“A beautiful country gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2007

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for a 3-night stay in October. It is truly a lovely property located in a small town about 20 miles outside of Mendoza-city. (but you are closer to wine country). The grounds are large, with a "main" house, and then outlying stone buildings. We had a huge room with a beautiful fireplace and a wet-bar. The entire property is so lovely and charming. There's a small vineyard, and there are tons of flowers, trees, palms and more. Our room faced the pool, and there was a lovely verandah with chairs (and even a hammock!) to relax in after a grueling (ha ha) day of winetasting around Mendoza. If you like period charm--the actual country house was built early in the 20th century--but the entire place has been renovated with modern appointments--this is the place for you. We absolutely loved it.

Adding to the atmosphere was the family's assortment of pets--LaNegra the cat became our best friend during the stay--and the lovely breakfast room and sitting areas in the main house. There is a small winery on the property, and the tasting room/sitting area (you can have wine and snacks there every night at 6pm) is simply stunning. We had a memorable night there, sitting by the fire, watching the rain and sharing their yummy Malbec wine.

The staff is kind and professional--our room was impeccably clean and I just can't say enough good things! The only drawback--and this wasn't a drawback for us, but could be for some--is that Finca is in kind of a remote location. But, we wanted a remote get-away, so it was perfect for us.

One recommendation--if you're touring the wineries of Mendoza, hire a driver. The wineries are very spread out and are far afield from each other, making it almost impossible to drive yourself. I recommend The Vines of Mendoza (company started by an American) to arrange all of your needs. They put together a 2-day tour for us, including a driver that was fantastic!

Finca Adalgisa is a gem among the grapes. The beautiful, cozy yet elegant hotel sits among the vineyards, amidst the tranquil and remote landscape of Lujan de Cuyo. My friend and I stayed in the main house, a big room with a newly remodeled bathroom, right off the cozy antique-laiden living and dining rooms. The staff were extremely helpful and accomodating, bending over backwards to ensure that our stay was everything we ever hoped. They helped us arrange horseback riding and paragliding excursions, made us lunch (for free) after we realized that "siesta" was happening in town and all the restaurants were closed and our stomachs were rumbling, and even helped us book our overnight bus tickets to Buenos Aires. The rooms throughout the house were warmly decorated, clean and comfortable. A delicious full breakfast is included in the nightly price, including eggs, coffee, toast with delicious jams and jellys, dried fruits and nuts, hot & cold cereals, etc. The winetasting room is chic and trendy but comfortable, with its white couches, oak tables, and strategically placed fireplaces. An outdoor patio overlooking the small vineyard would be perfect on a summer day. Highly recommended, romantic, fun, friendly, and peaceful, Finca is a fantastic find.

We enjoyed our stay at Finca Adalgisa, however felt that the staff could use a little more training, especially those serving breakfast, and a little more attention to detail in making up the room. For example, a basket of fruit was provided in the room, however, it had not been changed, and some of the fruit was spoiled. Also, candles had burned down, and were not replaced. The pool and cabana area next to the vineyard was a delightful place to relax after a day of touring. There is a winery on site, and offered a brief tour, with tasting, also a nice place to unwind, although the wine was only average.

  • Liked — the ambience around the pool
  • Disliked — the inattentive sevice in the breakfast room

I stayed at the Finca Adalgisa for 1 night at the end of my trip to Mendoza. I can vouch that all of the excellent reviews of this property are accurate...the grounds were beautiful and the room was exactly the same high quality that was pictured on the website. However, the best part of my stay was the excellent customer service from the time I checked in to the time I arrived home in LA and realized I lost a valuable pendant somewhere in Argentina. When I arrived home I saw that I had received an e-mail from Adrián @ the Finca that they found my pendant in the room and would try to figure out how to send it back to me (customs issues and other mailing issues made just putting it in the mail to be an impossible proposition). After e-mailing back and forth a few times, he notified me that his cousin was visiting the property and she graciously took it upon herself to bring the pendant back to California with her when she came back to the States. She then sent the pendant to my home via FedEx and it arrived safely. This is a wonderful example of "above and beyond" customer service that I rarely receive from any hotel/B&B when I travel. I highly recommend staying here.

This is a gorgeous location and offers a very different experience for savvy travelers used to larger, more luxurious hotels. It was quite something to have the run of a small vineyard (complete with friendly family pets that try to get in your room at night and sleep on your bed) and a very romantic, 'Architectural Digest' style on-site tasting room. The Finca attracts tourist couples from around the world, mainly middle-aged, and offers a very quiet, relaxing getaway in the heart of winery country only a quick taxi ride from central Mendoza. Staff are young and helpful and will happily arrange any tours for you.

Having said that, we felt the accommodation needs a little work for the price. Our room , # 23 in the new buildings by the pool, was on two levels. To our surprise, the bedroom was upstairs, accessed by a rickety little stair that is definitely somewhat dangerous when you're negotiating your way to the downstairs bathroom in the dark, especially after a night drinking wine! In fact after a couple of nights, the rustic charm we really appreciated on first sight, translated into a distinct lack of comfort. The bed was hard and smaller than a N. American queen size, there were a couple of nails sticking out of the floor that even after we asked, were not hammered down during our stay, the typical wooden furniture was uncomfortable and the lighting throughout extremely minimal. As a result, we never did use the spacious downstairs room, which was rather a pity.

On the plus side, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting poolside at day's end and received very attentive service from the young women working in the tasting room. I disagree with those who complain that the pool is dirty. A few leaves and dead bugs is pretty normal in this part of the world! We really appreciated the complimentary bottled water, tea and fruit and were delighted when staff arranged for breakfast items to be delivered to our room the night before we had to leave on an early flight to BA.

Finca Adalgisa is ideal for a honeymoon or for couples travelling together who appreciate sitting out at night and sharing a bottle of wine or two in candlelit common areas. Not so much for those of us who are on the go for several weeks and just want to settle down quietly after dinner with a good book.

Simply said...everything was perfect at the Finca. The staff treat you as family. The accommodations are superb. The advice and warmth of all who are lucky enough to share in the Finca experience is something, we will never forget!
