Booked flight and hotel thru overstock.com, got really great price: $1610 for 5 nights, 6 days. We flew American Airline from JFK--that was horrible, 5 hours delay and very rude folks. The hotel was very nice, staff were very professional and helpful. Doorman everywhere...we were greeted with smiles everytime we walked through the door way. We were offered a great deal to upgrade (we have priority club rewards) to ambassador status for $150 (initial, $100 per year) which changed our room to an ocean view room (one class upgrade), fruit plate and water, free movie, late check out (4pm, usually costs $75) plus more stuff coming in the mail (e.g. coupons). It also gives you a free weekend night to stay at an Intercontinental Hotel anywhere in the world once a year. The pool is one of the better ones compared to the other resorts that we checked out while touring PR. The resort also houses a decent gym (needs some upgrades of equipment) spa and jacuzzi. There was an avis right on spot and the lady was very friendly and helpful (but book early, cars go fast! bur recommed going to a local rental car service like Target, better rates). The view from the room was amazing but the room itself needed some upgrades. The furniture was a bit outdated and the room had a musty odor. The room came with a safe and refrig big enough to put in extra groceries if you wanted to. The location of the resort was excellent...right in the middle of Isla Verde Ave, close to local and fast food restaurants and a supermarket so you can save some $ as well. We recommend Mi Casita and Metropol (both within walking distance) for local cuisine. The clientele was very mixed (racially and economically). However, don't know if it was the dates or due to a promotion but there were some ghetto fab guests (e.g. wearing pants and shorts down their butts while showing their underware) throughout our stay. For about two days, our next door neighboors were very loud. But generally it was a very pleasant stay. We strongly recommended.

I am staying at the Intercontinental as I am writing this...the beach and pool area are very nice, I reiterate, very nice!
My room is very nice, overlooking the pool...no complaints there...

However, this hotel charges 7dollars for a small box of cereal, 10 -12 dollars for drinks that I think are weak, 3 dollar bottles of water and 3 dollar cups of coffee...

One of the hotel restaurants, Ciao Mediterrean, got a good write up by Frommers. This write up must be outdated! The restaurant is on the beach, which is nice, but the food is gross bar food and pricey. The 3 of us had nachos, a few drinks, a couple of sandwiches and quesadillas for 140 dollars! The manager has an attitude but our waitress was very nice.

This hotel is directly next door to the El San Juan hotel and we had breakfast across the street at a strip mall everyday. The 3 of us had breakfast for 13 including tip. I am not cheap, but I just do not like being taken advantage of, which I felt I was at the hotel.

As mentioned, the pool area(which would not let us bring our own drinks and wants us to buy their overpriced drinks) and the private beach are very nice. I just felt like I was getting soaked everytime I turned around!

My Husband and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Intercontinental Hotel. I have been going to Puerto Rico all of my life and have stayed through various changes of brand at the location of the Intercontinental Hotel. I have always had great service and the decor of the public areas of the hotel and the rooms were always in great shape. The Intercontinental continues to provide great service and I felt that the grounds were kept up very well. The beach is gorgeous and clean and so is the pool area. The location is great as the hotel is surrounded by many other resorts, restaurants and shops that are all in walking distance. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant so I cannot comment on that, but there are several great little local places nearby. There is a great place for breakfast or lunch called Piu Bella. It is probably a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and the prices are very reasonable. For dinner I would highly recommend the Metropol restaurant. The cuisine is Cuban/Puerto Rican and is definitely a place you do not want to miss.

Me and my new hubby came here for our honeymoon just last week!! We had a great time,,, after reading recent reviews I was very nervous about what to expect.. But the hotel was nice pleasant workers esp concierge,, And I believe it was Fernando at the front desk that gave us a FREE ocean view upgrade for our honeymoon, which saved us $80 a night!! The pool was nice, the food was good at the cafe/bar outside,, try a cuban sandwich, Its pricey so we only are there twice. The drinks are pricey also. To eat outside the hotel there are local fast food places and small eateries just across the street., Try Mi Casita across the street for PR food, my husband is PR and he loved it.

Parking- we did the self park a lot cheaper than valet and the parking lot is right across the small road, (be careful ppl arent to worried about practically running over the tourists and the cross walk). Casino is small, next door and the El San Juan is a bit bigger. They seemed to have DJ's at their pool in the evening myay try that hotel next time.

The hotel will give you directions to the rainforest, The largest mall in the Carribean, the bacardi factory and Old San Juan (we had a rental car) The direction arent very exact , need more of exits and landmarks to get you some places. the rainforest is nice but go early the trails are apart from each other and you need to drive up the mountian to them. But there is no big park sign like you would think to find it.. its right up a small Pr town street that you may pass right up, but dont worry youre going the right way. Its just a little diff then what you would look for at home. Also things close at 6pm, the rainforest, shops of Old San Juan, the forts in Old San Juan, the bacrardi factory,, (watch that exit also). So go early if you can, I spent my morning sun bathing and swimming. The ocean is beautiful!!! Also try Lupis to the left of the hotel its a mexican rest with some Pr flare to it. They have burgers also , cute bar and restaurant. We ate at Ruth Chris steak house at the hotel, its expensive but the steak was awesome!! Ive never had steak without steak sauce. But its about $30-50 a steak and all sides and salads are extra so be prepared.

This hotel is literally a few miles from the hotel it took us 6 mins to get there and back for our flight- car rental was also so simple if you decide to do that. But driving is CRAZY!!!!! It seems theres no organization at ALL and the highways get very backed up so if youre rushing somewhere give yourself time to get there. They dont use turn signals and will cut you off like its nothing so watch ALL LANES while you drive!!

Have fun, I wish I could have stayed longer!!!!

A very beautiful hotel.. the rooms were very clean and the staff was so nice and helpful. The resturants in the hotel are delicious yet a little pricey. The beach is very clean, i had the best time taking in the sun and swimming in the ocean.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would love to go back! The only bad thing i can say about my whole experience is be specfic when ordering room service, they tend to mix up orders. So all in all its one of the bet!
