My husband and I travelled to Puerto Rico for our honeymoon. During our stay we ate at Il Mulino in the hotel. It was a tiny, glassed-in structure adjacent to the casino. Knowing we were honeymooners, the staff had adorned our table with red rose petals. We were congratulated in three languages and offered a delectable wedge of Parmesan cheese, provided with a delicious antipasi platter, and one of our waiters provided recommendations from the vast menu. My husband had a caesar salad which he raved about and the special, a fresh capellini dish with a sausage tomato sauce, pungent and adored. I had penne rigate with domes of creamy ricotta melting into the heady spicy-sweet tomato sauce. The focaccia, garlic bread, and appetizers were delightful and fresh. THe service was so attentive that our salad forks were removed upon completion of that course and the tablecloth cleaned with a gold scraping tool, leaving us with pristine white cloth and fresh silverware. We giggled about this, as though our sensibilities were so delicate that we would be offended by our own used forks, but really it was this dedication to absolute perfection that elevated the already delicious meal into the pantheon of the unforgettable. The waitstaff took photos of us with our digital camera and even apologized for the rain earlier in the day, hoping it did not diminish our enjoyment of the island and resort. They were truly determined to make our stay the best possible. The complimentary dessert sampler included a rustic Italian cheesecake with fresh berries which was superb. We highly recommend this restaurant. FYI It was not as expensive as we thought it would be based upon the quality of the service and food. THe overall experience was a terrific value, in fact.
