“Clean and Cheap in Isla Verde”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I was in Isla Verde to enjoy the beach and experience a little slice of Puerto Rico. I wasn't really interested in staying in a five star hotel. I didn't plan on doing anything but sleeping in my room. The Borinquen is a clean and convenient alternative to paying hundreds of dollars per night for something that you're really not going to spend that much time in. It's not far from the airport. It's next door to all the major plush resorts. It's a few steps from a beautiful beach. The a/c can really chill the room down and the beds are comfortable. It's also across the street from all the fast food establishments if you're interested in that. It's also near some very nice restarants.

We stayed here because our flights home were unexpectedly canceled, and we needed to stay somewhere cheap and near the airport. This basically accomplished that. The motel was very clean and well kept. The room had cable tv and free wireless internet. Other than that, there weren't any special amenities. The hotel was a bit noisy, due to the metal gate at the front desk clanging shut, and hearing the showers of our neighbors through the thin walls, but it didn't bother us too much. The hotel is less than a minute's walk from a bunch of fast food restaurants, and a couple of minutes walk to a Walgreens and to the beach. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful.

Overall, this is a great place to stay if you just want a super cheap, no thrills hotel that's close to the beach and the airport.

Room Tip: I think there are only about 12 rooms, so you don't have much choice. If you want a quiet room...

I traveled to San Juan during Hurricane Issac. Although I was nervous I began to enjoy my trip minutes sfter I arrived. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very nice. The loaction is great. The beach is behind the hotel and the clube are across the street. There is a 24hr Walgreens across the street as well along with several resturants. There is a car rental place across the street. We rented a car for one day ($41.00) to go to El Yuke National Rain Forest, and took the bus ($1.50 roundtrip) to visit Old San Juan. The ONLY thing I did not like was wifi did not work in my room (105), so I had to go to the lobby to connect to the internet.

We stayed here on our last night in Puerto Rico before acting an early flight home the next morning. Chose this place because it was cheap and close to the airport (all we needed at that point was a place to sleep for the night before heading to the airport). We really weren't expecting much, based on the fact that room rates were half (or less) the rates of other hotels in the neighborhood.

We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and clean, spacious room.

Room Tip: Warning: rooms facing the busy street out front are subject to street noise all night long.

Motel style little hotel with a free parking. only 1 minute on foot from the beach. Rooms are clean and not too bad. The receptionist was really nice and helpfull. There is a kitchen that guests can use to cook their food as well as a big fridge. Nothing fancy but a perfect option if you don't want to stay in the over-priced hotels in Isla Verde. We paid around 85$ (taxes incl.) for 2 people. I would definitely return there.

This is a place which is relatively basic and has no swimming pool, phones in the room, private safes or bathtubs. BUT, it is two minutes to a beautiful beach, convenient to restaurants (walking distance), close to the airport, has a communal kitchen and is safe and clean.

Room Tip: Make sure you bring your own shampoo and conditioner. It is not provided. I had a room in the back...
