slow.
Island was nice, beaches small but ok and the lunch was good too.
Therre were Lots of activities you could do but as we arrived about 1020 and were having lunch at 12-2 we didnt feel we had time. Slightly hassled by vendors but ok.
We had to leave at 315 due to an oncoming rainnstorm. Overall, a good day but at 5 hours it didnt seem long enough for 100. We have done similar and cheaper trips in Asia and got much better value andservice there.

We went on the day trip and were pretty impressed with the organization of everything. The lunch was simple yet delicious- the fish grilled to perfection. There is nothing to do buy hang out at the not very large beaches, but it is relaxing. The boat ride out is also nice as you see Cartagena from the bay as well as Boca Chica. If you have a free day and want to get to know the beaches, go for it.

This is a beautiful hotel to stay for a couple of days. We got a very nice room and hotel employees were very friendly. The scenery is impressive with great sea views and beautiful trees. Restaurant is good (order fish, not meat).
We walked around the island and talked to some locals, it seams that the hotel does not contribute much to welfare of the local communities (the workers and even the souvenir sellers are from Baru or Cartagena). But there was no problem going out of the hotel grounds and there were even some local guides with maps of the island. We took a night swim in the enchanted lagoon which is right next to the hotel, recommended! And if you want to go snorkling, approach one of the men on the pier (if you ask at the reception, you will pay three times as much).

The pros: it is a very simple hotel on a remote island which is perfect if you want to rest for a couple of days since there is not much to do and it is very quiet. The sea is beautiful and there is always a nice breeze. Dont expect anything fancy but the rooms are very decent, clean and comfortable - at least the suite that we had. We also checked the junior suites which were nice too but smaller. The food is very good (although very pricy and the menu does not change).
The cons: there is no hot water in the rooms (which is fine for two days). The two beaches are very small and - at least when we were there - the water was dirty. In addition, there are always at least 3 locals on the beach trying to sell you their stuff which is annoying when you want to rest. The service is not good. Some of the staff try to make an effort but others are simply unpleasant. Finally I was extremely chocked because they keep two poor dogs in a 10 M2 fenced cage all day long. I complained and they did not take my query seriously. They replied that these dogs are watch dogs that go out at night...
If you are in Carthegene it is fine to stay there for one or two nights to rest and do some snorkeling but not more than that.

The island and surrounding water are really nice and the hotel is fine for a quick
stay. The hotel rooms are clean and generally nice, but nothing to write home about.
The food is also pretty good, but not great.

But, my family and I had a very enjoyable visit to the island and I would give my stamp
of approval assuming you realize that it is not the Four Season Majagua....

The service for this hotel is extremely bad! The front desk people don't really cater to foreigners and their check-in system where they bring you to the hotel, and then make you wait in the lobby for two hours is awful!!!! They sell it as a romantic destination, but it is nothing of the sort... I do not recommend this hotel... You are much better off staying in Cartgena....

Room Tip: Stay in the mainland!
