“An Interesting Place for an Iranian!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2010

The money you spend on traveling to Kish Island in a specific period of time is euqual to your expeses when you travel to Dubai with same travel duration but you can have much more freedom and fun in Dubai , but for an iranian traveling to Kish Once or twice is a must do thing! because it is very different from other places of country and it is slightly more free ... after experiencing it you have to go to dubai instead because everything on Kish is avalable on Dubai with a much better quality! ...

I traveled to Kish for the first time with a friend and we had alot of fun specially doing water sports such as Parasailing ! ...

The main inhabitants of Island are not many but majority of population are from different cities of Iran speciall Bandar Abbas and Shiraz and Tehran ... there is always tourists from foreigner countries ...

Dont do Shopping on Kish Island , all Brands are fake and nothing is original

“Very Fun City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2010

I have been to this Island 3 times and these three trips have been amongst the best travels i've ever had. Having fun in Kish depends on what u expect of your trip. For Iranians, it's alwayse a great experience, and it never gets tiring. But if you are not Iranian, it depends... This is because in Iran, women have to wear scarves and the clothes should fairly cover the body, and dancing and alchoholic drinks are forbidden. But there are many ways to enjoy a vacation in Kish:
In Kish, there are excellent restraunts, mostly with live music. everyone attempts to do dancing moves at their tables, but they can't actually get up and dance and it's hilarious :D
There are beaches for swimming, the ladies beach is seperated and without views for men; but the main beaches where the men swim aren't forbidden for women, the women just can't take their clothes off... there are water pipes and soft drinks offered around the beach at the harbour. the harbour is a very fun place to go. with open air restraunts around it. you can rent a bike and go around a very big track, it's a lovely ride especially if you are with friends, it costs about 1-2 dollars to rent a bike for an hour.
electrical motorcycles can also be rented if you think the weather is too hot for a bicycle ride. though the bike ride culd never get u tired because the ground is comletey at level (meaning that u never have an upward or downward ride, and u sort of fell downward going either way :D).
visiting in the summer means concerts every night. low prices for the concerts, with an extremely fun crowd, a little bit breaking the no-dancing law :D, but not too much. The concert is a fun experience.
there are jet ski options, boat trips, prvate boats, and lots more to be experienced. In kish, taxi fares are very low compared to other beach resorts around the world. u can get ANYWHERE in the city by just sitting in a taxi and paying 1-2 dollars. at least it has been like this for years now, (August 2010), but you never know about the future...
If u visit in summer, it completely depends on your luck how hot the weather is. the 3 times i went, they were all in the same moth, but different years, and we experienced very different climates! if you're lucky, u can be outdoors from 7 pm and after, and before that u should spend your time in the Malls, but if your not lucky, u might have have to spend all your time indoors. but there are soooo many indoor activities to enjoy.
the best time to visit is March/April/May, october/november

“Kish Island - A great place to meet friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2009

I'd really love to visit mainland Iran, but as an American citizen, it would be difficult to obtain a visa without hiring a "government approved tour-guide" to be with us all the time with an itinerary that is pre-determined and cannot be changed. So, the next best thing is to visit KISH ISLAND which is a free trade zone of Iran. It's just south of the mainland - close enough for me, for now at least. We purchased the ticket on Kish Air from a travel agency in Dubai. We obtained a visa for Kish on arrival to the island. But as American citizens we were fingerprinted and questioned. Women must don their head scarfs and "coats" or long tunics covering their arms and bottoms - best donned before deplaning.

We knew Kish would be a tourist destination for Iranians and we are not "touristy" travelers so we like to visit locations on their "off" seasons. Kish's off season, I guess, is the sweltering summer months. The temps were 110 and 115, not too terrible if you can remain inside for the hottest parts of the day. The only thing that made it worse was having to wear the head scarf and manteau or coat in that heat. I'll visit again, but maybe not the hot summer months.

We met friends there from mainland Iran and they showed us the island, the "night life" and the great food places. The best part of the trip was hanging out with my Iranian friends and eating good food. A few evenings we had dinners out where live music was played and star-like singers sung.

Don't miss the Greek Ship at sunset, it is quite beautiful. We loved eating Gormeh Subzi and Aab Goghst and Kabobs. The malls were fun to walk around and explore. Other interesting places to see were the ancient city of Harireh near the sea and the underground "city" Kariz-e-Kish the subterranean aqueduct, 17 meters underground with 3000 meters of tunnels. There is a restaurant down there as well, the temps stay 22 to 25 C it's quite amazing. You can rent a jetski or have someone run you around in a speed boat at the Marjan Beach Park. We discovered a 'foreigners beach' where we could all swim together - of course, fully covered. Otherwise there is ladies only and men only beaches.

I did like the shopping and some good deals were to be had! The sad thing is that there wasn't anything from Iran to bring home as all the stores cater to vacationing Iranians and sell things from abroad.

I recommend a trip here from Dubai for the adventurous in heart.
