“Good stop-over between Queenstown & Christchurch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

As a stopover, Peppers is expensive but a good place to stay. The apartment is roomy, comfortable & clean. Only thing that we found weird was that the living room & kitchen were on the second floor.

We only wanted to stay one night in Tekapo, but there is very little choice of good quality accommodation in this town for families (couples seem well catered for with small motels/B&Bs) so we ended up staying at Peppers. Even though there weren't many people staying at the hotel that night, they only offered us a two bedroom apartment for $290 (for one night). We didn't get a "lake view" room as that was $30 more, but we found we could still see a good part of the lake from out living room, so that was nice. The apartment was excellent - two bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs and a large open plan kitchen/dining/living room upstairs. There were heat pumps in both bedrooms and upstairs, plus a lovely gas fire in the main lounge area. The apartment fittings and furniture were very good quality and we enjoyed staying there, but it was a bit wasted on just one overnight stay! The restaurant food was quite average yet expensive. One thing that I felt let the hotel down was the 2% surcharge for paying by credit card! Not many places charge a fee for that and I felt it just made the hotel seem greedy after I'd already paid a lot for staying there.

The backdrop of Lake Tekapo and snow covered mountains made this place feel special. Accomodation is spread out in separate cabins so it doesn't feel big or crowded. The restaurant provides great food and service.

Lake Tekapo is a nice quiet little town on the way to the ski fields, with some spectacular local scenery. The hotel facilities are modern, and very comfortable. We didn't try the hotel restaurant, as the town had a great selection of cafes and restaurants - all a short 5 minute walk from our room.

We stayed here for one night as a stopover from Queenstown to Christchurch. One night was enough time to have a look around and visit the thermal pools. It was very quiet when we went and the resort didn't look very busy so it lacked a bit of atmosphere. But it was lovely. Our room was very nice, biggest bathroom I've ever seen in a resort, and we've stayed at lots. I can't remember what room type we had, but it had views of the lake. Can't complain about this resort at all. We'd definately stay here again. A good choice if you can get a good rate like we did.

We will return to explore the area more, due to being there for a business conference leisure time was limited.
Our meals were wonderful thanks, great staff & service during our stay
Need to improve wine list along with a sauna & gym in house.
Thanks again for your wonderful care and attention over the three nights we stayed.

We had enjoyed our 5 night stay at Peppers Beacon in Queenstown and expected the same standard at Peppers Bluewater Resort where we stayed for one night on our way to Christchurch. We found the village of Lake Tekapo beautiful with its gorgeous blue lake and views to Mount Cook and the Southern Alps. We enjoyed the Grand Traverse flight with Air Safaris and the evening stargazing at Mount John - both amazing experiences - but the hotel did not meet expectation. Firstly its signage is poor, the car park is not organised, our reception was casual and lacked warmth. The public rooms - reception, bar and restaurant are just one open plan area having no atmosphere. Our first impression of our room was the smell - an impression that the drains had overflowed nearby. The room was well furnished but not plush. We only ate breakfast at Peppers Bluewater and that was average.

A visit to Lake Tekapo is a must but the impression of Peppers Bluewater is that it is a recently opened establishment where the management still have work to do.
