This is my second review for this resort. As I mentioned in my previous review, we loved Luperon Beach Resort so much the first time that we decided to get married there in January of 2011, and indeed we did!
LBP was everything we remembered it to be from our holiday the year before. Wonderful friendly staff, beautiful grounds, great food...we had 14 guests with us for the wedding, and all agreed we had chosen a wonderful venue. A fabulous time was had by all! Our whole party was upgraded to junior suites because we were a wedding party. A few of our guests had minor complaints with their rooms but those were quickly rectified. Our room in particular was stunning - block 19, 3rd floor ocean view - what I wouldn't give to wake up there every day!
Astrid did an amazing job of co-ordinating everything, not only for the wedding - when my Matron if Honour realised she had mistakenly left some crucial prescriptions behind, Astrid was all over it, and replacements arrived from Puerto Plata the next morning! We did not have to worry about a single detail, and everything was perfect and just as we had hoped it would be! For the ceremony, a lovely arch of balloons (in our chosen colours) was set up on the beach, and we were married by a local officiant, barefoot in the sand, followed by a champagne toast. A dinner was set up for us in the buffet restaurant that evening, and while it was in the main restaurant, it was in a secluded area on the second floor, decorated again with the balloons. The wedding cake they provided was delicious! All the staff took great care of us and made us feel like VIP's for the whole trip! Especially Astrid - can't thank her enough!
The next day our whole party visited the town of Luperon for some shopping ("Junior" showed us around and interpreted in the shops when needed) and a lengthy visit to one of our favourite places in a tiny corner of the world, Captain Steve's. We had a fabulous lunch there (again) for a VERY good price!
The day following, some of us went on the Catamaran tour, with sailing, snorkelling, and a visit to Cambiaso village, complete with lobster lunch on the beach. GREAT price and what an amazing day - so much fun!
I could mention so many more positive things about our trips to Luperon, but I suppose it doesn't matter now...the resort has closed indefinitely. Since my husband and I wanted to return for our upcoming anniversary, we have chosen to book at the Grand Ambar by Lifestyle in Puerto Plata (on recommendation of Captain Steve who we still keep in touch with) and while it looks nice, no place could ever replace Luperon in our hearts - we have made so many great memories there! We will be visiting the town of Luperon while we are nearby in Puerto Plata, but I wish we were staying at LBR so we could do so more often. If they do re-open the resort in the future, we will be first in line to book.
Thank you to all the staff at LBR for being so kind to us, for always making us feel welcome, for being a part of our wonderful memories, and best of luck in whatever you are doing now. I will NEVER understand some of the bad reviews this resort received - you are ALL in our hearts forever!
