I'm home, regaining my composure after the adventure of a lifetime. Traveling with four women, we chose Palmas for the great beach access and prime location, little did we know we had chosen paradise. Booking was a breeze with the warm and genuine staff through the Oceano management company. When we arrived it was late, yet I was immediately impressed with the pristine, lush landscape welcoming us to Palmas. Lit trails intertwined in front of the breathtaking Caribbean backdrop. We fell into a restful sleep listening to the sounds of ocean waves crashing into the sand just steps below our balcony.
The luxury condo warmly greeted us with a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. It boasted modern Caribbean beach decor complete with tile floors, inviting overstuffed furniture and pale pineapple washed walls. The fully stocked kitchen contained high end utensils and gadgetry making it an easy choice to stay in and cook. One evening, we enjoyed chocolate fondue, sitting on the wrap around porch listening to the tropical birds sing.
Palmas is located in the quaint old town of Humacao, yet feels like it's own village. Everything we needed and wanted (groceries, shopping, incredible boutique restaurants, nightlife) was literally on site! We hit the blackjack table, and lady luck was smiling down on us! The dealers were enjoyable, and we shared laughs into the early morning. We met some of the handsome men who work and play at Palmas... I'll save that story for my private journal. We didn't get to enjoy the marina, tennis club, or golf course, but they all looked breathtakingly beautiful. A new friend told me golfing at Palmas is both exhilarating and frustrating with the challenges awaiting on a world class golf course.
We left Palmas for several day trips. Salsa dancing in Old San Juan at "El Azador" was... hot. Moving to the rhythm with a stranger who is more than eager to teach can only be described as a sensual pleasure, rocking ones hips in a way typically reserved for the bedroom. In Puerto Rico, you can't help but let your insecurities and inhibitions go, there's just something in the air, and everything exudes sexuality. Maybe it was the way my hair was wild with the jungle humidity or that my skirts were a little shorter than what I feel comfortable wearing at home.
Biokayaking in the full moon (just a quick 12 minute drive) was life altering! To experience something found only at a few remote places in the world was truly amazing. We also zip lined over the rain forest and hiked one morning, tasting succulent untouched mangos and grapefruit before we took a dip in the waterfalls at El Yuque rain forest.
Beauty abounds, and peace surrounds you in Puerto Rico and especially Palmas Del Mar. Whether flirting with a stranger, soul to soul chatting with my girlfriends at the pool late into the evening, or spending the day sunbathing at our private beach at Palmas, each day was more and more divine. I recommend Palmas to anyone wanting to get their wanderlust on, and skip the tourist trap hotels of the San Juan area. Palmas allowed me to completely relax while feeling pampered with plenty of soft island breezes, sunshine and oh my god, the cocktails! Finding a place this amazing overwhelmed me with gratitude, also reminded me a bit of crossing the street as a child, required to look both ways, so that one doesn't miss something. Palmas del Mar is paradise. As we soaked up the last two days of our vacation, we didn't leave Palmas. Even with the endless opportunities surrounding you in Puerto Rico, we found our hearts keeping us at Palmas and needed nothing more.
All rooms well appointed from what I could tell. I recommend Crescent Beach, just perfect.
