“Tacky, run down and definitely not 5 star.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

I had high hopes of Lisson Grove and was sadly dissapointed. We stayed in the irish themed room for a romantic night away from my baby for the first time. I have to admit - the room did look a little kitsch on the website but on arrival we found that it was awfully tacky - with peeling wallpaper, ancient furniture and bed and rusty window fittings. Even the kitchen was old and the kitchen wear was crappy too. This would be OK if you weren't paying $325 for the night, for which I expect a lot better.

The spa bath is nice and big but when we filled it the water was brown. I wished I had brought my own toiletries when we found only cheap motel-like soap and just one tiny bottle of shampoo and bath salts.

Then there's the breakfast - which was a platter of bacon and eggs etc. I was told over the phone that we'd receive hot bread and fresh juice to the room - we did get hot bread but the juice was a caraffe filled with long life juice - not fresh in my opinion and not something that I'd consider '5 star'.

I was told on booking that the room was 'really nice' - I'd disagree with this, nice is the last word that I'd use to describe it.

There was an open fireplace which was nice, however this is the only source of heating and it was not really emitting enough heat to reach the bedroom. When we woke up in the morning the fire was out and the whole cottage was freezing - its really cold up on the mountain and a heater would have been nice.

All in all I left there wishing I hadn't wasted $325 on this place as the price tag definitely did not match the room.

As owners who place great emphasis on the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, it is distressing to read such a report, knowing that these particular guests did not enjoy their stay. It is true that the ambience of most of our cottage accommodation is old world in character. The furnishings have been purpose bought to help create this. Our websites show fairly accurately what the style of each cottage is. If you prefer modern, then this cottage would definitely not appeal to you. In so saying, our other website devoted to The Castle on Tamborine shows that these facilities are extremely modern. We have tried to appeal to most tastes. However, we always welcome & listen to comments made by our guests, and where ever possible will make the necessary changes to improve our accommodation and services.

Our stay at 'the Castle' was simply an amazing getaway perfect for couples of any age. The room had everything you could imagine and more. Very large bedroom with a beautiful four post bed, large bathroom with a double shower and spa bath. A large balcony flows off the back of the bedroom and over looks the great outdoors. Piped music of your choice fills the entire suite along with a state of the art audio visual system in the living room. Sporting a projector screen TV with movies of your choice available at the front desk. There is also a fire place in the living room and Air-conditioning/heat on both floors. The kitchen has full functionality with a lovely dining table in it. Right off the living room via concertina French doors you have your own private indoor swimming pool with waterfall. A quaint private courtyard is just off the back of the suite with gardens and a water fountain. The grounds and other cottages on the site are just beautiful, and if there were other guests there during our stay, we didn't know it. Above all, the hospitality of the owner, Cheryl, was outstanding. She and her staff were most accommodating and lovely to meet, and the breakfast delivered in the morning was delicious! One evening, we didn't feel like going out for dinner and the lovely restaurant 'Belvedere on Main' on the mountain delivered a beautiful dinner so thanks to them as well. The only thing that we didn't have time to do was indulge in the spa services available so we will have to go back for the full experience. Thank you Cheryl and staff for a most memorable stay in your castle and for making us feel like royalty!

Absolutey fabulous. The setting was magic & we had a wonderful stay over two days. Believe me one night isn't enough! Undisturbed in a magical setting & we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is our intention to experience the other themes.

From the moment it was booked and the phone conversation with the owner you feel like they are really willing to do whatever they can to make your stay really great and when we arrived they not only met that expectations but took it to another level.

We stayed in "The Castle" and that is simply spectacular in what you have in that living experience from your own Projector and surround sound to a fireplace and personal 6 foot plunge pool with waterfall with fully working self contained kitchen and then you go upstairs to the four poster bed with a massive two person (two shower head with individual controls) shower, toilet and double spa bath. The bedroom opens up to a nice sized balcony with banana lounges overlooking the natural surroundings.

You can just lock yourself in and stay there the whole weekend or come and go as you please to see and do the many variety of things that you can do on the mountain including a lot of novelty shops and restaurants as well as many choices of wineries of all varieties.

Apart from the obvious luxury and quality that has gone into the accommodation it is superseded by the service that is given not only by the owners Cheryl and Nick but the staff in general where you have been programmed to accept average everywhere else they give you excellent as their standard and for me was what made the difference from being a good holiday and an excellent holiday.

My wife and I would highly recommend this as a destination for either a Romantic or Relaxation holiday or quite easily both as you are guaranteed to have a great time no matter the reason.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra than go with either "The Abbey" or "The Castle" as y...

We are extremely lucky to have a small team of excellent staff. We value them highly knowing that their input into our guests experience can make the difference between a good escape & an amazing time away. Life is so hectic for us all now, that when we do have the chance to escape, it needs to be special. We try very hard to meet that standard. We want to thank you for your comments and want you to know that they are passed on to our team.

From the moment that we arrived we just loved it. We stayed in the Tir-Na-Nog cottage,(Irish). We loved everything about it, just the right size for a cosy few days together. The open fireplace and the double spa were awesome. We also ordered a full breakfast hamper every morning and they were great. Cheryl is very helpful in lots of information around the area and couldn't do enough to make sure our visit was wonderful. Lisson Grove is very central to everything and we could have spent more time up there, from walks to visiting the many wineries and the gallery walk etc. This was our first time staying on Mount Tamborine but won't be our last.

We are pleased to let people know that recently our stay at Lisson Grove was amazing. My wife and I decided to get away for the weekend for a simple get-a-way to relax. " Wow " there are not enough words or adjectives to describe the wonder and amazement my wife and I experienced. It is everything you would expect and more, with service to match. Without the distractions of every day life, this luxury boutique resort offers the ultimate romantic escape for couples to escape and unwind. The newly established Castle is a must to experience with its genuine open Log fireplaces, double spa baths, indoor pool, Air-conditioning, projection theatre system with beautiful furnishings and lush Bath Robes. Lisson Grove will rejuvenate and refresh your mind body and sole leaving you with the sensations of an unforgettable experience. A must to stay with its gorgeous surroundings private and a perfect romantic place to stay.

Stayed for weekend Winter getaway. We were so looked after by Nick & Cheryl, there's nothing they won't do to ensure you have a great stay. Nick even rang me on mobile to make sure there was nothing else we wanted. There wasn't. The cottages are so nice, fireplace great, very comfortable bed, cosy & warm. The cottages are situated in a little village setting, garden surrounds are beautiful. We were supplied with a breakfast hamper with lots of goodies, sparkling wine which was great too when normally hotels give you the cheap yucky one. Nothing to fault. Had friends stay in Baden and The Gables which were lovely too. We will revisit. Thanks Nick & Cheryl

Room Tip: The Abbey, Gamekeepers Cottage. The Gables are somewhat smaller but so cute.
