My husband and I stayed at the Intercontinental in San Juan for a weekend getaway in mid-September. We paid about $120 per night and was impressed with the hotel, staff, and service. The room faced the street and was not very large, but we didn't stay in the room much so it didn't matter. The meal at Ruth's Chris was delicious, the pool was beautiful, and although my French Toast from Room Service was not hot, it was very good.
The only problem arose when workmen began repairing something, somewhere, banging on whatever they were fixing, at 7:30am. I called the front desk and the banging stopped with 5 minutes of the call (and five minutes is probably much longer than it really took). I was promptly brought pillows when I requested them and the concierge was very helpful when advising us of activities during our very short stay, including taking into account that I was 6 months pregnant and couldn't participate in certain activities.
The hotel was perfect - close to the beach, airport, and a not-so-short bus ride through a rough part of San Juan to Old San Juan. That didn't bother me much - I'm from Chicago - however, others might want to bypass the bus and go with a cab, especially at night. Oh, and I won $100 from a $1.00 bet at the slots in the casino, which featured a non-smoking section that was kept that way by security guards. We will definitely return to the Intercontinental San Juan.
