“Nice Location but need to fix shower”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2006

Driving from a to b in New Zealand is quite far due to a speed limit and distance. I don't want to over drive, long period driving time. I, therefore, choosed the hotel. I better stay here rather than in the Mt. Cook. This small village, Lake Tekapo, has restaurants and gas station convenience store.

My family stay in two rooms, one on the lake view and the other on the ground. I think the room is ok. The room is much bigger comparing to a swiss chalet hotel. The facilities are good comparing to another hotel. I read review here before staying there but I feel that the hotel is a lot better than a review, clean room, nice staff, and new electrical soccet. They may work upon the review

The only complain would be the shower, the water does not have enough pressure to make a shower flowing strong. The shower holder has a scratch that bruised my hand. If they could fix the water pressure problem and change the shower holder, I would have move to average or higher.

For an overnight stay hotel is OK...BOOK a lake view room as they have been SLIGHTY updated (newish Bathrooms). Room felt dirty (stained carpet, aweful curtains) at least the linen and towels were clean. Bring ear plugs as you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the room next door...including snoring!

For Dinner you're best going to Pepe's Pizza which is right next door. There is a Bakery next to the Fuel Station that cooks a good cheap breakfast and makes great coffee.

Just look out the window and admire the view, you'll soon forget about the décor!

Stayed here for 2 nights during my honeymoon in March 2006.

The hotel is over-priced for the aged feel of the place - especially the phone calls back to the UK! Our room was ok but we had a cracked basin and generally it looked tired.

The buffet breakfast wasn't very appetising and expensive at $15 a head.

The communal hot tub was nice, but our time was far better spent on a fantastic trip over the Mount Cook region with Tekapo Helicopters and just sitting and watching the lake.

We stayed at this hotel on 10 March 2006. I booked the hotel based upon the description given on the Internet and had paid AUD $186 in advance for the room inclusive of a cooked breakfast for two. We could not believe the room!! The electrical socket into which the TV was plugged did not work but now wonder - it was hanging from the wall with the wires showing - so dangerous! There were a multitude of stains on the carpet, the sink in the bathroom was badly cracked, the cistern was noisy, the shower was rusty and dirty. This has to be the worst place I have ever stayed in anywhere. Thank god we were only staying for one night. Needless to say we did not have dinner in the hotel - not prepared to risk it! The breakfast was very good but @ $30 per head it should have been. I would not recommend this hotel under any circumstance until the management does as it promises in its literature and that is totally renovate the place to a suitable standard. Until that time the Godley Resort should be re-named the GodAWFUL Resort!

Hadn't booked ahead so the Godley Resort hotel was the only place we could find. It cost NZD 90 and we were given the choice of one of the last few rooms they had. All were described as needing an update, but were truly awful despite being poolside. The feel of the rooms were Swiss Chalet like, but the decor was far from anything Swiss and more like that from the set of a movie crime scene set in a seedy American motel from a the wrong side of the 70's. The room we stayed in had no curtain on one window, a TV with one corner smashed and broken, a loo with a broken cistern that kept hissing all night, a stained bath and basin, and no usable shower. There were electric blankets, but you were fearful of electricution in your sleep as their age and the sockets and controls had seen better days - many many better days.
Basically I wouldn't recommend this place to my dog. The staff were pleasant but unwilling to give extra value despite the failings of the rooms. Don't go here!

This hotel is nicely located right on the lake front, and offers large rooms and laundry facilities, an in house restaurant that was so so, and attractive grounds. Good as a stopover when driving between Christchurch and Queenstown.

When I wrote to book a room here I was told I might not like the budget rooms, and they were right. It was very old and in need of refurbishment. We looked at the much more expensive rooms and took one for the night. It had a fabulous view of the lake, and the room was ok, just a regular hotel room, newer and clean. There is really nothing to do there in the town after looking at the lake and the little chapel and our TV only had 2 channels to watch. There was a note in the room saying that they had poor reception as they were in a valley however, what's wrong with satellite TV in this day and age? We decided to eat breakfast for a smaller price at a small place down the street. When we got back to get our luggage we found the automatic door key wouldn't work. We hadn't checked out yet and found out that 10 AM was the check-out time-were to find that this is the norm in many places in NZ. We had to go to the desk to get a key so we could get our luggage. The people were nice at the hotel but I wish we had continued on to Timaru on the coast, not much further a drive. It is a town with alot more to do.
