I've been to Terrazas de la Barca twice. The setting is great, set amongst big shady trees and grassy slopes overlooking one of the prettiest beaches in Uruguay. In bad weather the trees protect you from the wind.
On the first occasion we ordered chivitos canadiense. Chivitos is a unique Uruguayan dish and the variety Canadiense means with all the trimmings. It is basically a schnitzel with ham, bacon and melted cheese on top. It comes on a bed of some salad (I'm not particularly fond of salad so I never really take note), which forms the base for a bed of chips (fries) on top of which come the schitzel, ham, bacon with a soft fried egg on top. Sure, instant heart attack food, but if you wan't to believe all the crap spewed out by dieticians, you'd never eat anything anyway!
The chivitos was not the best I've had in Uruguay, but it was certainly more than passable. This with a couple of litres of ice cold Patricia beer to wash it down - great. On a warm sunny day seated on the deck overlooking the beach and the sea. Muy tranquilo! Service was good.
On the second occasion my wife and I just popped in for a drink and a sandwich on a cool overcast day - the sandwiches weren't great, but in a setting like this we didn't really care. Their prices are average for Uruguay - but are quite a bit cheaper than ordering the same fare in Montevideo.
You don't have to eat, you can also just pop in for a cold beer. You go there for the setting and view more than anything else. We'll certainly be back next time we're in Atlantida.
I have a great photo but unfortunately the Add a photo button on Tripadvisor doen't work.
